Communication Barriers Make ParentSquare Challenging. Honest review by a teacher-user. **Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Lauren W. | Teacher, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** November 07, 2025 **What do you like best about ParentSquare?** The posts feature, particularly the studio editor has been a great improvement over our previous system of contacting parents via the message center on Skyward. Here are some things I like about ParentSquare, particularly posts using the Studio Editor: 1) I can create a template I can use over and over again. 2) I can insert photos and links to both websites, PDFs and other files. 3) I can see the data on who had viewed and interacted with the post. 4) I can share a link to the specific post. 5) If a student enrolls in my class after the school year has started, families can still see previous posts from earlier in the school year (ie- beginning the year information, etc) Some other features I like: 1) Room parents can be added to communicate with families 2) There is a signup feature that replaces the need to use Signup Genius **What do you dislike about ParentSquare?** I am really experiencing a lot of barriers in communicating with families on ParentSquare. As I have been trying to use the platform with fidelity (particularly to message parents, instead of emailing them), I experience barrier after barrier in this form of communication. Here are some challenges I am experiencing with the message feature on ParentSquare (specifically Group Messages): 1) I cannot save a draft message (however, this is an option with posts) I cannot "schedule send" a message (however, this is an option with posts). This is a valuable feature I've used in emailing because I can respond to messages "after hours," but parents don't know that I'm emailing them "after hours." 2) I cannot mark a message as unread (I typically do this when I want to remember to go back and respond at a later time) 3) After a parent sends me a message, I cannot add someone to include in the message (ie - counselor, case manager, etc). This is a feature I use with nearly every email that a parent sends me. I also can't "bcc." 4) I cannot format a message with underlines, highlights, bolds, italics, etc. I often use these features to help organize information and bring attention to important details. **What problems is ParentSquare solving and how is that benefiting you?** ParentSquare is allowing me to create more robust communications to families. ### 2. Horrible cancellation policy. Wrote them to explain that I inherited this software subscription that overlaps in feature with another bundle so when I asked to cancel it within a month of the renewal date, they informed me that they could and would not due to their written policy. This software is thousands of dollars a year and now they say we're stuck paying for something we do not plan to use. This company operates like a copier lease manufacturer which is just slightly above the reputation of a used-car salesperson. Stay clear of this company for not only being inflexible but downright greedy. We are a non-profit school and this just unecessarily reduces limited resources. **What problems is ParentSquare solving and how is that benefiting you?** secured, auditable, anonymous messaging between faculty and staff ### 3. Better Apps That Can Do More **Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** April 12, 2018 **What do you like best about ParentSquare?** I like how easy it is to sign up and for participants to easily add themselves to your group. **What do you dislike about ParentSquare?** I dislike that you can only do communication through the app. Newer apps like Bloomz and Seesaw allow you to incorporate scheduling and assignment sharing components with more advanced technology. **What problems is ParentSquare solving and how is that benefiting you?** Ability to communicate with others without giving people my personal phone number.
