There aren't many downsides that I have found while using this program. The biggest one for me is more of a nuisance than anything else. As a romance editor, I have many words in my manuscripts that get flagged as possible word choice errors that truly aren't. I've been using PerfectIt for 3 or 4 years now, and I can't imagine ever going back to editing without it -- it has become an indispensable part of my process. PerfectIt ensures error-free documents. IMO, the most helpful feature of PerfectIt is the thoroughness with which it double-checks multiple formatting and writing styles at once allowing you to consider which option to choose. As a technical writer/editor, it is impossible to compare everything and ensure one style was used while the remainder of the document differed. This software does that for you. It is preferable to run the checks within the file itself rather than uploading everything into a cloud for later revisions. It is the perfect tool for anyone who writes to have it at their disposal. Incorporating your customized style guide or a universal one such as Chicago and creating a table of changes made while also tracking additional changes is an added bonus. The least helpful feature about PerfectIt is that you can’t add it to other software such as PowerPoint. To ensure slides have the same uniformity you have to copy and paste from Word to the other software after you have checked it through PerfectIt. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
