We've been using Profitwell for a few months now and it's firmly become our go-to platform for understanding our user behaviour and its impacts on subscription revenue. Highlights are the upgrade/downgrade updates, MRR reporting and insights into churning users.

The dashboards and reporting are superb. So well designed, and impart a lot of information in the most effective way possible. Saves a LOT of time trying to calculate important SaaS metrics such as ARPU and LTV etc.

We recently implemented their 'Retention' tool, and love how that gives us another perspective into customer activity - especially being able to spot trends with subscribers with low/no activity for a while so we can try to head off potential churn before it happens. Going one step further to show then trend of each contributor of the waterfall (growth rate detail, retention rates) is very helpful at giving a broader perspective for how the business is doing. It only provides a directional number rather than an exact number. There are nuances to our business that make it difficult for profitwell to at a real time spit out the live ARR number. The biggest issue comes when we use promotions to incentivize our customers. We have not gotten to that level of detail with profitwell to regulate those month by month changes. The other main issue involves credits, which can somethimes show as a deactivation and reactivation. This shouldn't impact ARR Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Of all the tools we've reviewed, profitwell was the most accurate (we looked at baremetrics, profitwell, even Stripe's own dashboard). After manually calculating our MRR, profitwell was the closest.

Some of the reports and views are counter intuitive (overall UX is "OK"). You can not export information by a time period (it always seem to pull entire history). Also, they seem to prefer slack integrations over email, and just from a focus standpoint, I prefer email :) They oversell some of their paid add ons, and they don't work as expected (the revenue recognition tool specifically didn't provide the value we thought it would). Immediately easy to view important metrics. I now have complete visibility into my growth and my churn. Originally, I would try to compile these metrics at the end of every month. I have tried about 4 tools prior to this one. There are tools out there that provide more data points, but they were so useless. I want to know how many subs I have, my MRR and churn. Takes 2 seconds to figure this out on ProfitWell.

Not sure why or how they aren't charging for this product, but I exclusively use this now and barely log into Stripe now, haha.
