Obviously the Creative Commons licensing is great; the selection is decent (certainly for the price, and even price notwithstanding the selection is solid overall). The inclusion of video a year or so ago was a game changer as well; the clip selection isn't mind-blowing but you can usually find something close to what you need unless you're an absolute power user or have a very specific need. The selection can feel limited if you're looking for abstractions or representations ("sad person," "learning," etc.) - you'll also start to notice similar stock photos used around the web if you lean on Pexels photos too too much, so your content may not stand out if you're distributing widely. We are improving design and visual appeal on online courses while avoiding copyright/intellectual property issues; also enhancing internal communications and reports. Pexels is a good meta-tool for starting conversations about open resources in education and is user-friendly for faculty members who want to create their own learning resources in combination with other tools (pulling stock video or photos from Pexels into Adobe Spark, for instance). Being a graphic and website designer for many years I was impressed with the amount of diverse photo content the site offers. It makes my life as a designer easier knowing I can use high-quality images without the fear of breaking any copyright laws. What do you dislike about Pexels? Overall the site is great, perhaps a filter for various things like show black and white only, photos by for web/print sizes etc, that type of thing. Recommendations to others considering Pexels: It's a great free to use service, there really is nothing to lose! Whatever type of photography you're looking for its a good assumption that they will have something to match the needs you're looking for. They also keep up-to-date with the latest news etc, so when the COVID-19 crisis first happened they were a great resource for finding images to accompany content I worked on regarding the pandemic. The problem for many years before Pexels as well as some other sites came along was that copyright infringement was a big issue when it came to designing. To have such a diverse poll of quality content at my fingertips really has made my life easier and allowed me to create higher quality designs. Pexels gives me peace of mind when choosing photos for my designs knowing I will not face any kid of backsplash from photographers. I may also start uploading some of my own photographic content to the site to get my name out there as a photographer as I have a portfolio of thousands of images I have been taking since the mid 2000's. Not sure, but some categories have content that is not very good. They can insert more images, but this is free, so we can't expect Shutterstock-level content. Pexel has a very rich gallery of stock images especially those when looking for content on Afrika. Navigating through Pexel is intuitive you simply type into search bar the title of the required image and it will return with a list of images for you to pick from. I cant say I find anything I could say I dislike about this site. If anything its more about getting more people to list on the site and contribute to the gallery. I wish if photos got uploaded with more description and explanation on the subject matter and geo-location (incase one wants to use some of that information ) I understand that as a free site they can only offer a limited selection but must they show us the selections from pay sites even though you will get a 15% discount if you are registered with Pexels. Pexels provides these with very little hustles, its easy and free to sign and the best is they are royalty-free images. It would be a nice touch if one could additionally contact the users who uploaded pictures incase you have comments and suggestions on the atmosphere behind an image. Pexels is FREE, so you can use the images there for your personal project or for mocking up a design with your client. But that's not even the best part. The best part is the quality of many of the images there are not in the paid Image Banks. The image, art direction, and professionalism in many of the pictures are superb, the images probably will improve your project just by using them. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
