Unlike other Gen AIs, Perplexity gives you access to a range of different models, which helps you get a more targeted solution that better matches what you’re expecting for your problems. What do you dislike about Perplexity? One downside I’ve noticed with Perplexity is the quality of its answers compared to other alternative Gen AIs. If you’re looking for a general, medium-level response, it usually delivers. However, when you need something more specific or detailed, it can fall short and may not provide exactly what you’re asking for. In those cases, you often have to write more precise prompts to get closer to the result you want. What problems is Perplexity solving and how is that benefiting you? Perplexity solves the problem of spending too much time searching across multiple websites for reliable information. Rather than jumping between several tabs, I can get a clear, summarized answer with sources all in one place. Unlike standard LLMs that might “hallucinate” facts, Perplexity anchors its answers in web sources. It offers both normal and deep search modes, which makes it easier to choose between a quick lookup and a more thorough search. The accuracy and factual reliability of the data it presents to users are low. The tool is quite expensive and, in my view, not worth the cost. It also feels less capable than Gemini-like AI models. I like that Perplexity has the potential to be a really great app for developing. It seems to handle the front end piece well, and even allows you to feed HTML into another app, AI app, or an actual developer. It probably does a good job with that but requires a lot of coaching. I appreciate that it processes a lot quicker than other AI apps, which expedites the process of getting things done. This is really helpful for me since I have a full-time job and still need to manage my time efficiently. It allows me to get the front end completed in a shorter amount of time, maximizing the time I have for other aspects of developing the app. Setting up Perplexity was pretty easy, and I got a free twelve-month pro upgrade, which was a plus. I actually spend a lot of time creating an overview of what I need, but it sometimes omits important information without asking for permission. This omission is quite problematic because it's crucial to the development of my app. I asked Perplexity about this, but it initially said it didn't omit anything when it actually did. This happened repeatedly, making me not trust it fully. Additionally, it can't develop the front end shell, which is something I expected it to handle. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. In my line of work, the accuracy of information is super important, so this feature allows me to quickly refer back to the original source document to verify that the information is, in fact, true. I don't like that there's frequent UI changes, and it seems like also recently one of the models has been changed out or some prompting changes have been made that have led to the prompts that I have been using previously to significantly degrade in performance.
