Pimcore is an outstanding framework for Digital Commerce. It combines content and e-commerce in a way, it’s been demanded for years, but has never actually been implemented in any framework or platform. Further, pimcore offers the functionality of a Content Management, - a Digital Asset Management (DAM), - and a Product Information Management system. In addition, pimcore provides a high-performance e-commerce framework to its partner agencies, in order to realize more ambitious Digital Commerce projects.

At first glance, the administrative backend gives the impression of pimcore to be a complete web application rather than being a framework. However, at second glance you will see, that the initially given functionality is generic. Pimcore processes any content, data and asset. Pimcore agencies will further implement the specific functionality with their clients. Pimcore is an advanced platform for innovative projects, as the recent Shop Usability Award shows. Blackbit won, with an e-commerce platform on pimcore basis, the award for "innovativster Online-Shop 2016" (most innovative Online-Shop 2016).

Hence, pimcore isn´t just innovative it is disruptive. The generic approach of pimcore as a framework means to re-implement many features that you will often find in other applications. In recent years many content management systems have started to jump ahead in terms of admin panel access. Although I am a fan of ExtJS I find that the licensing restrictions around this commercial platform come with some restrictions. It's great that Pimcore offers long term support as this is an enterprise ready product after all, but some of this long term support does limit future technology choices.
