"A highly effective and efficient tool that saves time"
5/5
What do you like best about PerfectIt?

PerfectIt goes far beyond the editing and checking tools integrated within commonly-used word processors. It does behave like AI and can detect when a term such as climate-change mitigation needs hyphenating and when climate change does not, giving the writer the choice of amending a phrase or leaving it as it is.

PerfectIt also analyses every feature of a document for consistency, such as alternate spellings, tabulation, lists, how the writer uses upper and lower-case letters, and much more.

Moreover, if a writer or editor uses a style guide, PerfectIt allows them to customise PerfectIt to automate the checking. Of course, the spell-checker in Word can be customised to do this, but not to the extent that PerfectIt can.

Whether I am writing or editing a document, I always start with the generic spell-checker in Word and finish with PerfectIt. This software integrates seamlessly with Word and is now a core tool for my quality control procedures. It has saved so much time that it has paid for itself many times. What do you dislike about PerfectIt?

One caveat is that longer complex documents require a lot of processing power, meaning that checking can take time. However, this only happens with intricate compositions and older or lightly-powered computers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Loving PerfectIt"
5/5
What do you like best about PerfectIt?

PerfectIt helps me to edit with thoroughness and consistency, by prompting me to check/confirm a huge range of possible errors. It is fully customizable, so I can check texts in UK or US English and create bespoke style sheets for individual projects. I can choose the range of checks it carries out and I am always fully in control of what is changed, or not changed, during PerfectIt's run. It is a terrific tool for a professional editor like me. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PerfectIt?

Honestly there is no downside to the software that I have ever found. One tiny point is that while it's running its checks, I can't add notes/comments to the text and have to make a separate note if there's something I realize I want to come back to outside of the PerfectIt check itself, but that's all. "Must-have backstop for professional editing"
5/5
What do you like best about PerfectIt?

I've worked with some of the best sub-editors in the business, and they're obsessive about consistency and about catching little mistakes. I'm good. But PerfectIt moves me closer to the standard of the very best: it catches precisely the kind of mistakes that most human sub-editors are most likely to miss.

It's also notably easier to use than competitive tools that I've assessed.

Please note that G2 solicited this review. But I was happy to give it, something I don't often do. I spent a while testing PerfectIt and a couple of rivals; I figure other people might as well benefit from that. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PerfectIt?

There's pretty much nothing I dislike. An earlier version crashed once, on a very long (100+ pages) Word document. But the program seems to be under very active development and good quality-control, because that has never happened again. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"A super helpful editing tool that saves time and makes life easier"
5/5
What do you like best about PerfectIt?

My favorite thing about PerfectIt is the customization of it. I do a lot of work in fantasy/science fiction editing and it's great to be able to customize the tool to each unique book. The recent integration of the Chicago Manual of Style has also been awesome and super handy. It isn't a replacement for editors or editing, but it's a very useful tool that complements my editing process and saves me a lot of time by fixing many of the small nitpicky technical things. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PerfectIt?

Honestly, I don't dislike anything. It can be a little difficult to figure out how to set everything up, but there are a good amount of resources out there to help with that. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"The best investment for editors and writers"
5/5
What do you like best about PerfectIt?

PerfectIt allows me to create and adapt style sheets to ensure my file follows the chosen style guide. It has a number of checks for proper use of acronyms, which come up a lot in my editing. I also use it for fiction. Because it analyzes the manuscript you are working on, it can tell you if names and terms, even made-up names, are treated consistently. I have used PerfectIt for five years and it has been a reliable checker that makes me look like an eagle-eyed editor. Writers would do well to add it to their arsenal of tools. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PerfectIt?

There is one check I never use: the series comma. This test brings up every instance of a possible need for the series comma -- that is, every instance of a conjunction -- which is not helpful when dealing with a 250-page manuscript. But all I have to do is uncheck the box and the program doesn't run that test. Easy peasy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"PerfectIt for Expert Witnesses"
5/5
What do you like best about PerfectIt?

As a lawyer who is also a Rule 702 expert witness, I strive to write the best declarations and affidavits I can. PerfectIt helps me do that as I proof my final drafts. It makes a big difference and spots consistency problems I never knew existed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PerfectIt?

PerfectIt has many functions I never need in my somewhat simple expert witness reports. So I am skipping over tables or contents and so many other things in Microsoft Word. I wish I could disable them permanently. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Essential for big projects"
4.5/5
What do you like best about PerfectIt?

PerfectIt really takes a lot of the mental load off of the editing process. I'm always amazed at what it finds in a long document even after I have gone through it painstakingly. The software really pulls its weight in finding minor inconsistencies that might not make or break a text but that always improve quality overall. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PerfectIt?

Customizing the software can be a bit of a learning curve, and because of that I haven't really used this aspect of the tool. I wish it were a bit easier to make simple, custom style sheets. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"PerfectIt helps ensure quality and professionalism."
5/5
What do you like best about PerfectIt?

I work for an educational institution and am responsible for copyediting all institutional documents, including various manuals of two hundred-plus pages. I have used PerfectIt since 2014. What I like most about PerfectIt is its ability to check for consistency in capitalization, punctuation, hyphens, and lists. I also love the seamless integration of The Chicago Manual of Style. It saves me a considerable amount of time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PerfectIt?

I really can't think of anything I dislike about PerfectIt. It is a very useful, intuitive, and solid tool for editing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Excellent tool for all copy-editors and proofreaders"

What do you like best about PerfectIt?

Before I heard of it I had to try to use Word macros to clean up the texts I work on and found them tricky and time-consuming. PerfectIt does all the basic checks I need and can be customised for each client or style. I haven't even dipped more than a toe into what it can do, as there is so much! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PerfectIt?

Everything it does is great. I wish I understood all the more intricate elements in the customising boxes, but the only real improvement I can think of is turning smart quotes into curly and vice versa! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
