## PhpStorm Reviews
  ### 1. At home in PHPStorm

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Thomas H. | Senior Frontend Engineer, Hospital & Health Care, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 17, 2017

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

Built in integration for services like FTP/SFTP and common code repositories. Integration goes beyond external services and include a host of features for working in CMSs like Drupal and Wordpress.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

Sometimes adding a layer of abstraction on top of things like GIT or SVN can make it more cumbersome to use, but often the solution is to become more knowledgable with GIT or SVN.

**Recommendations to others considering PhpStorm:**

There are benefits to open source software, but there are also benefits for paid software. With PHPStorm, it continues to get regular updates and add useful features. On the flip side, with the plugin system, the sky is the limit to extending PHPStorm and making it do what you need.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Working with an agency and being spread across multiple clients, PHPStorms MDI and Projects makes it easy to switch between different environments and keep things straight and organized.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Entertainment | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2017

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

The autocompletion and being apple to explore a while project by clicking through the classes. Also the error and type checking.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

It feels a bit slow at times compared to other editors that do 80% what phone storm does.

**Recommendations to others considering PhpStorm:**

Give it a shot and see what it can do, I'm sure you'll be surprised.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Developing a backend application, it makes it easy for new people to onboard and explore the project.

  ### 4. An excellent tool

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** James Maverick A. | Director, Internet, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 27, 2016

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

PHPStorm covers a lot of tools for the developer, but my favourite has to be the customisation of everything, right down to the ability to tweak the code standards use (no matter how obscure). It is hard to pick a favourite feature though!

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

They do alot of updates, which is good and bad. If it is a feature release they need to uninstall and reinstall the new one. If you have quick bar links etc then they dont get updated, which adds to the update pain. The "minor" updates are fine though since they auto install, just a shame it doesn't do that for all updates.

Another downside is that I use some ruby projects, Jetbrains charge more to support other languages - now that is their business model which works but its a shame they dont to an all-in-one IDE like other competitors. They offer a all-in package but the price of it (per developer) for a company is way over the top.

**Recommendations to others considering PhpStorm:**

Explore all features! I only used a few at the start (i.e. separate console and GIT) it really does perform well when you link it all up.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It solves many development problems, by integrating many tools into the same program. Elements like GIT, console, terminal and even plugins (community based) if you need even more! It speeds up dev time and reduces dependency on more open windows/programs

  ### 5. Best refactoring tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 19, 2017

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

Best tool for refactoring. It's very easy and fast. I wish they had more refactoring options for non-static methods.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

Auto-formating doesn't work with sql well. Auto-alignment messes our existing formating as it replaces our tabs with spaces.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Rapid development and reduction in technical debt.

There are so many tools built in that you don't get out-of-the-box from other IDEs or Text Editors.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 26, 2017

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

I love the shortcut and intuitive nature of Phpstorm. The application has many plugins I can use as needed, for different projects. I love that the shortcuts to open a file, and the simplicity of such shortcuts (where I can add a trailing slash when searching for a file to signify I want to search for a directory instead.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

I don't like how slow phpstorm is out of the box. There are settings you can change to solve this issue. For example, when Javascript files are too slow due to compiling settings, I can change this. However, I think out of the box many of these things should be disabled, with tool tips later to enable them. It can be frustrating for a first time user who is just looking for a new ide

**Recommendations to others considering PhpStorm:**

Give it a solid try before disregarding it.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I've realized that you can auto format any language you code in when you have the right plug in. I'm solving bugs, and creating new features for clients.

  ### 14. Amazing feature rich IDE

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mark S. | Developer, Computer Software, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 22, 2016

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

Has all the features (and more) that I want in my IDE. Debugging, version control integration, code inspection, automated formatting, error checking/linting. Fairly performant considering all the things packed into it. Also has some plugins available for it written by 3rd party people.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

It does use a bit of memory, but very rarely have had it crash on me. It would be nice see more community plugins for it. It would be nice if you could suppress certain types of errors it detects. I wish debugging was still easier to setup.

**Recommendations to others considering PhpStorm:**

If you are looking for a stable IDE that has all of the current feature sets of an IDE this is definitely one to check out.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I think having all sorts of tools in one application saves time from switching and configuring different applications.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lubor B. | CTO, Head Developer, Co-founder, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 23, 2017

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

PhpStorm is definatelly the best PHP IDE at the time. It has all features you could need to develop small-to-large projects, based on PHP. We switched from Nusphere's PhpEd and this change was nicely accepted in our company. I like code-completion based on out framework, usage of PhpDoc tags and automatization to create them. Coding standards settings are really complex and allow us to fit the different projects.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

No easy&comfort way to edit remote files throught FTP(S). Even it's not a good way to edit projects this way, sometimes it could be usefull on some minor tasks.

**Recommendations to others considering PhpStorm:**

PhpStorm is the best PHP IDE, worth the money for sure. Do not consider, try it.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We work on many PHP projects for our clients. PhpStorm brings us the best development platform, making our team more efficient.

  ### 19. PHPStorm, always my first choice to PHP development

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 20, 2017

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

PHPStorm helps to built great PHP applications, their features are the best and they are always improving. The plugin support is great, some missed features are covered by the great variety of plugins. Auto-complete features on almost any framework make it very useful. They have theming support, it is great because i have some visual problems and with themes i can feel more comfortable while coding reducing the visual impact of being most of time working at my computer.

Their Javascript/CSS/HTML support make it suitable to design websites without having to use another tool to do the job.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

Almost nothing, they need best support for some frameworks, but they are always updating and adding new features.

**Recommendations to others considering PhpStorm:**

It's the best choice currently available, i will use it over other products all time.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Developing PHP applications to improve a variety of business process and making websites to serve as customer support portals.

  ### 20. PHPStorm A great IDE worth exploring if you are using PHP

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Poornima H. | Senior Software Engineer, Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 23, 2017

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

Zero configuration setup using XDebug. Easy setup and configuration for debugging web applications With PHP, JavaScript. LIve edit for chrome is an added plus. Can debug remote applications on VM as well as local and pretty fast. It has all the basic features of an IDE (autocompletion, code analysis, formatting, git version control etc.) plus the user experience makes it worthwhile. Uses less memory and can handle multiple application projects open without hanging and decent plugins available for most features you need. Works with mac pretty well.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

Pricey compared to net beans and cannot work with cross applications with Java as well (you need to buy IntelliJ for that)..More pricey.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Faster and better IDE means faster, cleaner and easier way to develop and debug web applications that use PHP,JavaScript, HTML and CSS.

  ### 21. Awesome

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Josh T. | Senior Software Engineer, E-Learning, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 09, 2017

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

JavaScript intelligence. Of all ides I have tried, intellij products provide better code intelligence towards javascript.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

I cannot seem to find unit test integrations. Visual studio is good at doing that. Wish I could have that.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a Senior Software Engineer I am tasked to build things fast and efficiently. PHPStorm is a great tool for that.

  ### 22. It's like Intellij Idea, only better

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Caroline E. | Software Developer III, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 03, 2017

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

I love that this program is tailored to PHP development, as the title suggests. For years I used Intellij-IDEA for PHP work, but switched late last year to PHP Storm. As silly as it sounds, I love that the Monokai theme is default. Debugging is pretty easy to set up, depending on where your project lives. If you've used Jet Brains apps before, it has the same intuitive, awesome

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

So far, I have not found much to dislike.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have several apps that I manage via this program and love being able to see my full file structure in PHP Storm. Debugging is a breeze, and the suggested auto-fills and line by line variable information is priceless to me.

  ### 23. Useful application for heavy development

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kyle M. | Application Programmer, E-Learning, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 12, 2017

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

With PHPStorm, navigating between classes and following through method calls is a breeze, making debugging a lot easier. The autofill/autocomplete features are useful, with easy commands for filling in use statements for classes you're trying to use.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

The application is a little heavy for simpler HTML/Javascript editing, so when I need to do those I just open up a text editor.

**Recommendations to others considering PhpStorm:**

Try it out, it's definitely worth it. If you don't see it meeting your needs you can always switch back - but I switched and never went back.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Working with larger PHP codebases can be troublesome for some applications, but with PHPStorm I haven't run into any issues. It helps keep work moving.

  ### 24. Great IDE!

**Reviewed Date:** April 12, 2017

I like all features about PHPStorm. It makes daily work so easy. The best and most valuable feature is Version Control, so you do not have to use command line GIT commands, etc.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

There are many notifications, but you can turn them off without problems.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am building PHP based website applications and PHPStorm is just great for this. I do not know any better software for this purpose.

  ### 26. An overall time saver and organizer

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Telecommunications | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 23, 2017

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

What I find to be the best features of PHPStorm include SSH Access, FTP/SFTP access, and the code auto-complete suggestions, syntax coloring, and a community backed behind it which creates plugins. PHPStorm is extremely customizable.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

I dislike the GIT/version control system PHPStorm has. If you are not careful it could become quite messy. Other than that, I don't have much more to complain about.

**Recommendations to others considering PhpStorm:**

PHPStorm overall has a get GUI with many features. The auto-complete features combined with the ease of use really allows you to develop with speed and focus on the code at hand instead of trying to make the program work.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With PHPStorm I can view all the files in a sidebar and very easily manage our framework and website, I am now able to develop faster, quicker, with automatic uploading to a testing server.

  ### 27. Best auto-completion intelligence for PHP & Javascript

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 27, 2016

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

Where PHPStorm shines in comparison to the competition is how amazingly accurate, smart, and quick the auto-completions are, and how accurate it's refactoring tools are. It's the accumulation of what PHPStorm provides out of the box and the number of community plugins that I have installed, for frameworks that I write in i.e. Symfony and Angular 2, etc.

I can't say enough great things about how great PHPStorm performs refactoring operations; it does a very good job in updating references compared to other similar products.

Navigating through a PHP code-base is a breeze if you learn the right things; looking up by class name, file name, or any symbol is just a few keystrokes away.

As I have hinted, there are a lot of plugins available that you can install to extend what PHPStorm can do for you. I think a good IDE or code editor must have this level of extensibility in order to keep up with such the fast-evolving field that are programming languages, and PHPStorm's Plugin Repository really seem to have a diverse collection of plugins for frameworks, auxiliary technologies, etc.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

Boot-up time can be quite slow, and indexing bogs down the application a bit, but they only happen rarely in my workflow that I rarely notice them.

There are various integrations that PHPStorm has that I personally think does too much, i.e. its Docker and Vagrant integration. I prefer PHPStorm not do much in those fronts and leave them to me in exchange for less resource consumption, but I understand that different people might prefer to let the application do the work.

With that said, I still find PHPStorm fast relative to the suite of functionality it provides. Comparing it to vim is just unfair; PHPStorm just does a lot more, and usually performs what it does rather fast.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I write code in PHP & Javascript, and PHPStorm really helps save me time especially when refactoring.

  ### 28. usage

PS is one of the top IDEs for PHP that I've used to date, and I think that with time they even find ways to improve and exceed my expectations.

The autocompletion for functions, classes, predefined functions in the language etc. is the best feature for PHPStorm.

Sometimes it tends to force me to setup a database server and do things that I cannot (because I use a virtual machine). This is my biggest pain point with it.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It speeds up your work considerably which is extremely good for work.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Logan B. | Developer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 12, 2017

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

Seriously one of my favorite features of PhpStorm that other text editors/IDEs don't have is the fact that you can use ctrl/command click to go to function and class definitions.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

I don't love how project wide searches are designed. I think they could be a little more user friendly.

**Recommendations to others considering PhpStorm:**

I am a full time PHP software developer and this product has significantly increased my production.

  ### 42. Takes some getting used to, but pretty good

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mladen D. | Owner, Internet, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 19, 2017

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

PhpStorm has a lot of features, and a lot of available plugins for anything you would want. You can handle git commits and REST api testing from the IDE itself

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

It's pretty slow when compared to Sublime text, for example. It saves automatically, so that's something you may not like or will need to get used to.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Once you are used to all of it's features, it helps you do a lot of things from the IDE itself.

  ### 43. Most advanced IDE in the market, period.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2017

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

PHPStorm is one of the most flexible and advanced IDE's out there, I've been using it for the past 5 years and it's well worth the €250/year price tag.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

It's built on top of Java, so there are parts of the IDE that don't really feel native.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it on a daily basis to write the code for all my front-end / back-end code.

  ### 44. The awesomeness of phpStorm

I love the file explorer and click to definition capabilities of PhpStorm. If i am in the file explorer, i can start typing the name of the file i'm looking for and it'll take to to the correct place. LOVE IT!

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

It is much slower than many other platforms out there... unfortunately

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Client-side issues stemming from users playing with our activity engines on the web.

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

The easy integration on several framework packages and the amount of plugins available for this tool.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

It' written on java :( therefore you need way too much more memory to run it without any issues.

**Recommendations to others considering PhpStorm:**

Maybe switching away from Java as source code?

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Framework integration on personal projects (yii2 / laravel)

  ### 46. PhpStorm Rocks !!

  ### 47. Great IDE

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joseph C. | Software Programmer, Business Supplies and Equipment, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 08, 2016

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

Great themes available for both light and dark settings.

PHP code completion is very responsive and accurate. Even older applications seem to work well with this feature.

Works great with TypeScript and Angular as well.

XDebug also works great with PHPStorm's "zero configuration" debug setup. Very handy.

VCS support is great with GIT.

When I brainstorm a better way of completing a task, PHPStorm usually can accommodate. Many features and configurations. Typically I do Symfony development and the code completion is great. But what's more impressive is I also work with a legacy system that uses old PHP 4/PHP 5 code that is a nightmare. I was pleasantly surprised how well PHPStorm could pick up the functions and globals in a mess of includes. I recently switched from using git command line to the VCS feature in PHPStorm and it has saved me a good deal of time.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

Sometimes it eats up a good amount of ram. Not sure why but some projects make the CPU jump as well. If you have a powerful enough computer this shouldn't be a problem. I have run multiple instances with 4GB of ram no problem. Make sure you get the 64bit version if you have more than 4GB.

**Recommendations to others considering PhpStorm:**

Do it.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I code many plugins for large applications so having the tools that PHPStorm provides speeds up my development time dramatically. I used to be a big believer in text editors, but PHPStorm with XDebug and code completion can't be matched.

  ### 48. Love PHPStorm

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 20, 2016

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

Code Completion . Built in Git, FTP. automatic deployment, built in PHPUnit testing , built in web server, error highlighting, SASS support, file Diff, database access, all without leaving the IDE. ,,, and that is only 20% of the features. Love that it runs on both Mac and Windows so I don't have to switch machines to work.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

Some very trivial minor UI issues, for example, it takes too many steps to rename a file or folder. The language for opening folder in Explorer view isn't standard so it takes me a half a second more to find the right option. Very trivial.

Wasn't a fan of the move to a subscription model, but having just reviewed the costs because of this survey I'm going to switch over.

**Recommendations to others considering PhpStorm:**

Just try the 30-day trial. I tried a lot of different IDEs over the years and none have come close to supporting all the features of PHPStorm. For small projects or quick edits I'll use Microsoft Code just for simplicity. For everything else, it's PHPStorm.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Finding and IDE that works with me. Have tried a lot and keep an eye out for new IDEs, but I still come back to PHPStorm. It's development path is just a ahead of my learning path so when shiny new technology distracts me, PHPStorm already has those features built in.

  ### 49. A premium PHP developer environment for teams

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

With all features and plugins running the tool can get sluggish sometimes.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Faster more reliable software development

  ### 50. An Excelent IDE For PHP
