We contacted customer service and I have the impression that even them did not know how it works. They gave us answers that do not correspond to the questions. **What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our experience with Phrase has been great. As a leader in the language services industry, we were looking for a good solution that could streamline our translation workflows. The off-the-shelf connectors and Submitter Portals are very easy to set up, providing integrations with multiple tools ad repositories. It's cloud based, so can be accessed from anywhere. The web-editor has all the basic features you'd require from a CAT tool and is very intuitive as well, so the learning curve for new users is really very short. It's also great to see that Phrase 's crew is very open to suggestions and eager to implement new features required by the customers. **What do you dislike about Phrase?** Some features are a bit limiting (like Continuous jobs analysis or the way of managing TMs in the project for each language individually), but it's good to see Phrase is open to the feedback and it's work in progress, every time we've come up with the suggestion or feature request, Phrase would take it seriously. Per word usage might be a bit limiting and hard to foresee upfront, but luckily Phrase is very flexible with the options to top it up. The LQA options can be improved. **Recommendations to others considering Phrase:** It's a great tool, if you need a cloud-based and user-friendly tool, but bear in mind the limitations it has for more complex and customized workflows setup. **What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?** We have automated integrations with our new CMS and centralized most of our localization workflows in one tool - that's the main benefit, as it provides great control and time saving. The linguists also enjoy working with it, and the acceptance is higher than with other tools. We've kept adding new workflows and repositories over the years. Customer support has been helpful when I've talked to English-speaking representatives, and have been positive about feature suggestions, helping to find workarounds when possible. Ideally we'd roll Phrase out to our whole team. The web UI works pretty fast, and features like filtering and opening multiple files at once simplify certain tasks that word processors might have difficulty with. The QA tools and termbase management are highly effective once harnessed, and save much time crossreferencing documents. **What do you dislike about Phrase?** Certain features seem essential but are not included in the cheapest package. There could be more support and explanation of features, as well as videos and pictures of how to use the less-often-used but powerful ones. The custom QA tools are effective but heavily relient on customization for each language pair, requiring you develop your own assets. The Japanese-to-English pair is only moderately supported, and some things don't quite work how you expect them to (In particular handling of non-translateables, which would benefit from some custom handling rules for this pair). Translation memories & Term bases If there are some words or phrases that you have translated before, you can just choose them from the suggestions shown on the side of the page. You don't need to translate them again. 2. QA It helps you check the quality of the translation. For instance, if the same word is translated into several versions in different places, the QA feature will notify you. 3. Workflow If many team members are working on the same project, the workflow feature is very helpful. Different members can have different roles. **What do you dislike about Phrase?** For some reason, it is sometimes difficult to log into the system due to cache issue of browser. But if you know how to solve it, it's not a big deal. Enough functions for affordable cost(rate). Also and as mentioned in the title, the screen/view is easy to see/read. Even without reading the manual, the CAT tool can be used for basic use. About the server type(system), anyone in the company can use the tool as long as they are internet-connected, without downloaded any software: this can be important since we need to ask for administration rights to our IT department for any software to download for our PC. **What do you dislike about Phrase?** Help function and instruction manual is only in English for server type. Although I understand English, it takes a little longer than Japanes, a mother tongue. So it would be helpful if the manual/help function can be selected in Japanese, too. (with the sesrver type, not the desktop type) While it is easy to see and use, I feel some kind of inconveniences in finding the function/tool I want. For example, I could know how to exchange/update the original material (target material) only after I took a Memsource seminar for Japanese users. That (at the same time) made me to think that taking the seminor is important and necessary for users. **What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?** To reduce translation time (the same/repeated words and phrases can be translated automatically) and mis-translation or translation blurs. Time deduction leads to cost reduction and reducing/avoiding translation blurs leads to translation quality (higher). Even when I don't translate by myself but outsourcing, the "analyze" fuction is quite useful and enable me to estimate the cost even roughly (ao can compare to (determine) the quotation from the outsourcing company). Especially when there is a word list or translation memory, "analyze" function of CAT tool is a must thing to estimate. If it is only counting the number of words and letters, Word function is enough, but when it comes to setting the Glossary/Memory, it is not. It’s a decent tool with all the usual CAT (computer-assisted translation) features, especially if project managers have linguists in mind when setting up a project. The visual design was recently improved. Outages happen rarely, and when they happen the company is transparent about them. Customer support was very prompt to answer when I contacted them. **What do you dislike about Phrase?** I'm not sure tools for linguists are their priority nowadays. They seem to concentrate on project management and AI. The TM search is quite inconvenient, editing is tricky when a segment includes big chunks of text rather than a single sentence (which can happen through exporting). It’s also a shame that they are deprecating their mobile app for linguists, it’s been quite a useful tool. **What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?** As a CAT tool, it makes translation faster and easier, especially if you work with large continuous texts, such as legal documents and articles. It helps me preserve consistency with previous translatons and adhere to termbases. It’s less convenient for software localization, which often requires deviating from previous translations (button vs. header, space limitations, etc.). ### 21. The Figma-integrated features where strings can be pulled and pushed from Figma to Phrase and vice-versa without manual work. Update: I like the new interface that debuted last year. Previously, it resembled Microsoft Word but it looks sleek now — especially with dark mode. Love how I can see all translations along with the source content of a key easily. The different ways to search for keys are useful (by key name, key value, or Phrase tag), though it would be nice to have a way to search for keys tagged with a certain word or Phrase without providing the exact Phrase tag. **What do you dislike about Phrase?** The screenshot feature is buggy. When I try to tag keys to a screenshot, the tool crashes at times. Also, the size of the screenshot displayed during the key-tagging area is sometimes too big and cumbersome to tag keys efficiently — I don't know why this happens many times. Sometimes it works fine. Update: the Phrase-Figma plugin works better now. Previously, it was impossible to run the plugin to pull content from multiple Figma screens to Phrase. Now, it's possible for our teams to use this plugin as our official process to update content between Figma and Phrase. Phrase does not have that. It is very clean and clear and you can practically start working on projects from Day 1. It barely has a lag with smaller projects, features are easy to find. I use Phrase on a daily basis and it is one of my favorite platforms. Fast support as well, very responsive. **What do you dislike about Phrase?** The platform seems to have a bit more difficulty handling projects with a high wordcount. It also takes quite a while for it to go through the QA proces and doesn't seem to catch every segment. I almost always have to run the QA project twice (or sometimes 3 times) for it to catch everything. My internet connection is fiber, and thus very fast. All the members of my team can work in the same project with ease. Compared to the previous tools we used to use, which were offline, it is much more convenient. **What do you dislike about Phrase?** It does not work optimally for segments with numbers. With other tools, we could confirm a segment and it would propagate to other similar segments with more precision. Also, as far as I know, the pricing model will change soon, which will make the tool less afordable for a small translation company such as the one I work for. **What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?** I work for a translation agency, and we are slowly moving towards using MT for most of our projects. Phrase has made it very easy to select an appropriate engine for each project and customize it a bit with the Glossaries. Reorganising sentences is very common while proofreading, specially in my pair DE-ES. But I have to copy and paste instead of moving the words. No back up system after 18 months. Difficult to handle a large project which has thousand jobs. It is easy to manage, and the students usually find the UI more approachable. **What do you dislike about Phrase?** The TB seems to be too simplified. While it is easy to upload and use, one cannot add information such as the entry date, fields, whether it's a preferred term or not. **What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?** One key issue is the OS: some of our students are MAC users, and having a cloud-based platform like Phrase helps me solve this problem. Most of the students are beginners, and some are not equipped with the required IT skills. With the newly-added feature to see the length of each segment, it is now better than all other platforms I've experienced. I used to check an Excel file and use plenty of copy pastes for certain projects. I no longer need it, since Phrase already indicates if a segment is over the specified limit. Another thing I love is how fast the TM loads. It is also very easy to check the TM for previous translations and keyterms. These are absolutely a must for all translating platforms. **What do you dislike about Phrase?** There are still a couple of improvements to be made. The first thing that comes to my mind is the use of tags. It is a slow process to copy and paste tags according to the word order of the target language. This needs to be tackled more creatively. The other problem I face is that I can't open multiple projects from the home screen. I need to go to projects and open them from there. I think this slows down my translating process and could be made faster by redesigning the UI. **What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?** It provides me with an online platform that can help me translate texts easily by comparing with the source text and allowing me to see previous translations for increased consistency through the integrated TM. This way, I don't need to use a local word-processing app for my translation and all process is recorded for the proofreader. ### 48. The newer interface is easy to customize and more intuitive than earlier iterations and is on par with or exceeds that of other similar tools on the market. The functionality in editor mode allows for quick and effective operations. I look forward to using Phrase TMS in future projects. **What do you dislike about Phrase?** The QA process of Phrase TMS is always the most tedious part of using the tool. Although it is possible to customize which content to check during the QA, the functionality is extremely lacking compared to similar tools, which commonly offer the ability to bulk ignore certain types of errors. Also, the use of the eye icon to represent an unresolved QA item and the eye icon with a thin diagonal line to represent an ignored item are too similar in appearance and ineffective for conducting quick spot checks. In the desktop version you can select a piece of text and drag--and-drop it in another place, in the online version you can't.
