It's also great for editors who work with multiple style guides-- it is easy when working for different style guides to accidentally switch them; for example, putting an Oxford comma into AP writing or leaving one out in academic writing. PerfectIt simply looks at the consistency of your writing. So, if you have title case for all of your subheadings except one, it will point that out. Voila! Error fixed. However, it does NOT do the extremely annoying practice of suggesting "corrections" to the writing/editing that you, a highly qualified human who knows how to use the English language, have just done. In other words, PerfectIt is for highly qualified human writers/editors who do not want a "smart" application messing up their writing! I love this software because it does exactly what I need it to do-- cleans up the "picky little errors" that sneak in but leaves the English language expression to me. **What do you dislike about PerfectIt?** At this time, the PerfectIt version for Mac (OS) is only available on the Cloud. I would really like to be able to use PerfectIt offline, and I would like to be able to use the other features that PC (Windows) users have at their disposal, such as being able to load in specific style guides. Being able to specify a style guide would be very helpful. Hopefully, they will expand these capabilities to Mac users soon. I also believe they have no version for Linux users. **What problems is PerfectIt solving and how is that benefiting you?** Picky little errors creeping into an otherwise well-edited document... ### 2. I wish all of the styles (e.g., Chicago Manual of Style) were free, but I understand why that's not possible right now. **What problems is PerfectIt solving and how is that benefiting you?** It helps me get right to the heart of the matter, as I don't have to waste my time fixing minor inconsistencies. For any lawyer that writes contracts, briefs, or pleadings, this is a must-have. **What do you dislike about PerfectIt?** As with any software editor, it is only as good as the person using it. It still requires skill to edit a document using PerfectIt. In the wrong hands, this product can create havoc. This cannot be given to a secretary to edit a document without a lot of trust. **What problems is PerfectIt solving and how is that benefiting you?** PerfectIt finds buried errors like spelling inconsistencies, unclosed quotes and parentheses, and capitalization inconsistencies that can be hard to spot in a long document. It has that "perfect memory" for these (and many other) common errors. ### 4. It catches many more errors that Word or Grammarly and suits all of my legal drafting needs. **What do you dislike about PerfectIt?** I haven't really noticed any downsides. I have some preferences on how I like dates and code sections to look that I would prefer PerfectIt didn't flag as errors. I'm sure I could update the settings but I haven't gotten around to it because it is easy enough to skip through those corrections and move on to the next ones. **What problems is PerfectIt solving and how is that benefiting you?** Microsoft Word is inadequate at finding errors in legal documents. Some tests have a lot of false positives, so I don't run them. **What problems is PerfectIt solving and how is that benefiting you?** I don't always have an editor available and so with PerfectIt I can both submit work that dosn't need so much copy editing as well as be the editor quickly. ### 6. I have customized style sheets set up for each editing client, which makes it easy to check against their house editorial style. I typically run it before I start editing a document and at the very end. I'm human, so I don't always see little inconsistencies, so PerfectIt provides the peace of mind that I've caught everything. One of my favorite things is that it checks that all abbreviations have been introduced/spelled out. This is such a pain to do manually, and PerfectIt is a huge help. **What do you dislike about PerfectIt?** I have no complaints. It works well and is easy to use. The built-in style sheets, eg for US or UK English, are comprehensive and easily customised. I edit law books and have built my own style sheets for different publisher clients. PerfectIt is a powerful tool that has saved me many hours of laborious manual checking! **What do you dislike about PerfectIt?** It may be something to do with my system, or perhaps my version of Word, but from its early iterations the app has had a tendency to hang at (almost) the last hurdle, when asked to delete superfluous spaces following punctuation. The only way to get the same features is to install Windows and Parallels. I wouldn't be without it now - it saves me so much time and creates a document that is about as perfect as it can be. **What do you dislike about PerfectIt?** It can sometimes run a bit slowly if there are heavy elements in a manuscript, such as tables or figures. Having a choice of Englishes and styles to scan for, and the more recent integration of Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS) guidance make it even more useful. Mac users miss out on so many PI features that PC users have, including style sheet creation, which is a massive shame (though I understand this is more about the way MS Word for Mac works than PI's capabilities). PI for Mac works in the cloud so can't be used offline. Recently, it also seems to have missed some inconsistencies but perhaps that was a glitch. The login screen doesn't permit 'remembering' of my password on my Mac in Word - not so handy with a complex signin.
