There are a few things I really like about PowerDirector. It's a great value for the money. It does things and has features that a lot of similarly-priced editors do not. More importantly though, is that it's very easy to use. Programs like Premier are very feature rich, but can be intimidating. PowerDirector hits that sweet spot of feature-rich, lower-cost and easy to use. Finally, I take exception with subscription based models that Adobe and other software companies are using. PowerDirector 14 is great for quick assembly of videos with title screens and transitions. It is very efficient for adding chapters and creating DVD layouts. It renders very quickly using available hardware (optional) when you don't modify the video with significant edits like noise reduction or color changes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

When you force it to render video, it becomes much slower. The simple addition of a little noise reduction, or a small white balance change brings your previews to a crawl, and exporting or authoring a DVD takes a very, very long time. I prefer using Adobe Premier for cleaning up video and doing color correction to the clips, then I bring them into PowerDirector to assemble into final products.
