"Positive Particle Review"

5/5

What do you like best about Particle?

The product works very well as advertised. The support has been excellent. The fact that we do not have to deal with cellular service providers is the main reason for choosing Particle. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Particle?

Documentation is updated prematurely. Some features were not available with current release but the documentation provided instructions for future releases which led to costly time consuming troubleshooting. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Particle:

We have had very reliable service without the hasstles of dealing with cellular service providers. This saves us countless hours and much frustration. We moved to this platform a two years ago and have not regretted the decision. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Particle solving and how is that benefiting you?

We use the E-Series for asset tracking within our product. We have seen reliable, consistent service for a decent price and no worry back end service. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Powerful platform for managing a fleet of IoT devices"

5/5

What do you like best about Particle?

The Particle console is a really powerful tool that gives you access to all of your devices on a single dashboard. The ability to OTA flash any software updates to your particle products is huge. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Particle?

Coming from the Arduino IDE, the learning curve in VS Code/Particle Workbench is steep. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Particle solving and how is that benefiting you?

Particle has enabled me to deploy a fleet of IoT devices and manage them efficiently. Environmental data logging with traditional Arduino-type microcontrollers is challenging--each board needs its own unique code, you need to keep track of SD cards in the field--the Particle Boron and the Particle Console simplify all of that. Now I maintain one code base and am able to manage all of the devices on a single online dashboard. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Boron a great replacement for LTE applications"

5/5

What do you like best about Particle?

The Paticle universe has been very well thought out and and implemented. It is rich in depth and functionality. The documentation is extensive and constantly evolving and the forums and support staff have always had timely solutions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Particle?

Any system that offers such a range of features comes with layers of complexity. While most problems can be solved through the documentation, it's not always easy to find where, in the documentation, the answer lives. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Particle solving and how is that benefiting you?

Had to do a quick migration from Adafruit FONA to a non-2G solution. The Boron was an easy drop-in (although required a re-worked PCB) . The software changes to support the Boron were pretty straight-forward and the Boron has worked flawlessly after a fast development cycle. (fingers crossed). "Amazing fast working mini computers."

5/5

What do you like best about Particle?

I love how you can make a mesh network and connect these sensors together over the cloud. Update them without having to connect them to your computer. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Particle?

The only problem i've noticed is that sometimes my photon just freezes up for a second. If I'm trying to make something with a quick clock, there's times where it goes behind the timer. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Particle:

Build the best project you have in mind guys, be innovative. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Particle solving and how is that benefiting you?

Im a quite recent owner of the particle and I'm a student so I don't really have any big projects yet, but I really love the over-the-cloud availability, I don't have to take my project apart just to upload and test the code. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Particl Review"

5/5

What do you like best about Particle?

Ease of use and implementation. Initially I had some issues with my hardware, no fault of Particle mind you, and the help desk was extremely helpful in resolving my issues. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Particle?

The fact that I had to use a terminal program (Particle CLI) to generate an Access Token to access Particle Variables and Functions from a custom script. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Particle:

Go for it. You won't regret choosing Particle. Great value for a great price. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Particle solving and how is that benefiting you?

Currently I am monitoring the temperature of a a room and by creating a Particle Variable and push it to the Particle Cloud and then pull the latest value from my custom scripts when needed. The data is just there when I need it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Easy to use, easy to deploy, even more easy to update, and safe."

5/5

What do you like best about Particle?

The best, for me, is the lack of "need to be there". I can update, upgrade, inspect, and interact with, no matter how far from me it is. No cables, no plug-in and -out.

The libraries are great, the online programming website and the online console are easy to use and very helpful.

It's definitely my preferred platform. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Particle?

It would be nice to have a "customer" iPhone app for setting WiFi credentials. But since i install my devices and furniture myself at my customers, that rarely is a big problem. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Particle:

If you are looking for something really cool and professional, yet in an acceptable price range, Particle is your choice. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Particle solving and how is that benefiting you?

Well, I design intelligent furniture, comfortable working "chairs" (more like work-pods (for illustration purposes only, see www.azbi.ch), if you like) for screen-workers. They like the pod to remind them gently for taking a break, they like that the pod automatically deals with lighting, and of course the variable positions they can be in while working. The floor is a separate unit to the ring, and therefore they need to talk to each other somehow. Particle helps me to solve this in an easy and intuitive way. "one of the simplest ways to get into IoT dev"

5/5

What do you like best about Particle?

I think that they make the hardware part of doing IoT dev less painful. I don't have a hardware background so programming firmware isn't something I have much experience with. I like that provisioning a new particle device is super easy and that writing firmware and getting it sync'd to your device is simple and can be done over wifi or cellular instead of having to connect with USB. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Particle?

I think it would be nice if I could use the particle ecosystem with more kinds of IoT devices. Their software is geared toward Particle devices which isn't surprising, but it would be nice to use other kinds of hardware with their studio / device management tools. They used to support Rasbberry Pi development but I believe mostly discontinued support for that. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Particle:

I would start with Particle, especially if you're an IoT novice because it's a great way to learn. They have strong documentation and good examples to follow. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Particle solving and how is that benefiting you?

Particle was one of my first experiences in doing programming with IoT devices and it's one I keep coming back to because of how easy their software is to use. I own several particle devices that I've purchased over the last few years. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Awesome APIs"

5/5

What do you like best about Particle?

The Device OS API is awesome, also webhooks are super easy to implement and integrate. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Particle?

I use BLE in my stuff and the BLE.scan() function shouldn't be blocking when it's provided with a callback function. It should just call the callback whenever it needs to. This has impacted my device's UX because buttons now have to be held for several seconds instead of just pressed momentarily. I'm not sure how feasible this is, but I would like to be able to have a more Javascript-esque way of doing things: for instance, I'd really like a 'setTimeout()' style function or a 'setInterval()' way to run certain functions periodically. I would also like more asynchronous functionality to be built in especially since the internet is such a huge part of why anyone uses Particle. I'm not sure how feasible this is either, but I would LOVE support for MicroPython. I've recently been working with XBees from Digi which are programmed in MicroPython and it's to C++ what a Cadillac is to a lawnmower. However, I'm not sure this could be done while retaining the performance of C++. Even if a tiny performance drop was a consequence, it would be nice to just have the option. Also, there are times when I'm not in an area with good cell service, and it would be much nicer to be able to flash sketches to my Boron locally from the web IDE. Just a thought. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Particle:

Particle is built with developers in mind; it achieves a 'just works' level of functionality I haven't seen in any other IoT platform. I love just how many small things you can access quickly and easily through the Device OS API; previously I've just worked with Arduinos for IoT and so many things that you have to do with Arduino in a complex way are accessible with just a single built-in function call on Particle. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Particle solving and how is that benefiting you?

I'm connecting devices that used to only work locally to the internet via cellular. It's enabled my business to solve problems that we couldn't have previously. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Great backend functionality with Particle Cloud"

4.5/5

What do you like best about Particle?

The backend part of the Particle is a great feature. Being an Embedded engineer and someone who has more embedded software and hardware experience but not so much of cloud backend experience, i have found the particle cloud feature along with something as simple as IFTTT routines opens up multiple possibilities. great functionality for a reasonable price. its not flawless but Nothing which is not fixable but just gets a bit annoying sometimes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Particle?

I have found few problems with the online IDE. sometimes the code I am flashing won't work I would change literally nothing in the code just do a reset and reflash and the same code works fine. Nothing which is not fixable but just gets a bit annoying sometimes. great functionality for a reasonable price. The backend part of the Particle is simply a great feature. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Particle solving and how is that benefiting you?

i have few projects where the particle device is isolated in one place and not always accessible but because of the easy flashing process, I can do over-the-air updates. great functionality for a reasonable price. The backend part of the Particle is a great feature. it's not flawless but Nothing which is not fixable but just gets a bit annoying sometimes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Particle made it easy to code for a multitude of projects."

4/5

What do you like best about Particle?

The simplicity of the board as well as the amount of ports made it easy to connect an ample amount of components to the board. I also liked how I was able to pair multiple boards together in order to transfer data between the devices. I was able to store all my data in the particle cloud from all devices. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Particle?

Unpairing a device was difficult at times but pairing is very simple with the qr code. It took me a minute to figure out that if the particle was paired to another person or students account that they had to go and unpair the device so that I will be able to add it to my account. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Particle:

I used the particle argon and I was able to do almost everything I needed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Particle solving and how is that benefiting you?

Particle has an excellent website with multiple examples of codes as well as projects to assist with whatever needs to be done. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
