Planview Advisor is a portfolio analytics and scenario planning software solution that helps organizations model, compare, and optimize complex investment portfolios involving significant capital, technical uncertainty, and long time horizons. It is designed for organizations such as those in life sciences, biopharma, medical devices, oil and gas, automotive, and capital expenditure planning, where investment decisions carry significant financial risk and long payback periods. Advisor is used by small, specialized teams, typically 5 to 20 users, including portfolio strategy leaders, R&D portfolio directors, and portfolio analysts, rather than broad project teams. It replaces spreadsheet-based portfolio modeling with a governed, auditable analytical environment for generating business cases, running scenario comparisons, and optimizing capital and resource allocation across a pipeline of investments. Advisor integrates with Planview Portfolios and Planview AdaptiveWork, which manage project execution, while Advisor focuses on investment strategy and capital allocation decisions. Main capabilities include: • Business case generation that produces standardized valuation models, market assessments, and risk inputs so investments can be compared on a consistent basis • Long-range strategic planning that provides a multi-year view of the portfolio, including how programs map to strategic objectives and where resource or capital gaps exist • Scenario analysis that lets users compare alternative funding levels, timing decisions, and risk profiles in real time, including unlimited scenario creation and variance analysis • Portfolio and resource optimization using mathematical optimization engines, including Gurobi and CPLEX, to identify the portfolio configuration that maximizes strategic or financial return within defined constraints • Monte Carlo simulation and sensitivity analysis that model uncertainty as probability distributions rather than single-point estimates, along with benchmarking, waterfall analysis, and customizable reporting and dashboards Advisor is available in two tiers, Planview Advisor and Planview Advisor Express, and is built on a Julia-based simulation framework that supports GPU-aware computation and integrates with Excel, CSV files, and RESTful APIs for data import and export.
