"Analyst responsible for configuring & administrating Planview for our PMO department in 2010"
4/5
What do you like best about Planview Portfolios?

-customizable screens

-reporting capabilities

The ability to custom build workflow into the tool is a huge win. The tool allows teams to provide as much or as little structure to the project life cycle as they desire. The ability to build multiple tiers and structures is also a benefit and makes this tool a good solution for teams managing areas with different goals (e.g. project teams vs application support or steady state teams). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Planview Portfolios?

-performance was sometimes an issue with our instance

-project managers had a longer than expected learning curve using detailed Financial Management components

Sometimes we would run into issues with screens loading slowly or having to wait a long time for Microsoft Silver light to load/engage. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Strong tool for assisting in project management methodologies"
3.5/5
What do you like best about Planview Portfolios?

Planview is a strong tool to assist in project management methodologies, helping to store documents, manage project tasks, and control and track time spent on projects in each task of the WBS. The reporting solution out of Planview is also strong, given that the data warehouse is built and managed properly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Planview Portfolios?

There is a learning curve, as with any software, but it is less intuitive to navigate for new or unfamiliar users. If users are not fully engaged in its use for project management or they are not properly trained on the tool, it leads to constant re-training and re-work. It is not as useful of a tool if its only purpose is for time recording to projects, due to the learning curve and the functionality that is there but not utilized, adding to user confusion. "Planview - Review"
2.5/5
What do you like best about Planview Portfolios?

Not a lot. Adding resources, adjusting resources, expanding work efforts, etc.. are all fairly easy to do. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Planview Portfolios?

Reporting is very restrictive based on role assignments. I also had a huge issue a few months back using their cube feature. I was locked out of different modules that I should not have been. Customer service is also not the most responsive. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The ease in setting up a project plan and managing available resources. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Planview Review from Project Manager"
2.5/5
What do you like best about Planview Portfolios?

It organizes project activities and communicates next steps to cross-functional teams. Keeps track of PM activities and timelines, as well as approvals from business groups. Serves as document repositiory for project documents such Business Requirements, Test Plans etc. Keeps the project moving throughout the organization. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Planview Portfolios?

Difficult to learn and use. Dependent on project team to enter their updates (status, documents, approvals) to move to the next steps within the application and keep current. May not always reflect the current status if PM and project team does not enter the required information. The application is only a good and the information being entered into it. I still rely on MS Project for scheduling as i have more control of that. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Planview Portfolios?

It was easy to use, very similar to MS Project. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Planview Portfolios?

The corporate setup was not consistent with maximum of Planview. If the enterprise had not modified it so much, it would have been better adapted and utilized within the organization. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Non-intuitive UI and WBS breakdown makes no sense when exported"
1/5
What do you like best about Planview Portfolios?

Strong control over who can log time against which project Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Planview Portfolios?

Navigation within time sheet area is abysmal, default projects to add every week make it tough to add something later on if removed/new, pop-up messages should be avoided for confirmation. I don't believe any alert/reminder to log time or mobile option is available.

Export of work breakdown structure from projects is not suitable for analysis or tree navigation of any kind - not looking for MS project but something useful for offline review or even upload isn't there yet Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
