I'm fine with C languages but javascript would be immensely helpful because most APIs and servers nowadays are Nodejs and it would be easier to communicate with them. With the Particle platform, we can verify the state (physical measurement) of a Fire protection system without sending a field technician. Having it be web based is the best and the worst. Arguably the best part is being able to communicate between multiple microcontrollers through the web, which is great for working with friends. I use Particle for Computer Science projects at school, and I've made multiple simple projects that are practical in the real world. It is easy to develop the IoT system with Cloud Platform. Particle Console could use other Cloud Platform&API(like a AWS/Azure/Google...etc), developers could use a familiar environment with Particle.
