## About PhpStorm
PhpStorm is a PHP integrated development environment (IDE) developed by JetBrains that provides tools for writing, analyzing, testing, and debugging PHP applications. It is designed for professional PHP developers, full-stack web developers, and software teams building server-side and web-based applications. Common use cases include developing PHP web applications, maintaining legacy systems, working with modern JavaScript frameworks, integrating databases, and managing large or multi-module codebases. PhpStorm supports the PHP development lifecycle within a single environment. It includes context-aware coding assistance, project navigation tools, refactoring capabilities, debugging functionality, and integrations with version control systems and testing frameworks. The IDE runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux, providing a consistent development environment across platforms. Key features and capabilities include: • Intelligent code assistance with context-aware completion, syntax highlighting, inspections, quick documentation, and automated refactorings for PHP and related web technologies • Built-in support for PHP frameworks such as Laravel, Symfony, and Zend Framework, along with support for HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, and templating languages including Twig and Blade • Navigation and project analysis tools that enable search across files, classes, symbols, and usages, supporting work in large or complex codebases • Integrated debugging and testing tools, including breakpoint management, PHPUnit support, and version control integration such as Git • Database and deployment tools, including SQL support, remote interpreters, Docker and Vagrant integration, and built-in terminal access PhpStorm enables developers to manage backend and frontend workflows within a single IDE. By combining language-specific code intelligence with debugging, testing, and deployment support, it provides a structured environment for PHP application development across local and remote environments.

## PhpStorm Reviews
 ### 1. Best PHP IDE ever

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amélie H. | Co-fondatrice, Internet, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 04, 2016

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

User friendly interface, smart code completion, many integrated tools, many plugins available to use different frameworks with. It can be used on both PHP and HTML only or JS projects. It has a premium integration with modern PHP or JS frameworks. Just pick-up a plugin or click an option to add framework support! You can interact with GitHub and work on pending tasks. Code versioning user interface works like a charm. You also can customize your user interface. It has an intelligent code completion when using frameworks. You can deploy to your different environnements (local, testing or production) just on one click. It has a great files or folders comparing tool

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

Some plugins aren't up to date, but most of time they because integrated in the IDE and I never managed to simply use remote debugging. It needs quite a lot of computer resources. You have to restart the IDE on every plugin update

**Recommendations to others considering PhpStorm:**

This software is really worth its price compared to free tools.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use this software for all my CMS projects (using WordPress or Drupal) and web projects (using CakePHP, ZendFramework, simply HTML5+CSS3 or JS orojects). I can work on both simple and more complex projects. Configuration is easy, versioning support is perfect, so I can focus on code and I'm not worried about 3rd tiers tools integration. Back-end and front-end development are both fluent.

 ### 2. Master of IDE for PHP Development.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ariful H. | Senior Web Application Developer (Remote), Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 06, 2016

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

Best things about PHPStorm are
- Key Map Customization: Literally you can customize every available action. It help most if you came from other IDE or Editor and want to keep your old key map style.
- Search: PHPStorms Search functionality is like Google of IDE. You can search any file, function, text insistently. You do not need to move your hand from keyboard and you can browse any part of your project.
- Refactoring: Refactoring was never easy like refactoring in PHPStorm.
- It support a great deal of integration like Git, Github, Gitlab, Bitbucket, Npm, Grunt, Gulp, Vagrant. If anything does not come by default, you'll find a plugin for that.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

There are two things I do not like about PHPStorm. These are:
- PHPStorm is bulky product. It takes 5-10 seconds to load and for large size project the loading time increase.
- Subscription based purchase: The idea of subscription based purchase of the product seems very odd to me, specially for individual developers. The whole community reacted when JetBrain declared their new subscription policy and the price is too high.

**Recommendations to others considering PhpStorm:**

I can say without hesitation that PHPStorm is the best IDE for professional PHP developers. It provide every facility a developer need. Price of the high quality product is also a bit high but I bet once a developer start using the features this IDE provide, it worth the high price.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For any PHP based project, either a framework or a simple script, I use PHPStorm for development. PHPStorm help me to keep all of my code formatted .

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

cmd+B to go to definition of highlighted item is really helpful and lacking in other IDEs I use.

general UI/UX makes me feel like i'm on a PC in the 90's. debugging isn't even close to intuitive.

**Recommendations to others considering PhpStorm:**

Useful for PHP and worth learning the various extra features of even though it can be a bit clunky.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm making web pages. Benefits of PHPStorm is it's specific to PHP so even if it's a bit lacking in certain features it's better overall for PHP specifically, esp for debugging.

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Sports | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 12, 2017

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

Everything is built into one environment, from editing code to versioning to database management to custom plugins. It has the best auto suggestion and the best customizable keyboard shortcuts/templates that I have seen

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

It's a little big for an ide which makes it hard to use if just editing individual files

**Recommendations to others considering PhpStorm:**

If you work with entire projects, use some kind of versioning, need to access databases, and need to track progress through some project manager then you are missing out if you don't have this.

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 25, 2016

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

The setup for XDebug was painless! I'd tried setting up debugging in Eclipse for some time to no avail. PhpStorm made it very easy to get debugging going. No more echo debugging.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

I wish it was free/open source, but considering how much more productive it's made me, the price is understandable.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

PhpStorm lets me fix PHP bugs in a snap. It was horrendous before without debugging trying to echo out variables and guess at what was happening.

 ### 10. My one and only IDE

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Muhammad Sumon M. | Senior Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 05, 2016

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

Autocompletion, latest and almost all needed frameworks and CMS support. Vast plug-in availability, pretty themes and mostly it meets my needs. Can be easily modified to work for every stack.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

Often updates, a bit resource hungry and expensive. Takes much time to boot at first and to index the files.

**Recommendations to others considering PhpStorm:**

The best IDE for PHP devs and with some plug-in it can be used for front-end development too. Great support of PHP's latest features and has good framework and CMS integrations.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it to code with PHP and Laravel mostly. PhpStorm supports me to be more productive while I code and I have become used to it.

 ### 11. Amazing PHPStorm

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ajinkya N. | Senior Integration Engineer, Computer Hardware, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 20, 2016

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

features and accessibility of debugging code. It has always helped us during feature development and dashboard development.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

UI could be little better. Also it would be really helpful to have mobile app and less crashing problems.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Working on Automation and making dashboards with PHP. PHPStorm helped us a lot with development and debugging.

 ### 12. Only IDE you need for PHP development

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David A. | Network Admin, Media Production, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 10, 2016

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

PHPStorm works out of the box with very little setup required, when there is an issue with setup, it is very easy to fix. Coding in PHPStorm is also very inuitive and powerful.
Code formating can be easily customized to any standard, along with refactoring tool, make even the most spaghetti of code, legible and easy to follow.
PHPStorm also have plugin support for plenty of addons for any of the few features that might be missing.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

Sometimes it does become a resource hog, and slow down, but that is only if I open more than 1 large project at a time.
Also the database feature could use a bit more polish, but that is only when compared to rest of the features

**Recommendations to others considering PhpStorm:**

I do not regret purchasing PHPStorm, it is my most commonly used software, and whenever I start on new system, its the first thing I install.
I do not regret my purchase, and the personal license is quite reasonable considering the cost of other software.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I now use PHPStorm exclusively for my IDE, even for projects that only have front end side.
I get my work done faster, and since its cross platform, I can work on it from any of my machines.

 ### 13. Our best PHP IDE

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in E-Learning | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 25, 2017

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

The user friendly interface is the best of this IDE. Like your siblings, it has a very good tools distribution and is so useful for a programmer to have all ordered and clean, and of course easy to find.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

Itt has some problems with the memory and I lost a little time to solve it sometimes. This can be improved for new versions.

**Recommendations to others considering PhpStorm:**

Try it, you wil feel in love.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It aids to develop software in a efficient way.

 ### 14. Best of IDE for PHP

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 23, 2017

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

Its a great IDE. After giving PHPStorm a shot, I find it to be quite productive to use.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

Not every time import settings worked as designed. Slow indexation on SSD too.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Development, analysis, planning, testing.
I can do work with more effectively.

 ### 15. PHPStorm makes me happy to be a PHP dev.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nathan A. | Founder, Internet, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 29, 2016

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

PHPStorm has an incredible understanding of the code. Most of the time it knows exactly what's going on. I love being able to put my cursor on something, hit "ctrl+b," and be taken to the declaration of that item immediately. PHPStorm also includes the refactoring tools and test running that I need to be able to practice test-driven development and Clean Code principles. With some configuration, PHPStorm also supports debugging code being run in the browser, allowing you to step through your code and examine variables, objects. etc. PHPStorm's HTML Emmet support makes writing HTML a breeze. PHPStorm also supports setting up file watchers for things like CSS preprocessors such as SASS.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

PHPStorm can be a little slow depending on your specs, especially on Linux. Also, it's not cheap.

**Recommendations to others considering PhpStorm:**

Learn the keyboard shortcuts. Whenever you need to do something, look up the shortcut and use it. Write your code using objects and interfaces. If you're not using interfaces consistently, PHPStorm is prevented from doing the deep code analysis which makes it so powerful.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

PHPStorm gives me the tools I need to write quality, error-free code in an efficient manner.

 ### 16. Good IDE for frontend development

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 18, 2017

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

I like the live templates (chortcuts to create common code), file watchers (triggers jobs like grunt og gulp, or other jobs).

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

Sometimes the IDE blinks, and sometimes it runs "indexing" for a long time with high cpu usage

**Recommendations to others considering PhpStorm:**

For me I have tried WebStorm before, but it lacked support for Php. Therefore PhpStorm is a good choice if you like WebStorm.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Can write code efficiently, and like the automatic indention for all languages in my development stack.

 ### 17. It's become almost a necessity to day-to-day work

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Edd T. | Lead Software Developer, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 22, 2016

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

PHPStorm is a fully featured IDE, so it handles all of your development, but also database management and automation (task runners and tests). For this reason it can replace more that a single piece of software.

It's also reliable, important for when stressed and you need it quickly.

As a linux user it also works seamlessly, which can be unusual.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

It's not a free product - which is fair enough, but makes it harder to recommend to new users.

Also understandably, when you're asking a lot of it, in the past I've had to increase the memory limits to cope.

**Recommendations to others considering PhpStorm:**

A free trial is available, if you try it and the machine you're running it on is powerful enough, then you're unlikely to go back.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Developing a PHP-based web application in a business environment, PHPStorm has helped us reduce the number of bugs being committed and pushed (often for silly reasons) through it's highlighting of problems quickly.

 ### 18. Great developer tool

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 22, 2016

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

It makes it so easy to find all function uses and declarations throughout a large codebase. It's easy to scan through all the files, quickly refactor functions and files. I love that it works with git too.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

Sometimes it slows down the machine when it tries to reindex.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Faster coding!

 ### 19. PHPStorm, the power-toolbox for PHP application development

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michelangelo v. | CEO, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 16, 2016

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

Since I started trying out PHPStorm in 2013 I fell in love with it immediately. Not only is it a very powerful editor for writing code and managing your applications, but it comes complete with all the tools you need besides your development so you don't need to exit the IDE for testing your REST API's, debugging and profiling your code, running your tests, connect and manage your databases, validate your code and configure and start your virtual machines with Vagrant. It's an all-included power-toolbox when you're serious about web application development with PHP.

Their support is awesome and very responsive. If you describe your issue correct, you'll get quickly solutions provided and their community is just great to learn from.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

This IDE is full of features, more than you probably ever going to need which makes this IDE a bit heavy, but this is not affecting the responsiveness of this application. Fully featured and with additional plugins it's still the best IDE to work with.

**Recommendations to others considering PhpStorm:**

Go to the Jetbrains website and download a 30-day free trial from https://www.jetbrains.com/phpstorm/ and see for yourself why PHPStorm is such a great IDE

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In application development, the most important tool is the IDE. If you don't have the best tool around you loose precious time waiting for it to load, build or execute whatever you've written.

PHPStorm is the IDE that provides all the tools (and add some) you need to develop robust web applications without loosing a snappy, highly performant user experience.

 ### 20. PHPStorm is so far the best PHP IDE for Mac

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dimitar C. | iOS Developer, Internet, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 15, 2016

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

It does a great job with organising and keeping track of all my projects. It's integrated Git client is good and the deployment options are great. It works great with large projects, you can easily jump between different parts of them. It shows great inline tips which help me code better. You can easily see what changes have you made compared to the git head.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

I still have some issues with setting up the shortcuts - for example there's not an easy one for searching inside the currently open file. When working with frameworks (for example - Yii) it can't always lead you to the declaration of a method.

**Recommendations to others considering PhpStorm:**

You should definitely download and try the trial version - you have a month to decide if you like it or not.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I and the rest of the PHP devs on my team are able to write code faster with fewer bugs. The quality of our code improved since we started using PHPStorm. It helps a lot that it is cross-platform as we are using different OS.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gökhan E. | Technology Consultant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 07, 2016

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

I have been using PHPStorm since 2 years. I have had free license when I was undergraduate student and used it for my senior project and on my internships also. It has great theme options ( Darcula i like the most ). I have used Laravel framework on it and it does its job very well. Also the interpreter options are so easy.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

Sometimes autocomplete does not work well and I am deleting the code unconsciously loosing my speed of code. Sometimes fan of my Macbook pro retina 2015 mid's fan going crazy while i am coding with php storm. I dont know if this happens only to me but it is a bit problem and maybe intellij can decrease cpu usage.

**Recommendations to others considering PhpStorm:**

I recommend PHPStorm to all Software developers who likes different themes, easy to set up and configure better. PHP Storm gives updates so much and fixes bugs. Therefore, it gives what a software developer desires.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am software developer and using PHP most of the time. PHPStorm is beyond enough for developers solves the IDE question completely. I suggest every developer to give a try for PHPStorm.

 ### 23. A fast, intelligent productivity multipier

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Robert B. | Senior Application Developer, Telemedicine Consultants R&D, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2016

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

PHP Storm has an intuitive UI that makes it fun and easy to code large applications. There are a multitude of keyboard shortcuts that make it fast to find the code you're looking for. It's not free, but it's not "expensive" either.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

Some of the third-party integrations can be troublesome. Also, there are definitely unresolved issues with case-sensitivity between operating systems.

**Recommendations to others considering PhpStorm:**

Buy PHP Storm! There is not possible way you could regret this decision.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It can be difficult to keep the entire standard PHP library, not to mention your own classes/functions, in your head at one time. An intelligent IDE can mitigate this difficulty, but only if it's working alongside the user. PHP Storm helps me to tackle hard problems and discover novel solutions.

 ### 24. PhpStorm a good development tool

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 21, 2016

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

PhpStorm is a commercial, cross-platform IDE for PHP.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

nothing in disliking. Being a good development tool, the feature it support is tremendous.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

PhpStorm provides a rich code editor for PHP with syntax highlighting, extended code formatting configuration, on-the-fly error checking, and code completion. All features available in WebStorm are included in PhpStorm, which adds support for PHP and databases. WebStorm ships with pre-installed JavaScript plugins (such as for Node.js), which are available for PhpStorm as well at no cost.

 ### 27. Best Development Program To Date

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chris S. | Web Developer, Marketing and Advertising, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 24, 2016

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

PHPStorm combines all of what you need into one program. It has the ability to use Version Control, it lints every type of code you throw at it, and it's smart enough to know when you paste in code, to indent on its own. It can connect to the FTP you're code is running on, and compare live code with development code and show changes. Just does it all.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

Only downside is I can't grab a small chunk of code and just paste it in there, PHPStorm can only seem to work with actual files.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm able to work with my coworkers on the same project, pull/push code upddates, and it's one of the best operating IDE's out there. The speed it increases is a lot, comparing to everyone developing and taking their own time to upload or get updates piece by piece.

 ### 28. The most complete IDE for PHP

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ariel M. | Full Stack Developer PHP, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 14, 2016

**What do you like best about PhpStorm?**

Support for various frameworks like Laravel, Symfony, Yii, CodeIgniter (with a little work), among others,
Many utilities integrated and more available for download.
Posibility to customize the style or download many more.
It is cross-platform and very easy installation, You can program in the operating system that you want!
VCS integrated such as Git or Mercurial, you can add files to the repository with file browser and commit it with a single click, without the console.

**What do you dislike about PhpStorm?**

It is very heavy, consumes a lot of RAM personally to me, almost 800MB in only one instance in Windows.

**Recommendations to others considering PhpStorm:**

Having a good computer.
Taking the time to learn the shortcuts.
Read the documentation and download plugins available.

**What problems is PhpStorm solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use and recommend Phpstorm since 1 year large project in my work and has saved me a lot of work and time.

 ### 29. Great IDE for php

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lacy P. | Director of Web Communications, Higher Education, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)
