When we did our review process of other platforms, this was by far the best looking. Planful is also pretty adaptable/customizable for unique use-cases that our business required **What do you dislike about Planful?** There are a few quirks around the workforce planning where you have to make a few more clicks than I would prefer to view all headcount and to make changes to individuals **What problems is Planful solving and how is that benefiting you?** Using this to speed up the timeline of our forecasting, get transactional level comparisons of actuals vs forecast, and eliminate a lot of manual report creation and distribution ### 2. It seems as though many people don't use spotlight XL EBR, which I am shocked about. **What problems is Planful solving and how is that benefiting you?** We now have one repository for all our reports. This has solved several errors we discovered from having externally-linked excel workbooks. It ensures data reporting accuracy. ### 5. We went from manual work in excel with a high margin of error to quick, adaptable, trustworthy data models that have significantly increased our forecast accuracy, while simultaneously reducing time spent on reporting, planning & forecasting. The implementation process was very smooth and only took us 6-8 weeks. Since implementation I've had no issues, haven't had to reach out to the team for assistance and the platform has never had any bugs or performance issues. Implementing Planful has allowed me to spend more time on analysis and ad-hoc projects and has drastically increased the turn-around time for forecast changes, budgeting and reporting. My favorite features are Work Force Planning as well as connection to SpotlightXL. I was initially debating between Planful and a few other vendors, but I have absolutely no regrets from choosing Planful! **What do you dislike about Planful?** I'm not a big fan of the Planful Dashboards, but as a work-around I use SpotlightXL and build customized dashboards that update with the click of a button :) **What problems is Planful solving and how is that benefiting you?** I was previously doing all reporting, budgeting & forecasting in excel with large spreadsheets linked together. This resulted in formula errors, inefficiencies., difficulty tracking forecast changes, and challenges in variance analysis. Planful has fixed all of those issues for me! My team is consistently surprised with how quick I can turn a forecast around or build out a full year budget scenario. The Work Force Planning tool accurately calculates annual salaries, benefits, CPP/EI/WSIB etc. and our models are very easy to use. ### 12. The excel like interface is intuitive for users of all abilities and experience levels. The SaaS model means the application can be fully owned and administered by FP&A or another, non-IT internal resource. The application is highly configurable whether in a parent-subsidiary model or stand-alone company environment. Planful supports local use and customization while maintaining parent company standardization, consolidation and reporting. **What do you dislike about Planful?** Would be nice to have more dynamic dashboard functionality. This is an EPM and not a data warehouse, the system does not appear to be capable of handling an infinte number of records. Workforce planning integration seems to be a challenge and probably needs improvement. **Recommendations to others considering Planful:** Requirements gathering and defining outcomes are probably the two most critical elements in EMP decisioning. It is easy to be lured by advanced solutions and various bells and whistles. To enable and use advanced functionality requires detailed definition and parsing of source data which can be a very heavy lift. Focus on achievable deliverables and what can realistically be stood up in your current environment. **What problems is Planful solving and how is that benefiting you?** We use Planful in place of native GL reporting, for EPM and FP&A. For GL reporting, the application is responsive and investigations of results and variances are straightforward. Accessibility of architecture and native as well as custom reports facilitates understanding and identifying gl issues. EPM is currently under development, although the application appears capable of advanced reporting, metrics and interaction, we are currently executing basic dashboarding with push and drill down capability. FP&A - budgeting, forecasting and monthly reporting are core strengths of the application and have robust functionality. Planful has boosted the productivity of our FP&A team 3x in that we were able to increase the number of business units each analyst could support by 3x. ### 38. Any problems big or small, Planful has members who are able to support our needs. The biggest benefit Planful provides is teaching us as the user how to first solve our own questions, and then to remedy this by helping us understand our system and be able to diagnose and resolve on our own. **What do you dislike about Planful?** In my opinion, Planful only has downsides when you don't learn the system well enough. There are so many resources at your fingertips and you can learn almost anything about the platform, however, some users struggle to learn since there needs to be a robust understanding. **What problems is Planful solving and how is that benefiting you?** Planful allows us to do all of our planning/forecasting, reporting and consolidations in one place. This allows for a much more succinct database and data flow between team members. I have used other systems that need a lot more connections and can lead to big problems of mismatching data. ### 44. Being able model using Spotlight XL saves the headache of learning a completely new platform from scratch. The ability to set custom dimensions and create custom accounts to track and house KPIs directly in the system is also useful **What do you dislike about Planful?** Workforce planning can be very manual if not directly integrated with your employee management software. Implementation is done by a third party provider so there can be a lack of continuity between ongoing support and implementation questions. **What problems is Planful solving and how is that benefiting you?** Planful has been great in keeping our planning scenarios organized. Integration with our ERP has really increased the speed of month end reporting and helps keep finance consistent on which forecst figures are used in comps. ### 45. Additionally, creating and maintaining reports and ad-hoc analysis has been a massive benefit for FP&A to adhere to last-minute requests from senior leadership and our board. It's a very low-code solution to admin, which has made it very easy to have backup administrators that also support the system and not have to worry about emergencies popping up while I'm on PTO/sick leave. The Planful Support and CSM teams are readily available and prepared to help our team utilize additional functionality in the tool to support our continuous process improvements. **What do you dislike about Planful?** There are a few minor things I dislike as a Planful administrator. There's no way to organize scenarios into a structure (or tag them as active/in-use), so the dropdown selection list for Scenario in our environment has grown extensive as FP&A isn't ready to remove some of the older monthly forecasts. It would be great if regular users could have read-only access to view dimension hierarchies and the account settings as well as translation table properties without having to export and store the files in a separate repository. **Recommendations to others considering Planful:** I'd highly recommend Planful to others still using an outdated financial planning tool with long-running, cumbersome processes. **What problems is Planful solving and how is that benefiting you?** It's saved countless hours in reliability and ease of use. If there were any issues with our previous GL load, it could take 2-3 runs (with 3+ hour processing times/run) to get problems corrected, resulting in data being delayed by 6-9+ hours. We've gained increased process efficiencies using Workforce Planning to forecast and budget headcount and costs. ### 47. That said, there is a strong self-service help database as well as support staff that always respond quickly and are willing to help us achieve what we're asking. **What problems is Planful solving and how is that benefiting you?** Automation of reporting and the ability to create dashboards in a one-stop-shop with security and permissions protocols has been very helpful for us. This allows us to set navigation permissions for our Executives, VPs, Branch Managers, and so on so they can only see what we intend them to, and greatly cuts down the amount of reports we have to manually create and send in PDF, Excel, etc. ### 48. This takes away the constant checking to see when reports have been published. I also appreciate that it is very organized, so I can clearly review reports individually or grouped. **What do you dislike about Planful?** It would be helpful to have an option (unless it exists and I'm unaware) that allows you to check which reports you want to merge into one larger file. For example: if I want to pull reports from Clinic A & C and have those merged into one file, I don't believe Planful has the capability to do so.. **What problems is Planful solving and how is that benefiting you?** Planful is allowing me to quickly access my P&L data in a very organized manner-- I appreciate being able to locate previous month's data on Planful rather than having to save it to my computer. This is especially helpful, since I travel constantly for work.
