You also need some technical know-how to take advantage of the more advanced features and use them effectively. **What problems is PowerSchool Schoology Learning solving and how is that benefiting you?** PowerSchool / Schoology is our current LMS. It integrates with our SIS to sync in-progress grades with final grades, transcripts, and related records. For us, it helps bridge the gap between having a separate LMS and a grading portal, and then needing to sync all of that somewhere else. ### 2. As a PowerSchool district, the integration between PowerSchool products, such as Curriculum and Instruction (Chalk) for lesson pacing. We also utilize Professional Learning which makes it very easy to provide online professional development that utilizes Schoology for content delivery while tracking Act 48 hours for professional staff in Professional Learning. **What do you dislike about PowerSchool Schoology Learning?** Our secondary division (grades 6 through 12) are coming from the Canvas LMS platform and have had some frustration around the quiz features in Schoology. It would be great if Schoology would offer the ability to set up quizzes and assessments utilizing rules that would randomly create advanced math questions for each student. **What problems is PowerSchool Schoology Learning solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our district was using Google Classroom at the elementary level and Canvas at the secondary level. Our elementary teachers found Canvas to be a bit complex for them, and Google Classroom was not an option for a robust Learning Management System (LMS). The decision was made to transition to Schoology for uniformity across all grade levels for ease of use for all stakeholders, especially parents with students at both the elementary and secondary levels. The ability to connect Schoology to Professional Learning also allowed the ability to provide quality asynchronous professional development. Schoology Groups has also allowed our curricular departments to create and share course content through resources that teachers could easily pull into their Schoology courses. ### 3. Teachers can provide lesson resources and lesson activities in an organized manner. Students can access these resources at all times and it is very easy for the teachers to upload, organize, and save everything. As a teacher I use it at least weekly for my classes especially for longer assignments or providing additional resources for students. We also use it for professional support. My school district uses it to share the curriculum resources (daily lessons, assessment blueprints, year and unit plans, etc) with all the teachers. There's even a separate 'Groups' section for clubs or other activities that aren't classes. Schoology also integrates with Powerschool, making it easier for teachers to put in grades. It has Calendar and Agenda features that allow you to manage upcoming work. There's also a plethora of notification settings that can be modified separately on a class-by-class basis. There's even a built-in messaging system to allow students and teachers to communicate. Schoology includes integration with a lot of services, and it is very versatile, often having students not even needing to leave the site to complete tasks like Google Docs. It can save assessments for you, so when you have to take a break, you can go back in and not have to reanswer questions. **What do you dislike about PowerSchool Schoology Learning?** One of the features that I think could use some improvement is the Agenda and Calendar's assignment views. Currently, there's no way to see if you have completed an assignment without clicking on it, and as a student, it can be hard to remember what you have and have turned in, so it would be nice to maybe have a checkbox next to assignments to make it easier to see which ones are complete. It is very helpful in the sense that it provides all the needed materials for the teachers. Very helpful to teachers since all materials are readily available on the website. In this time of having a pandemic and everything is going online, we should go or use an application where we can utilize every material. As an educator, it is very helpful for us like this application, where resources can be used and utilized in the learning process. Schoology has a simple and easy-to-use interface - it's easy to organize your classroom in a way that makes sense for the particular class you are teaching. It is very easy to create dynamic multi-media instructions in simple discussion forums or assignments - many of our faculty found the process of creating learning activities simple to use. Communication was a strong point - announcement features were well suited to daily reminders, update videos, quick polls, and other features that are of incredible value in the classroom. Teachers in this new normal must try to take into consideration those applications that would help us deliver lessons effectively and efficiently. It is not enough that we use online tools, we have to devise ways and be creative in the teaching-learning process. Schoology gives us the idea that everything can be prepared online and be a help to everyone. I think school organizations should consider using Schoology for the betterment of their school. It is very useful since one of the struggles of the teachers is the deliverables. Schoology is very helpful. Schoology is great when you are managing individual courses, but for our fully online and blended programming, it lacked the back-end administrator capabilities to be scaling up well - the lack of a template/blueprint feature was really disappointing. Third-party Integrations were few and often did not work well. As a higher education institution, we saw very little responsiveness to our needs up against K-12. Although promises were made early on, they never came to fruition. Some faculty also felt the platform looked a bit 'juvenile' for higher ed. **Recommendations to others considering PowerSchool Schoology Learning:** Please consider having Schoology in your organization. This would give great help to all members of your organization. **What problems is PowerSchool Schoology Learning solving and how is that benefiting you?** So far I don't have any problem with the learning management system. I just need to browse it more. But so far so good. Very helpful in this current time. Schoology is a big help. Settings and due dates for assessments are in two completely different places when creating them. One is in a tab in the content area, the other is in the creation "gear" menu. If both are not set correctly, your assessment will not work. Switching from one course/group to another course/group takes several steps. Not always easy to find the course/group needed. ### 22. While it can do a lot, it is also clunky to create and therefore I have honestly avoided it. We had to transfer individual folders each semester. The updates should also be able to allow centering of images. With that in mind, changes to each course are quite easy to implement. Courses are automatically archived, so one doesn't have to make that a separate step - until you want to copy the course for the next time it is taught. Links and other resources are easily added for students to see and use. Further, discussions are relatively easy to manage by highlighting a specific student's contributions, and seeing what posts are new since the last time you viewed the question(s). As a member of Schoology Champions, I do have a bias toward this system, but I have learned to work with it over the past number of years. **What do you dislike about PowerSchool Schoology Learning?** Probably the most challenging part of discussions is not being able to grade an individual post within the discussion board without the entire group seeing the comments on that student's post. For instance, if a student is required to post 5 times within the week, the teacher can't assign a grade to each post. Only a composite can be posted. Another challenge could be if a course is structured for students to contract for their grade. For instance, students must earn x number of points for an A, etc. Such open-ended grading isn't really an option on Schoology. (I discovered this with a particular class when we moved everything online for COVID-19 adaptations.) Another challenge we have faced, and some of this relates to our university, is the inability to personalize each class page. Again, that probably has more to do with school policy than weakness of Schoology, but we had more artistic license on our previous LMS. When I first used the conferencing feature, not all my students could enter the virtual classroom in my largest group of students. Since that feature did not work for my on Schoology, I switched to using Zoom. **Recommendations to others considering PowerSchool Schoology Learning:** Try it! If you use Facebook personally, you'll have no problems starting to use Schoology. **What problems is PowerSchool Schoology Learning solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our school switched to Schoology because of how many features we could add. Our university established a hub for the entire student body, allowing them to see announcements in real time. We used it this spring for online enrollment, and that worked very well. Further, the School of Education also has a hub for future teachers. This allows us to put applicable documents and handbooks in one place, saving trees and other hassles. We have experimented with the portfolio feature, but that is still a work in progress. The students have easily adapted to this LMS. While the switch was somewhat painful for the professors, some of us prefer Schoology to our previous one. ### 47. The content management Schoology has to offer is unparalleled. I am able to create and share with a huge network of users. I like the ability to preplan and create course content in a sandbox, save it to resources, and then just push it out to my students. It is easy to grade from my phone and on-the go. I can communicate with my students almost instantly in many cases. I also like the built in ability to do voice or video recording from within the LMS without a 3rd party software. I am also glad they are working to smoothly integrate 3rd party software as well. **What do you dislike about PowerSchool Schoology Learning?** I have personally had issues with SIS grade syncing and felt that the merger with Powerschool did not run smoothly. Due to outages when many switched to online learning, several of my coworkers reverted to Google Classroom for the remaineder of the school year and I was discouraged from using it by many. The UX could use some improvement and simplification, especially on the student end. Sometimes submission can take many clicks if it is from a 3rd party application. Many educators feel overwhelmed because it is so powerful. Improved 3rd party integration and UX design would make this product more appealing. **Recommendations to others considering PowerSchool Schoology Learning:** Have small group training that is hands-on. If your staff has no course design experience, it will be overwhelming. Sell it as a gift to your future self. Once the resources are created, and the course is stored, it is always there for future use. I can add and remove things from teacher-created courses and admin-created courses. It has a built-in LMS with Powerschool, so my grades sync automatically. **What do you dislike about PowerSchool Schoology Learning?** I dislike that you need an admin account to add and edit widgets or external tools. If you have the secret and consumer key, you can add almost any LMS add-on. **What problems is PowerSchool Schoology Learning solving and how is that benefiting you?** I've cut my grading time in half because of Schoology. I can edit my assignments in bulk, which helps me make sure that everything necessary is also included.
