## Phrase Reviews
  ### 1. Clear, Accessible Layout Makes the Platform Easy to Use

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Laura R. | Head of Translation Department, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 23, 2026

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

The website offers a clear, accesible layout, which makes it pleasurable to work with. It has great shortcuts for adding/deleting tags in the CAT editor. The pre-translate option is great as well.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

Spanish translation of the platform has several mistakes. Also, there are some options or elements that aren't even translated. It is quite distracting. The LQA option is rather uncomfortable to use, and the ortography mistakes that the tool spots in languages that are not English are sometimes incorrect, or sometimes not even recognized.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Phrase is helping our organization to have a clearer wordcount for each file we deliver. It also enables another path of communication with our freelance translators and shows useful information for them, which prevents our team from sending lots of inquiries via email.

**Official Response from Beth Anderson:**

> Thanks for leaving a review Laura, it's great you find the Phrase is accessible and helps your organization to have a clearer wordcount for each file you deliver. I'm sorry to hear your experience with spanish translation has mistakes and I have fed this back to the product team for review.

  ### 2. Efficient CAT Tool with Great Context Features, But Limited Format Support

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pablo M. | Freelance Translator / In-Company English Teacher, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 21, 2025

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

The ability to produce and unify glossaries. Find and replace options.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

Not integrate the preview mode by default, as it crashes the software on larger files with many strings.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Doing away with the lack of context by inserting a preview function. Easy to integrate several file formats into one project at a time.

**Official Response from Beth Anderson:**

> Thank you for leaving a review, It's great to read has great features and is a streamlined CAT tool for your use.

  ### 3. Phrase fits well for our needs, but some features lack better structure

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Larissa M. | Product Management Analyst, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 07, 2025

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

Phrase successfully separates strings and their translations, with easy management of the multiple languages required. We use it daily for new or updated translations. Customer support was agile and assertive when I needed to recover some translations I had mistakenly deleted.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

The interface for translators could benefit from better approaches. There is no way to batch upload screenshots to contextualize translators better. I'm not sure if there is a way to integrate Figma for this. Our product lacks real-time integration, and we have to upload new translations manually; however, I'm not fully aware of the explanation behind this.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Phrase removed the AI translation suggestions for our plan. For me, not having at least a small amount of it and showing how an upgrade for this could have benefits, the platform won't have the workers asking for the upgrade. This can also apply for other types of use/integration we don't even know exist or how we could plan to implement.

**Official Response from Beth Anderson:**

> Thank you for leaving a review, it's great to read you use Phrase daily and that you had a positive experience with our Customer Support team. We have a number of user guides in our help center which may help with your queries as to using the platform even further.

  ### 4. Phrase's Strict Renewal Policy is Disappointing

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 10, 2025

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

Phrase is one of the online CAD and translation management tools. It takes time to get used to the complex project interface. But once I was used to it, it became relatively easy to upload my document and start translating. They were quick to adapt various machine learning and artificial intelligence tools. But you still need to learn basics such as getting an API and finding the right place to put it. I think the translation memory and term base management features are very basic, without more cutting edge semantic alignment tools. Depends on what you are looking for really.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

For me the most annoying thing was their unexpectedly strict customer retention policy: If you are like me and you review your subscriptions at the last minute, I have some bad news for you. Phrase will charge you for the next years subscription, if you do not cancel it at least 30 days prior to the date of the renewal of your subscription. 30 days! I have been using numberless subscription services in the last decade, but this one was the most hideous. And when I wrote the Phrase team to request for a good will cancellation, they just repeated the Terms of Service and its relevant articles in their emails. I am very disappointed.

Another problem has been the very basic AI integration: In my experience current LLMs such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude usually work better than DeepL and Google Translate. At least on certain documents they are able to come up with better alternative translations or wordings. But Phrase won't allow me to use my tailored prompts for the translation. Which means I have to copy and paste between my windows which is very time consuming if you rely on AI tools rather than machine translation. And the solution they offer through Custom AI won't cut it.

Another problem is the translation memory tool which is very basic. I had some documents I translated years ago but with Phrase it is not easy to turn them into translation memories. Phrase's "align" tool is basically a sentence splitter and I found it very frustrating to use when working on long documents in particular.

Phrase is not practical for people like me who has to work on a lot of footnotes. I lost count of times when I had to go back to the translation interface to find the missing footnote. This is because the footnotes are indicated with a number in a small blue box and I tend to overlook them when I am in a translation flow. And once I complete the translation and export it, I am definitely sure that I will come across to some missing footnotes. It wasted a lot of time for me.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I only need to do written translations occasionally, such as at the end of the reporting year which tends to be very busy. That's why Phrase's three-month subscription was quite convenient for me. It allowed me to use the service for a set period and then cancel until I need it again. However, Phrase's strict renewal policy is a problem, because like me, if you forget to cancel your subscription 30 days before the renewal, you'll be charged for a full period. And for me there was no use.

  ### 5. Great overall but Need quick non-file-upload translation & text recognition

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Haruko K. | Translator/ Editor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2025

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

Light load on PC. Very easy-to-understand UI. Good functions & services, including built-in MT. Great & timely customer service.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

Always have to upload files - it'd be great if you could directly type in source texts for quick translation. It'd be even more wonderful if Phrase could recognise texts from PDF or image files.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a translator, it saves me lots of time and effort building my own term/phrase base. No need to look up/search past translation works for reference. The word/character count function is particularly useful, especially for translating Excel or PowerPoint files, as I charge my clients based on word/character counts and it saves lots of time to create invoices.

**Official Response from Beth Anderson:**

> Thank you for leaving a review, we appreciate your feedback on recognizing text from PDF or image files - I'll pass this onto the relevant team as we're always open to hearing ways to improve our platform. It's great that you find the UI easy to understand and that it saves you lots of time and effort.

  ### 6. Effortless and Efficient for Translators

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Paola S.

**Reviewed Date:** November 06, 2025

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

I appreciate how Phrase Localization Platform significantly enhances my efficiency in handling translation tasks, especially when dealing with very long documents in a limited timeframe. The platform's translation memory feature is incredibly beneficial, allowing me to avoid redundant searches by remembering previously used terms, thus saving time and ensuring precision in my work. I love the layout and user-friendly functionalities of the platform, which make navigating and utilizing its features intuitive and seamless. The ease with which I can store and retrieve my previous jobs by using savable names for memories further adds to its user-friendliness. The initial setup was straightforward, requiring just a simple registration process, which I found very convenient. Moreover, despite its considerable cost, the value provided by the features and how well it serves my translating needs makes it worth every penny.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

I find it disappointing that the automatic translation feature, which used to be free, is now a paid service.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use the Phrase Localization Platform to save time and enhance accuracy in translating long documents with its helpful translation memory feature.

  ### 7. Comprehensive Language Support, But Needs Memory Fixes

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Olga K. | Senior Manager Product Documentation, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 07, 2025

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

I love that the Phrase Localization Platform supports all languages, allowing me to localize UI strings into 50 different languages effectively. This feature greatly enhances the platform's versatility and scalability, making it incredibly valuable for projects requiring extensive linguistic coverage.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

I am frustrated that the Translation Memory in Phrase Localization Platform cannot be set to zero. There were segments added by mistake, and I am unable to revoke or remove them. This limitation makes it challenging to manage translations accurately and can lead to clutter or errors accumulating over time.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use the Phrase Localization Platform to localize UI strings into 50 languages, ensuring broad language support. However, setting Translation Memory to zero isn't possible, leading to accidental segment additions that can't be revoked.

  ### 8. Very good CAT tool, terrible AI-assisted MT engines

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 24, 2020

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

User interface is great, it is quite customisable, handles most formats

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

Massively complex settings, idiotic, poor output Ai translation engine, pricing became 1/ complicated 2/ outside the scope for independent translators

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As an individual user, it is a great TM, with a short learning curve and a well designed interface. As a project manager, settings quickly get complex for shorter project. Also, Phrase now covers so much (strings, complex formats etc) that a small user like myself feels I have to pay for a vast array of extra features that are only designed for large multilingual, enterprise-wide projects

**Official Response from Beth Anderson:**

> Thank you for your review! I'm sorry to hear you find Phrase has complex settings - if you're ever stuck on how to do something our Support team are on hand to help, as well as our help center. On the other hand, it's great to hear you think the UI is great.

  ### 9. Phrase Review

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 07, 2025

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

Setting up the project was relatively straightforward, and I found the user management features to be quite effective.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

- Absence of the desktop client for translation edit (CAT tool).
- Subscription word count limits counts also perfect matches
- Pretty expensive considering there is no desktop CAT tool included.
- Usage of customized XLIFF format makes it impossible to edit files in other CAT tools.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This is a straightforward TMS. It is easy to use and does exactly what I need without any unnecessary complications.

  ### 10. Love phrase very much.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** 和子 . | Freelance Translator, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 28, 2024

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

The more I use it, the better my translation will be. I have been using this platform for 7 years, and there has not been much trouble. There is an update from time to time, and it gets better. Takes a little while to get used to it, and it was a bit difficult to understand this platform. Overall, I love this platform, and I would love to use it for a long time.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

There should be help. AI helps to understand this platform.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It makes the translation much easier and faster. It solves cumbersome tasks of translation, and I can save time.

**Official Response from Beth Anderson:**

> Thanks for leaving a review, it's great you love Phrase so much, especially as such a long term user.

  ### 11. An intuitive CAT tool and translation management system, ideal for academic purposes

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Олена . | Assistant Professor, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 17, 2021

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

As a university teacher, I like the simplicity and integrity of the system; the students can quickly grasp the essentials of translation management, trying both sides of a translation project - the role of a linguist and that of a project manager.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

The problems are not connected with Memsource itself, but with academia being somewhat out of touch with the real translation industry tasks, challenges, and workflows. It might be difficult for beginners to simulate true-to-life working situations.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Having access to Phrase Academic Edition, our University can train the students to become professional translators. They create and complete translation projects; some of the students do volunteer translations under our supervision. The Academic Edition of the TMS offers effective solutions of translation routine; the platform's user-friendly interface allows the students to effortlessly navigate the platform and quickly learn necessary skills.

**Official Response from Brittany Nelson:**

> Thank you for your review, Olena! I'm glad to hear that your students are exploring both the Linguist and PM role in Memsource. Thank you for your note about the company size, that's very tricky with universities, but I think your answer was fine.

  ### 12. It's a convenient localization tool with extensive features

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vladyslav D. | Marketing Coordinator and Expansion Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 04, 2025

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

The interface is intuitive. Easy to collaborate and work in team. Cool automatization features. Customer Support. I'm currently working with 20 different languages, there is no tool that can help me work on these projects so quickly and conveniently as Phrase does.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

The main disadvantage is that sometimes working with large projects is problematic, often the site glitches and half of the translations are not saved, but overall my impressions are positive. Also i would like you to improve filter for segments. Some times you need to find some sort of word, but starting with a capital letter, not small letter. As the result you get all of them. I'll try to explain it to you. For example I would like to replace word "One"(capital letter!!!). If i use a filter on the word "One", I get all kind of that word. Such as "one", "One", or even "someone". Sometimes it's usefull, but sometimes not.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

By using your tools, our company saves a lot of time and money.

**Official Response from Beth Anderson:**

> Thank you for leaving a review! It's great to see you find the interface intuitive and that the Phrase platform makes it easy to collaborate and work as a team - and across 20 different languages, that's impressive! Thank you for your suggestion on improving the filtering system, I'll be sure to pass this onto our Product team, as we always welcome feedback!

  ### 13. Clear Design and Easy Use, but Translation Tools Could Improve

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 16, 2025

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

I like the clarity of design, the ease of use, and the intuitive guided project and task creation. I especially appreciate the simplicity of the editor and how all the necessary functions are easy to find and use.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

It's not a dislike, as such, but I do wish the translation memory and term base tools were more sophisticated and allowed for more metadata to be used.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

How to process, distribute, and translate client materials quickly and easily.

**Official Response from Beth Anderson:**

> Thank you for leaving a review, we're glad you find the design of Phrase clear and that it's easy to use.

  ### 14. This platform supports us in global growth

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rick P. | Translation quality specialist, Performing Arts, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 15, 2025

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

I love the fact that Phrase Localization Platform has a built in version control system that records every change made in the localization process. It allows there to be no confusion upon revisiting previous translations, and where to begin from. For this reason, this feature has proven to be key when we have to constantly update our products, because it allows us to avoid conflict translations and working as a group becomes much nicer.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

The major drawback of Phrase Localization Platform is that it lacks an intuitive error handling mechanism. The platform does provide some alerts, but they are never specific to the problem and do not provide actionable suggestions to resolve them. With translation uploads coming up errors sometimes occur, and since these errors aren’t always too obvious and thus not easy to solve, it can be frustrating the times that errors do happen when interpreting.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Without a doubt, Phrase Localization Platform has made our content localization much faster and more accurate. Handling multiple languages has been a crap shoot of a process until until now and it’s removed all of the hassle of having to manage multiple translation versions in our team. This has enabled us to reduce errors when launching products worldwide, as well as to increase the quality of translations which has also raised customer satisfaction.

**Official Response from Beth Anderson:**

> Thanks for leaving a review! We're glad that Phrase had made the content localization at your business faster and more accurate. To be able to reduce errors when launching products worldwide is great news and of course vital when looking to succeed in growing globally. We're sorry you find the platform sometimes lacks intuition, we're always looking to improve the platform so this is something we can look at in the future to aid your translations.

  ### 15. Very good web-based TMS

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 01, 2025

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

I like the load times, the simple user interface, the connection with Plunet. I use it everyday at work. Never had to reach out to support for any issues, I could find the info I needed online.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

I do not like the fact of not being able to import bilingual files back into Phrase, which is possible in other tools.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Assignment of licenses to linguists. Not having to download a desktop app or log into a server.

**Official Response from Beth Anderson:**

> Thanks for leaving a review and it's great to hear you use the platform daily for your work without any issues! We understand that some tools offer alternative options for certain use cases and I will feedback your dislike to the team.

  ### 16. Thorough Editing with Phrase

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 09, 2025

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

I have been using Phrase for MTPE and Editing procedures on translation company accounts. By having to click every sentence, it helps go over thoroughly when performing proofreading.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

There are too many unnecessary checkpoints on QC. For example, there are many instances the ending punctuation differ into other languages. These have to be checked every time, and there are too many redundant checkpoints when performing QC.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it as a vendor for translation companies who has contract with Phrase.

**Official Response from Beth Anderson:**

> Thanks for your review! It's great to hear you use Phrase as a vendor to support your translation needs. We're sorry you find there are too many 'unnecessary checkpoints', I'll feed this back to the team.

  ### 17. Best choice within my knowledge

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

It costs me nothing, includes a sufficient QA tool within itself, recommends machine translations only as options (not so strongly, not as NO.1 options), and has no bugs in essential and frequently used functions.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

1.	In QA, dates and numbers (in terms of differences in unit like million and billion) translated from Japanese to English and vice versa are always picked up as errors. It requires certain amounts of time and attention to make sure in QA that these are not errors. Phrase would be better if it includes such typical conversion in QA.
2. Phrase on the translation company side is kind of a black box. I have no need to worry about that but that is not very comfortable. They may stop using Phrase at their discretion. In addition, as I have no idea what are happening on their side, I am not in the position to recommend Phrase to a company who does not use it. (I am not sure but high user review scores may help companies to continue or start using it.).

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Work efficiency improved by features such as a bilingual view, translation and term options provided alongside, instant translation preview, a sufficient QA function, and easy on-line delivery to clients.

**Official Response from Beth Anderson:**

> Thanks for leaving a review! It's great you find it helps you with your translation projects. We're grateful for your feedback and take on board your responses in order to help improve our platform.

  ### 18. Phrase is pretty convenient and works well.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 22, 2025

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

The AI translation tool is pretty good, i enjoy doing translations quickly.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

Sometimes it does not recognise the terms i have saved, or keeps translating something in the wrong way after i have corrected it many times.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is making the work flow smoother and quicker, and is a good tool for managing translation information.

**Official Response from Beth Anderson:**

> Thanks for leaving a review, we're glad the platform enables you to do translations quickly. I'm sorry you find it sometimes doesn't translate the way you want it to, please reach out to Support if this continues who are more than happy to help.

  ### 19. Very convenient!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Anastasiia K. | Subtitle Translator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 16, 2023

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

I like the new AI translation improvement option. I like to use it when I want to check my grammar quickly

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

I'd like to be able to see my translation score (the number that tells how close I am to the original) quicker.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Phrase helps me to make app and website translation easier

**Official Response from Beth Anderson:**

> Thanks for leaving a review! We're glad you find Phrase helps you make translations easier and that it supports your grammar corrections. The feedback on our new AI functionality is super as we're always looking to improve the platform for our users.

  ### 20. User-friendly platform with excellent support, but inflexible pricing model

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 05, 2025

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

Phrase is an intuitive and efficient translation platform that significantly enhances multilingual content management. The ease of use makes it accessible for both linguists and project managers, streamlining workflows with minimal onboarding effort. One of its most valuable features is the ability to integrate multiple automatic translation engines, allowing for flexibility and better accuracy across different languages.

Another strong point is the customer support—while AI-based assistance often falls short, the human support team is consistently helpful and responsive, ensuring quick resolutions when needed. Overall, Phrase is a reliable choice for those seeking a well-designed and easy-to-implement translation management solution.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

While Phrase excels in usability and customer support, its pricing structure is a major drawback, particularly for language service providers (LSPs). The model based on processed words lacks flexibility, making budgeting and project management unnecessarily difficult. In the translation industry, workload fluctuates—some months are high-volume, while others are significantly lower—yet unused words do not carry over. This results in paying for words that aren’t utilized, which is a major frustration shared across the LSP community.

Despite its strong features and ease of integration, this pricing approach creates inconsistencies in cost-effectiveness, making it difficult for businesses with variable workloads to fully optimize their investment. Adopting a more adaptive and scalable pricing model would make Phrase a much stronger solution for professional translation teams.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Efficiency & Workflow Optimization – The platform simplifies project management by centralizing translations, enabling smoother collaboration between linguists, project managers, and clients. This significantly reduces manual work and improves turnaround times.

  ### 21. Great Text Segmentation, But AI properties of little value for the Translator working in Finnish

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 02, 2025

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

The segmentation of texts. This has always been the most helpful feature.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

As I translate from several languages to Finnish, the AI properties that have made the product very much more expensive, do really not help much. The Finnish language is too complicated for AI to be helpful.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It makes the translation process faster and helps with some vocabulary.

  ### 22. Using Phrase daily as a PM/Proofreader

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 06, 2025

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

It's quite user friendly and allows us to use different MT engines. Also the fact that different LSPs can work on the same project just by sharing the token.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

When importing Excel files, it's not easy to select specific cells, it's seems one can only choose columns.
It would also be nice to be able to select the number of files one can see per page on a project.
It would also be good if the words we don't spend during an invoicing period, be it processed or MTUs, could be translaported into the next invoicing period.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's our preferred CAT tool at the moment and it solves the issue of having both projects with and without MT just by allowing us to select Disable/Enable MT engines.

**Official Response from Beth Anderson:**

> Thanks for leaving your review, we're glad you find Phrase user friendly and allows multiple LSPs to work on one project at the same time. We appreciate feedback to help us improve the platform, and I will pass on the areas you suggest for improvement to our team.

  ### 23. Useful for terminology consistency

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Machinery | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 31, 2025

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

One is the "read" and "write" functions of the translation memory. The second is the comment feature. The third is the QA check system.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

The part where translation memory from the TMS cannot be reused in Strings.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When using Strings, the translation memory and term base were not displayed in the window, but the role status was set to "Project Manager" instead of "Admin".　It was resolved because I was advised via email to double-check.

**Official Response from Beth Anderson:**

> Thanks for leaving a review and listing the three things you like best about Phrase. We're glad you resolved your issue and can go on using Phrase to support your work!

  ### 24. Phrase makes translation more efficient, and is helpful for discovering translation inconsistencies

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Hava E. | Technical Writer, Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 18, 2024

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

1. Filtering for a word and checking that it has been translated consistently over all segments. Often, filtering in both the source and the target is particularly helpful, to search for mistranslations.

2. The "Show hidden characters" feature heps check that there are no additional or missing spaces, particularly between tags and text.

3. I don't use automatic translation during translation file import, as I prefer to supervise the translations segment by segment. However, if the CAT pane is open, marking a segment as confirmed automatically jumps to the next empty segment and inserts the most relevant translation suggestion, which speeds up the translation process.

4. The Translation Memories are helpful for storing translation variants particular to our subject matter.

5. The QA feature is particularly helpful for finding tag errors, which are otherwise difficult to notice.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

1. Phrase does not automatically use translated terms from our translation memories in its translation suggestions for a segment, provided by the translation machines. I have to accept the segment translation suggestion, and then click on the mistranslated term and click again on its translation from the translation memory.

2. For translations imported from Paligo, the tags contained in the target are colored gray, and I need to manually replace each one by a blue tag. WIthout this replacement, when the completed translation is imported back into Paligo, it doesn't recognize the tags and omits their contents in the translated document.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We provide documentation in Mexican Spanish and Hebrew, as well as English. Originally, we outsourced the translations to a translation agency, but found that since they didn't understand the product, their translations were faulty, to the extent that it was difficult to understand from the translated User Guides, how to use the product. As a result we needed to invest considerable time in reviewing and correcting the translations.

Eventually, we stopped using the translation agency, and started doing the translations ourselves, with the help of Phrase. For the Spanish translations, we send the translated documents to a colleague in Mexico to review, and she generally requests only a few minor corrections.

**Official Response from Beth Anderson:**

> Thanks for the review Hava and leaving such detailed feedback, it always helps us to understand what customers are looking for in our platform and how we might improve. In regards to your tagging feedback and other suggestions, I will pass these onto the relevant teams.

  ### 25. Excellent Translation Platform

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Daniel W. | Linguist, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 29, 2025

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

I like the ease of use and intuitive design of the platform.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

I wish, when looking at a project, you could see at a glance the name of the translator (or QA person) for a given job.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The platform makes it easy to assign translators and QA checkers to jobs, and it is also super easy to check the status of these jobs. This saves me a lot of time. Before we were using spreadsheets to send translations, which is cumbersome, and also involves time in creating the document itself.

**Official Response from Beth Anderson:**

> Thanks for leaving a review, we're glad you find Phrase easy to use with an intuitive design! We're always open to feedback on improving the platform for our users, and so I will pass this onto the team.

  ### 26. Phrase TMs review of the Interface and General Comments of Features and Ease of Use

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 10, 2025

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

I like how the interface is easy to learn, the learning curve is not too steep. The CAT works nicely and concordance search as well and it is easy to add new terms with shortcut keys.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

Maybe that I cannot check my translation memory automatically nor manually, a window would be nice, or something concrete. I do not use all the features as our organisation does not allow us to make such changes.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is helping me with my assignments and swift responses from my professor. Everything is easy compared to the hassle of for example using email and word files.

**Official Response from Beth Anderson:**

> Thanks for leaving a review! It's great you find the interface easy to learn and that the CAT works nicely. We always try to improve our platform for our users so I will take on your feedback regarding checking your translation memory and pass this to the team.

  ### 27. Very user-friendly but terminology management should improve

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 12, 2024

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

I love that Phrase is so very user-friendly, simple to navigate and usually fast. All the information translator needs is right there without much need to switch through various windows or tabs.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

The biggest downside is the terminology management. It's not built for multi-term entries. Most complex TBs are concept-based meaning that a concept has an entry with various possible variants, e.g. acronyms, abbreviations, short forms, etc. Phrase does not support this. Displaying multi-term entries is painful and it does not match the terms within entry correctly. Metadata for terminology entries are also very limited. Many client require multiple metadata which are not supported and cannot be easily mapped in Phrase.

Also, Phrase can be quite laggy with large files but I guess that's expected.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps that it's an online tool so multiple linguists can work on it with TM being updated live.

**Official Response from Beth Anderson:**

> We're so glad you find Phrase user-friendly and simple to navigate! We're sorry you've experienced some slow response time when using larger files, and we hope this doesn't have to greater impact on your work. In terms of terminology management, I will take this feedback to the relevant teams as we're always looking for ways to support our users maximise their usage of Phrase and ways to improve.

  ### 28. All has been great, with minor fixes

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

Phrase Localization Platform streamlines translation and adaptation for diverse languages and cultures. Its user-friendly interface, robust translation management, and quality assurance tools enhance efficiency and accuracy. Automation features further accelerate the localization process, making it a valuable asset for global expansion.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

It lacks certain features or functionalities that are available in other localization platforms, such as more advanced reporting and analytics, tje inability to apply filters to documentation or more robust machine translation integration.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Tackles the challenges of translating and adapting content across different languages and cultures, ensuring consistency and quality while streamlining the entire process

**Official Response from Beth Anderson:**

> Thank you for your review, it's nice to read you like the user-friendly interface, quality assurance tools and that Phrase enhances your efficiency and accuracy. Whilst you find it lacks certain functionalities or features, we always take on board feedback and share it with the team to enhance the product for current and future users.

  ### 29. Its a complete Platform

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 19, 2024

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

The most useful feature at this time for localization is the multiple file types that you can choose and how you can customize the options.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

As for the most useful feature I mentioned, I think it could be better if you add more examples to understand what some of the file customization fields are for, many of them give examples that are not understandable for most of the translators or it is not clear how to fill those fields, for example in the “Phrase tags”.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Phrase solve our problems when we have some projects with complicated file types like .xml, the multiple options for customizing the settings make it possible to translate files that are not possible on other platforms.

**Official Response from Beth Anderson:**

> Thanks for taking the time to review, we're glad to hear you find the most useful feature is the multiple file types that can be chosen and customized. Thanks for the suggestion of more examples, we're always looking at ways we can help improve the platform and user experience.

  ### 30. Easiest-to-use tool

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** jun m. | Senior translator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 05, 2025

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

Efficient for localization with reasonable features, operating quite smoothly even online

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

Excessive error detection, which is irrelevant for English to Japanese translation: e.g. numeric, etc.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps me to complete given translation tasks on time due to its smooth operation.

**Official Response from Beth Anderson:**

> Thanks for your review, it's great you find Phrase operates smoothly and makes your localization process more efficient.

  ### 31. A reliable and convenient service

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 14, 2025

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

I appreciate this platform because it ensures that inputted data is reliably saved in real-time, allowing me to work with confidence and peace of mind.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

When I contacted the support desk in English, I received a prompt response. However, when inquired in Japanese, it took longer to receive a reply. As this is a platform available in Japanese, I believe it would enhance the service even further if responses to inquiries in Japanese could be provided within a similar timeframe.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

While working online, I was unsure whether my progress was being saved automatically, even after consulting the manual, so I reached out to the support desk. I promptly received a courteous response, along with clear instructions on how to ensure my work is saved before closing the screen, which was very helpful.

**Official Response from Beth Anderson:**

> Thanks for leaving a review! We're glad to hear you find Phrase ensures your inputted data is reliable for saving work in real time, providing you peace of mind. We're glad our support team were able to assist you, despite it being a longer response time for help in your preferred language. We always try to ensure all our customers receive prompt support response times, and therefore I will pass this feedback along to the team to understand how they might improve the customer x support experience. Our help center is also available for guides and resources that may help if you get stuck on future queries.

  ### 32. One of the best localization platform but still is frustrating to use on a daily basis

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 17, 2024

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

- Robust support for multi-language translation
- Figma plugin that can export text and screenshots into Phrase Strings
- Supports multiple export string formats
- Plural keys

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

- API documentation is lacking
- Phrase CLI has limitations
- The Figma plugin is slow and often crashes.
- Overall, the product feels unpolished, with many non-critical bugs (e.g., search filters not working)
- No ability to set rules on key names (no ability to enforce no trailing whitespace, only use underscore, etc.).
- No ability to prevent curly quotes from being used.
- No ability to auto-convert key names based on file export time (JSON vs ARB).
- After performing an action on the GUI, you need to refresh before performing another action. Otherwise, conflicts may result.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using Phrase Strings to manage all UX copy for our products.
This allows developers to never hard code text, allowing designers and writers to freely change and optimize the UX copy.
Also, this allows for scable multi-lanague support.

**Official Response from Matt Owen:**

> Hi there - thanks for taking time to leave a detailed review, t's very helpful for us to hear this feedback, and I will be passing this on to our product and design teams. I'm sorry to hear you've found some of the features and capabilities frustrating to use. For API documentation, I'm attaching a link to our product support pages which may be helpful, but please do reach out via customer support for more information, we'd be happy to help!

  ### 33. We were able to find a solution for an issue we were struggling with.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Sports | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 16, 2024

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

We used Crowdin before which seems outdated in terms of the interface and its non intuitive navigation, so when we switched to Phrase I liked the platform UX and it seemed to be less complicated than the previous tool.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

The fact that I can't send my title tags, slugs nor meta descriptions for translation using the Webflow connector app. I confirmed it with your support and therefore, needed to find a workaround for that. However, it was annoying at the time.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Enabling consistent translations across all our projects, so we can be sure that the repetitive things are retrieved from translation memory.

**Official Response from Beth Anderson:**

> Thanks for leaving a review, it's great to hear you find Phrase more intuitive and less complicated than your previous tool. We're sorry to hear you had trouble with tags, but glad you've raised with Support to help find a solution.

  ### 34. Average

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Health, Wellness and Fitness | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 16, 2024

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

The platform user experience is slightly above average. Catchy and intuitive enough. Contacting the Phrase support is easy and they reply very fast.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

Some obvious features are missing from the translation editor. The TM search is not precise at all and very slow to show up results. The file parser is not very precise and we often encounter issues with multilingual excel files. Often there are bugs or downtime periods. Although the platform offers, at least in their ads, several software integrations. Unfortunately when you start to use them, you realize there are several blockers and limitations that do not encourage us to use it further. Examples: Braze and Gdrive.
Several software integrations are missing, specifically Canva and Strapi.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Streamilining the localization process. Ability to keep everyting on one TMS.

**Official Response from Beth Anderson:**

> Thanks for your feedback. We're glad to hear you've had a positive experience with our Support team. We're always trying to improve the platform and make it easier and more intuitive for our users and I will pass your comments on to the relevant team.

  ### 35. Phrase

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Biotechnology | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 19, 2025

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

The thing I like most about Phrase is its speed in translation

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

The thing I like least about Phrase is that it is difficult to initially set up some features (like Translation Memories)

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Phrase speeds up the translation work and keeps the document formatting unchanged

**Official Response from Beth Anderson:**

> Thanks for leaving a review! We're glad you find Phrase speedy for translation, if you're ever having trouble understanding our platform there is lots of guides and resources available.

  ### 36. Phrase TMS: No hesitation for continuing to use

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shinya M. | Consultant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 06, 2025

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

Phrase TMS is easy to operate with certain flexibilities, and ensuring the quickest trouble shooting in case of its need.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

Handling or operation manual is only English, which sometime causes difficulty for the staff members on the user side.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- Phrase is used for preparing the original text to conform with LLM or NMT translations.
- Also used is as the post-editing CAT tool.

**Official Response from Beth Anderson:**

> Thanks for the review Shinya, we're glad you find Phrase TMS easy to operate and that it helps you as a post-editing CAT tool and your LLM and NMT translations.

  ### 37. A streamlined, uncluttered CAT tool with helpful basic functionalityl

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mark e Monica D. | Linguist - Global Content: Quality & Language, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 03, 2024

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

The most helpful feature is probably the instant segment filtering.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

I dislike the lack of useful metadata in segment searches. The fact that only one translation can apparently exist in a TM seems like a serious problem in the case of one-word segments.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am using it as a CAT tool, and its efficient interface aids the process.

**Official Response from Beth Anderson:**

> Thanks for the review! We're glad you find the platform to be streamlined and uncluttered and that you find the instant segment filtering the most helpful. Thanks for your feedback regarding certain segment searches, these comments are valuable to us improving the product in the future.

  ### 38. Clean interface, easy to use

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Laura H. | Translator, Transcreator and Editor - Brazilian Portuguese and U.S. English, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 29, 2024

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

Phrase offers a clean and intuitive interface with a minimal learning curve, especially for linguists with prior experience using the most common CAT tools. From the perspective of a freelance linguist, I was able to start using it immediately with no issues. The real-time preview window is also a big help. Also, after several years using the platform almost every day, I've almost never run into any issues with server lag or downtime.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

Phrase has a handy mobile app that can be used to work on translations on the fly, a feature I greatly appreciate and often use. But unfortunately, the app will be deprecated in October 2024.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Phrase simplifies task management and offers an easy interface for concordance searches and QA. It also has both online and desktop versions, which means I can work in various environments, online or offline.

**Official Response from Beth Anderson:**

> Thanks for your review Laura, it's great you enjoy the clean interface Phrase offers and find it easy to use. We always welcome feedback on improvements and will pass these along to the team.

  ### 39. Very good

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Online Media | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 29, 2025

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

Easy to use. Quality checking is also easy.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

Numbers don't always translate between different language formats. Inputs don't always save immediately, requiring the page to be reloaded.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

N/A

**Official Response from Beth Anderson:**

> Thanks for your review, we're glad you find Phrase easy to use. In terms of number translations, we're sorry you find it this doesn't always translate between formats - we'll pass this onto the team to understand how we can improve this for future usage!

  ### 40. Great software for translations

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Writing and Editing | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 18, 2023

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

I've just started in the translation field and Phrase was the first software I used to help with Portuguese/English translations.
I thought I would find it difficult, as it was a very new concept for me, with several features, but, to my surprise, the adaptation was smooth and quick.
I'm very pleased with the experience, and with the way Phrase has helped me with productivity and adapting to this new area.

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

I've noticed that if I take a longer time between translating one passage and another (which can happen more or less frequently, depending on the size and complexity of the subject), the software ends up automatically inserting a passage in the text's original language instead of the target language. This can be resolved quickly by selecting the translated passage manually, but ca be a little upsetting sometimes.

I must also emphasize that, like any automatic software, the translation is unlikely to be 100% correct, and it is necessary to analyze the translated content thoroughly before finalizing the text. The accuracy of the translation also depends on the author's writing style, their eloquence, the clarity and organization of their text, all of which will have an impact on the quality of the machine translation. This, like any job, requires research, attention, and effort. I complement the translations with Deepl and then I get a highly satisfactory result.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For me, the biggest benefit of Phrase is the possibility of dividing the text into sections—something I never thought would be significant in the process, but it makes all the difference—making it much easier to understand and translate the section without noise. The fact that Phrase learns your translation preferences is another big plus, because all the translators of the company I'm working at can help to improve each other's text, and this is especially true for specific terms (names of national institutions, terms for medicine, agriculture, mathematics, chemistry, etc.) that are hard to translate from the original language to the target language, or vice versa. Because of the way Phrase fine-tunes its sensitivity to translated terms, many terms that I would have wasted a lot of time researching are already translated correctly the first time, which is only possible because of the work and effort of my team, the benefit of which we reap with Phrase.
With Phrase, the work and time involved in translating a text word for word, manually, is simplified by the automatic translation feature. Even though some parts may have to be modified to better suit what the author wanted in the original text, knowing that the software is memorizing our preferences and is constantly modifying and improving, the more we translate within it, gives us more confidence in relying on technology for translation. Productivity increases and we are able to translate more in less time, with guaranteed quality.

  ### 41. Userfriendly, clear

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 24, 2023

**What do you like best about Phrase?**

Easy to use and I can use it on my phone or computer

**What do you dislike about Phrase?**

There was some features that were not easy to use on my phone like to put the automatic translation from Deepl. On your phone, the section with the translation is not really visible or easy to click on.

**What problems is Phrase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I can use/receive comments directly on the translation I did so it avoids sending emails back and forth.
I like the key system and the framework in general, it's easy to use.
Everything is sorted out, no need to use an Excel anymore with lots of tabs and authorization issues.

**Official Response from Brittany Nelson:**

> Thank you for your review - we're so glad to hear you've been able to leave Excel sheets behind! Thank you for the feedback regarding our mobile app and we're happy to hear you're enjoying the comments feature as well.
