I needed to quickly enroll ±25 people in a project management tool, and Plane did the job.

My primary concern was that most users aren't very technical, so I was looking for a solution with not too many bells and whistles, or at least a way to hide them from most users. Plane helped me with that, and a complete deployment with migration from a previous solution took less than 2 weeks.

The visual and workflow design of the entire product is familiar for those that are "techy", but not very friendly for those that are not well versed in technology. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Plane delivers a refreshingly simple and clear project management experience, making it an excellent alternative to Jira. Its minimalistic design ensures tasks are easy to categorize, track, and manage without unnecessary complexity. Our technology teams started using Plane to manage our various workloads. We have an intake helpdesk that didn't allow affordable tracking of work. We initially starting using Plane as lists and Kanban boards, but have since switched to Agile Sprints (called 'cycles' in Plane) and really like how we track and measure our work.

There are currently just a few integrations. I would like to see one with FreshService. But their API is robust, and webhooks work very well (if a bit chatty).

Plane is perfect for our small team many of whom are new to Project Management tools that didn't approach it with pre-conceived notions of how things should work.

There are a great deal many things I love about Plane but mainly the ability to quickly make checklists within a card. It is so essential as a developer in my opinion to have a plan of your task list and being able to quickly and concisely update this is without doubt one of thee most important things.

Some project management tools enforce you to create checklists by writing them out one at a time but Plane keeps it like a bulleted list. This means it takes away the clunkiness of requiring a mouse to update a tasklist which most coders that I know do not like.

Other features I really like:

The ability to quickly see different views such as table, kanban/board, timeline etc.

The ability to block issues due to another issue.

The ability to filter out updates/comments as I leave my done tasklists in the comments section and an on-going to-do tasklist in the card description.

The ability to colour text within the card description.

The ability to personalise the theme on desktop.

The fact it has a mobile app.

There are only one or two things that I think could be improved within Plane and I do not think they're dealbreakers at all:

Firstly the word issues is a bit negative and instead should be tasks ideally but apparently this is being rectified.

Secondly the hyper mode that is hidden away under the help section actually caused my counts to become very buggy, presumably due to some caching on my local browser and then showing a count higher than actual visible issues.

That is pretty much the only two pointers I have come across but I realise people will use this software in different ways.

I suppose the biggest downside to it could be the implementation within a business because if a business does not utilise the tool correctly then it will not aid them. To counter this perhaps more of a structured approach is required when creating issues or an OPTIONAL tutorial on not how to use the software but rather get the best out of Plane.
