What do you like best about PostGIS?

After using postgis, using any commercial database is feels like an expensive solution. Postgis has lots of users and developers. Therefore in the case of a need or problem arising, looking for a solution in a search engine returns lots of replys from different users and use case scenarios.

In daily routines, for the people like me (as a gis expert working on geospatial database and a SQL lover) , maintaining, data collecting, querying a spatial database would be easier than using any gis related desktop software. just typing the sql for desired result and BAM! What do you dislike about PostGIS?

As a new postgis user, the point i did not like is related to authentication. I have created a few users with limited grants for tables, views or other objects in database. Lets say that I have created a user with view and update rights on tables. If a new table is created after I said the rights, I expect the same rights to apply on the newly added tables or views. Recommendations to others considering PostGIS:

If anyone working with spatial data should try postgis. I get nearly the same performance as file based datasets on 3rd party software. It is not so fast on other database servers. the other commercial ones looks like big trucks that can complete big jobs. But in postgis, if you have a small dataset, u with get better performance. What problems is PostGIS solving and how is that benefiting you?

manipulating and managing spatial data is the job I do. therefore I have a few alternatives for storing and using the data. Postgis provides me faster and better performance according to its competitors. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
