D&I were extremely helpful to us when it came to mass-deploying packages or configuration changes, so we had expectations for PDQ Connect. I am happy to report that Connect has surpassed those expectations and more. The agent-based approach allows us to manage our ever-increasing number of remote devices, and the streamlined and user-friendly web interface makes pushing out packages or config changes even faster and more efficient. **What do you dislike about PDQ Connect?** I wish there was a way to hide groups or create an overarching folder structure for certain groups. Maybe there is and I'm just oblivious. There is also the occasional lag in device status reporting. **What problems is PDQ Connect solving and how is that benefiting you?** Patch. Management. Before trying PDQ products, we were basically doing everything manually which, as a small, distributed IT unit, was truly impossible. Especially considering the new cybersecurity rules and regulations being pushed from the US government. Now with PDQ Connect, it's as easy as; Set an automation for Windows Updates, select a group of computers, and hit GO! Implementation was incredibly easy. We came from PDQ Deploy and Inventory and have completely replaced it with PDQ Connect. Much faster and easier for both local and remote users, which was our initial reason for buying into Connect. We then quickly realized that trying to manage both groups of users from two separate products as a bit of a pain. So, we bought all into Connect. Using Deploy and Inventory to integrate Connect with our current endpoints was easy peasy. Now we are leveraging PDQ Connect to assist us with the Windows 11 upgrade. I use this every single day, so there have been a few occasions that I've needed help. Anytime I have reached out to PDQ support, they are on top of it, and super friendly. It's like chatting with a co-worker, not a support rep, which is the best thing about them! **What do you dislike about PDQ Connect?** There is nothing I can say about PDQ Connect that is bad. I only wish there were some features from DNI that were in Connect. Oh, but don't you worry. Have you seen their roadmap!? It is coming, and I cannot wait to get all the PDQ goodness at my fingertips in the future. **What problems is PDQ Connect solving and how is that benefiting you?** With PDQ Connect, we have been able to stay on top of application updates and windows updates. Every time i see a new CVE posted about Windows this or an application that, i don't sweat anymore. I know that Connect is working away in the background to get that application updated or the windows updates applied. It gives me peace of mind and a few extra hours in my day for scrolling r/sysadmin, er I mean, getting some more work done! I was not looking forward to the Windows 11 upgrade staring me in the face. Connect has saved my bacon on multiple occasions with users that have been travelling with a device and needed software, remote support or even a script run on their laptop to address a problem. You can set up Automations to do software patching, run scripts on a regular interval or even update Windows. Being able to find and mitigate endpoint vulnerabilities as well using the Vulnerability scanner is just icing on the cake! **What do you dislike about PDQ Connect?** Being someone that's used Connect for a little while, it's has UX issues that are being worked out. One thing I'd like to see is an Export function on the error log so i can look at it locally rather than navigate the Output window. I would also like to see Queued items fall off after a defined period of time rather than them sitting in queue for long periods of time. **What problems is PDQ Connect solving and how is that benefiting you?** Coming from Deploy & Inventory which we've ben using for 10+ years, I think Connect is a major timesaver. If I need to access D&I, I'd have to VPN in to our local network and access it that way. If i need to do something fast and in a pinch, I can use Connect via browser to address any critical issue that arises. I think of it as almost a Portable D&I because you can use it anywhere. Automations for patching and Windows updating and using the Vulnerability scanner to see the status of our endpoint device security issues was a major player in why I picked Connect. ### 17. IT admins and MSPs alike can use this product very easily to get through a stack of sysadmin jobs, but once you get stuck into it you'll discover that the possibilities are endless, patching, security vulnerability remediation, asset management, Windows 11 upgrades are one of my current projects. How about a package that can convert an MBR partition table into GPT, reboot, change bios options to enable secure boot, UEFI mode, kick off a pre-req scanner that makes sure a device meets the criteria for windows 11, and that its not running from battery before starting an upgrade........... no problem, without ANY user interaction required. It's really easy to get started with, there's some groups that come out of the box that give you a helpful guide in how you can structure your environment tree. If you do get stuck though, the customer support team are very helpful and speak to you like a normal person - with honesty rather than unhelpful solutions. My job would be genuinely more difficult without PDQ, i use it a lot! **What do you dislike about PDQ Connect?** Cant think of any negatives. There are a load of features from the on-prem versions (Deploy & Inventory) that are being ported to Connect, but the development timeline for this is super quick and the key items have and are being prioritised. **What problems is PDQ Connect solving and how is that benefiting you?** Asset management and clear information on the state of situations is critical for my customers. I love being able to give answers to customer questions on the state of their environment and know that the information I have is accurate. "how many devices do i have left on 23H2" "how many dell laptops don't have secure boot enabled" "which devices don't have this reg key in place" I can get the answers easily and quickly. All of this is above and beyond a product that for most of my customers, its primary purpose is for patch management.. yeah it does that, it does it really well, but what sets it apart is the fact that it can do sooooo much more than just handle your patching. ### 25. We don't need the device in front of us in order to do anything to it. We can push installs, updates, configurations, etc. to any device that is on the internet. We have some automation setup on PDQ as well that installs a certain product for us if it's not on the device. We also have created automations to build groups with older versions of software, then package an update of that software to push to the group. This updates all devices needing it. All the packages and automation we have built up is constantly repetitive with no human error and allows us to just let the device hang our for a bit while everything automatically delivers. ### 28. You can create custom groups and automations using the provided and maintained package library including variables that you can use for filtering. You can create custom variables and additional data fields for your devices, to cover additional data. If you have problems creating a deployment package, you can either contact the awesome support team or the great sysadmin community on the official PDQ Discord. A API interface that you can use for the the integration with you existing infrastructure is also provided. The biggest most recent addition is the Vulnerability scanner. I am certain that it will help you to keep up the all the security threads around us. The great thing about PDQ is that they listen to their customers. It does not happen often that you can directly talk to the support team and the developers. Discord is a great place for that.
