I like that there are multiple modules I can use and connect the information that I need. Also, the support teams who answer the phones are helpful even if they don't know the answers. **What do you dislike about Paylocity?** Some of the modules are difficult to use and are not very intuitive. I they are getting better with updates. The benefits module is difficult with too many separate things that need to be done to complete an enrollment. The thought that I have to fill out a spreadsheet, submit it which never works, then they don't get the information correct and I have triple check everything, then have to go to another place to actually have it integrate with benefits it more work than passing out papers sometimes. The performance module needs updating for HR use. The actual performance module needs to be updated. Recruiting - is okay. HR and Payroll is getting better with the upgrades they are making. I would change platforms but it is too much work at this point. The support team is very helpful but the training doesn't seem consistent. I'm sure it takes years to learn a system like this. They are always patience and very nice. **What problems is Paylocity solving and how is that benefiting you?** I think with consistently trying to upgrade the modules - this benefits me. There are some definite quirks to the system that I just have figured out how to work around them. It's also really easy to use. We were up an running on day 1. The training is only held back by our imaginations. I also appreciate the simplified payroll, which is a big reason we switched from Paycor to Paylocity. **What do you dislike about Paylocity?** I can think of nothing I dislike about Paylocity. It integrates with lots of other programs. **What problems is Paylocity solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use Paylocity to manage employee tracking, I9 verifications, and training new employees. It takes days, multiple follow ups, and calls even to get a response to a service question email. There are no dedicated account managers anymore, everyone has a service team, who those members eventually get shifted away to different jobs, so your never talking to the same person. They don't know me or care about my account. It seems like all I ever get from them are stock or AI generated answers to my questions, with attitude (like how dare i ask them or challenge them when their wrong...) so it seems like they don't know the product very well, and often I've been using it longer at this point then they've been employed by the company. Between them not knowing my account and the product, i have to complain to reach a higher level manager every time, even for simple things. So its just exhausting on the service end. **Recommendations to others considering Paylocity:** It is a good system if you are used to other payroll systems. It helped improve the efficiency and speed of our payroll process. I love the user-friendliness and the ability to house multiple functions in one system. Paylocity can integrate with outside systems for benefits, 401k, and more. I really appreciate the reporting capabilities where I can create my own reports. It's also great that Paylocity offers a customizable package for purchasing different modules separately. We have integrations with American Trust for 401k, Cigna for medical, dental, and vision insurance, and UT&I for pushing time card data from our POS Toast to Paylocity time cards. The implementation team was pretty good and our setup went much better than our previous experience with Paycor. **What do you dislike about Paylocity?** The biggest improvement would be related to onboarding. There needs to be texting features for people who are in onboarding. Right now, its only available for applicants in recruiting but once they move to onboarding, no more texts. There is also issues with onboarding where things could be adjusted to be more intuitive when it comes to completing tax forms and things like that for younger employees, which we have a lot of, because those parts of onboarding can be very confusing for young people, especially with their first job. And also, the customer service could be better sometimes. If our regular rep can answer a questions, its pretty quick. But if another team needs to get involved, it can take a long time, especially for tax amendments. The amount of time to process a tax return amendment is unacceptable. **What problems is Paylocity solving and how is that benefiting you?** Paylocity improved efficiency and speed of our payroll process and eliminated multiple systems by consolidating them. It's user-friendly, integrates with outside systems for benefits, and offers comprehensive reporting capabilities. ### 5. It also offers a lot of reports, which is helpful. Their customer service is generally very helpful, although sometimes it depends on the knowledge base of the person you’re speaking with. Running payroll is very easy, and overall they provide good service and products. We run a weekly payroll, and it goes smoothly every week. **What do you dislike about Paylocity?** There are too many new reports, while the older reports are much better: they’re easier to run and they provide better results. At times, they make a lot of changes that they call “improvements,” but they don’t feel necessary. Also, they don’t always inform us about all the changes they’re making (formats, reports, etc.). The changes just appear, and then you have to deal with them afterward. They should communicate more clearly and consistently about what’s changing. The help desk is okay, but sometimes you’re at the mercy of the person who answers the call and their knowledge base. We recently added a new company, and the implementation was not handled well overall—from sales, to implementation, to adding new team members. **What problems is Paylocity solving and how is that benefiting you?** They are helping us with our job cost processing. ### 7. Employees were able to easily use it and all the features it had to offer. As the employer there were a lot of great reports we could pull. Viewing time cards was easy. Being able to have a community section to praise employees was very nice to have. Overall one of the nicer platforms. We had demoed a few sections that would have been very useful given the demographic and organization we serve. **What do you dislike about Paylocity?** There were a lot of little things such as being able to pull multiple paychecks. The reps constantly changed and would reach out asking if you wanted to buy something or add something to your current product. PTO was a nightmare as far as setting up policies. Having a designated account manager is nice but it was often changed. Switching from Paylocity was not easy, there is not a lot Paylocity does to help with the transition. Workflows were also very difficult to use and manage. **What problems is Paylocity solving and how is that benefiting you?** At this time none of the problems we have had have been resolved which is one of the reasons we have moved away from Paylocity. ### 8. It is simplistic and not complicated for either party to use. Things are pretty straightforward to find. It's less expensive than other systems, which is great. The customer service is also a plus since it's easy to get a hold of someone, which reduces frustrations for my team. **What do you dislike about Paylocity?** I find the reporting and performance management and goals aspects of Paylocity could be improved. The reports are often generated incomplete, and the standard reports do not provide enough information, and you almost always need to edit them. There is also a $250 charge for them to do a custom report... The performance management/goals sections are not user friendly and there is no automation to them, especially for a 30/60/90-day review for a new hire - that needs to be sent manually. An automated process would be nice **What problems is Paylocity solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use Paylocity for payroll, time, labor, and full HRIS needs. It reduces manual work with EDI files for benefits and automations for recruiting, ensures compliance, and is less frustrating for the team. Overall, the system does what we need it to do. Some more advanced features would be nice as we continue to grow, but it works for our current needs. ### 10. I wish when we are doing our renewal set up we could have a more efficient way to contact our account manager. When something works fine, there is no need to change. I hate how they changed all of their colors from orange to black. The colors are so depressing when trying to do payroll. I also hate how talking to an employee at paylocity, they won't help you and try to get you to read some peak article that still doesn't help. **What problems is Paylocity solving and how is that benefiting you?** The only new change I am excited about it they are bringing changes to the mobile app where employees can change their direct deposit themselves and not have to log in on a computer or have me do it. ### 14. Cost is bad, service is bad and software is bad. There is nothing to like **What do you dislike about Paylocity?** A year in to our relationship and couldn't be more disappointed. First off our account manager dropped us after 4 months saying he would be with us the whole way. He is still at the company just not servicing our account so nice bait and switch there. They told us a bunch of things during our implementation that were not true. We even caught them pretty clearly in a lie and they tried to gaslight us saying "I know it is confusing but that was not the intent" even though it was said extremely plainly. They ended up giving us a discount for the pricing discrepancy but kept saying they were not admitting they were actually incorrect. Had to take tax payments away from them on the first payroll because they handled it wrong. You never get your actual account manager when you call support it is always some random and you have to pray they are helpful (about 10% of them are). Today the agent on the phone told me I should not change the settings for employee account permissions because it doesn't actually work and will create problems and that I should instead reach out to the security team as they cannot change the settings. The security team has a response time of 3-5 business days..... Now my employee cannot run payroll till they get back to us. Every time you ask them about something "oh they just told us that is how it is set up and we cannot change it". $15k a year to just have nothing work **What problems is Paylocity solving and how is that benefiting you?** Timeclocks is the only thing they are doing semi effectively and even that is requiring a bunch of manual fixing ### 15. Specifically, Paylocity was more focused on their "standard procedures" than paying attention to what our company needed from the jump. We even allotted for 3 extra months before our "Go Live", yet the Paylocity Implementation team sat on their hands for those 3 vital months that would have significantly helped us considering the company I work for and represent has been around for 21 years and has never used any sort of HRSM - everything is stored in hard copies. We are just starting to enter the digital age, and since we were starting with a basic blank slate, we should have been able to customize our Paylocity Platform for the needs of our company. Our implementation team didn't do that and just wanted to follow "Paylocity's procedure" and now our entire system is piecemealed together. It doesn't work the way we need it to and no matter how many times I complained and suggested we just start from scratch when we had the chance, no one at Paylocity wanted to listen to me. It is highly frustrating that the system doesn't work the way we need it to and we have spent COUNTLESS hours on our end - we had 2 or 3 switches on our implementation point. I also highly dislike that Paylocity doesn't seem to be working for Human Resources professionals and making things easier. There are so many areas that are completely wonky and don't make any sense which is highly odd because Paylocity has been around for decades. I don't know what happened to our account but it has not been the easy, seamless process, and the customization we were promised never happened and it's too late now. **What problems is Paylocity solving and how is that benefiting you?** The biggest benefit is having all our HR Personnel files digitized and in one place. ### 16. We are a smaller company and really needed direction for our employees, benefits, payroll, trainings, and how to hire. I have never been on hold more than 5 min and my emails get answered within 24 hours, but usually faster. They are very thorough with compliance. They fixed tax problems we didn't even know we had with our previous vendor. **What do you dislike about Paylocity?** The lack of admin access. Many things have to be submitted through the service desk. Sometimes it would be quicker and more accurate to do it ourselves v. trying to explain the individual complexities of certain policies. On the other side, if a request is made via service, the response is instructions how to do it yourself. Additionally, the PTO display to employees is often confusing. **What problems is Paylocity solving and how is that benefiting you?** We moved vendors because we needed better customer service and Paylocity has delivered that. I've rarely called and been able to talk to my account manager. She is too busy. So, Paylocity keeps a line of support staff to help. It would make sense if people could actually talk to their account managers. **What problems is Paylocity solving and how is that benefiting you?** They solved the OBBB issues quickly before 1/1/26 so we could run payroll for 2026 without having to worry about the 2026 tax forms being incorrect from the start of the year. ### 21. I also appreciate that Paylocity's customer support handles all issues seamlessly, unlike our previous service where multiple calls were necessary. The initial setup with Paylocity was very easy, and the implementation team was thorough and ready with the support I needed. **What do you dislike about Paylocity?** The reporting functions are not clearly defined, and I often have to call in to ask a service team member to help me find what I'm looking for. Example: 401k annual reporting. Customer support has really taken a turn for the worse. I've had to wait for answers to important questions because of the very long wait times. In the recruiting module, when you make notes on a candidate, it doesn't update for their other profiles if they've applied to multiple jobs, it doesn't combine profiles for the same candidate. It allows for multiple applications to the same job for one person. You can't assign tasks for other team members, so you have to pair it with outside project management software. Their emails are often blocked by spam filters. Their customer support isn't excellent. Adding new companies is a pain, and not all functionality works.
