Recommendations to others considering VMware Greenplum: 1. If you have a need for storing and retrieving huge datasets then GreenPlum is one of the best choices to make. 2. We use GreenPlum to process our entire clickstream data and are providing intelligent business solutions to 1000s of customers on a daily basis. 2. To analyze data across tables and provide meaningful insights to customers. 3. Processing a huge amount of data in less time. 4. We are trying to process the data in real-time and have tried out various POC'S to help this happen and the results were promising. 5. Greenplum is fast because of MPP architecture. Segment fail-over and recovery is very good as system automatically fails over to the mirror segment if a primary copy becomes unavailable. We do have Functions but procedures would make a lot of requirements easier to achieve. Also, I feel, the querying interface can be much better. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. Recommendations to others considering VMware Greenplum: Greenplum is a perfect database if you are looking for a robust, reliable solution with multiple parallel processing data warehouse / data lake. We had Data Lake created in Greenplum. working as a senior data engineer, we dumped data from various sources viz. oracle, sql server, csv logs to Greenplum DB. It is easily configurable with HVR tool as well. while the data could be used by data engineers for further consumption and creating functions easily, it was equally easy to work with for Data Scientists. This is the first ever database for me with Massive Parallel Processing architecture to explore, learn and work on. - Compared to my previous experience with other traditional RDBMS, Greenplum's MPP with distribution of data and processing the work load across multiple segments and hosts was quite interesting and was a great learning. - In my opinion, we dont really have to go for Big data technologies like Hadoop to deal with the big data. - Querying the database using postgresql is quite easy to use for users with basic sql knowledge Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about VMware Greenplum? We have faced some issues in the beginning 3 years ago because of the on premise commodity hardware. We have a huge historical transnational data in PB and a daily incoming load from transnational systems in GB. Greenplum is very flexible and fast because of MPP architecture. I have been working in this since 2.5 years and i would love this the most due to its Massive parallel processing Capabilities and vast functionalities. Querying the DB is very easy using Postgresql. We had a data lake setup in Greenplum for a retail project. The DB is capable of handling millions of data and follows an MPP architecture. The queries can be made using SQL and it supports integrations with API and all. To sum up it has great features. When it comes to performance I feel it lags behind Teradata very slightly. Amazingly fast due to Multiple parallel processing. 2. Multiple queries can be triggered at a time. The result will be displayed in milli seconds. 3. Queries are almost similar to Oracle.
