We like self-hosting but the self-hosted license is too restrictive. We were expecting that PostHog is free if you self-host, but it's actually a tiny part of PostHog Cloud - makes it not viable. Some small docs improvements, like the /docs/data/events page is a bit sparse. We create all the PostHog events server side, I feel like the docs on that part are a bit sparse. What we've struggled with is the implementation. It's a complex implementation, not as simple as experimentation tools more focused on marketers. But I believe it's predictable, since it's a tool more focused on developers.

Still, it gives us a lot of autonomy. And because we're using the self-hosted version, despite some missing features, we've had excellent monthly costs. (The cloud version also has reasonable costs compared to competitors.)
