1. Installation of VM is simple with a single ovf file

2. Initial configuration is simple via management interface in VM.

3. Lot of security features and anti-spam profiles are available.

1. Factory resetting is not easy through GUI.

2. Saving the configuration changes takes time.

We have installed Palo Alto VM in Vmware Esxi, where all the servers are installed. With the help of Palo Alto, we are solving the following

1. Configuring appropriate security policies to protect internal servers.

2. Configuring VPN profiles to access the servers from the internet.

Palo Alto VM series is easy to install, implement and configure than legacy. It saves time and always user-friendly to analyze the traffic logs than other vendors(personal experience 😉) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Palo Alto Networks VM-Series Virtual Firewall?

The support needs improvement, its really difficult sometimes to get PA support on troubleshooting calls which is actually important.

The sync between individual vm and panorama logs differs sometimes, this is something PA needs look into. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Palo Alto Networks VM-Series Virtual Firewall?

We did not find any difference between hardware product and VM series appliance of PAN in terms of functionality and performance. We are getting same level of performance and also able to use all the PAN OS feature that we can use on Hardware appliance. VM product always have great advantages as compare to hardware product e.g. easy installation and deployment, no physical wiring, easy backup, easy recovery are some examples. We also like its support to various hypervisors as well as cloud integration. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Palo Alto Networks VM-Series Virtual Firewall?

I personally do not find any technical dislike, but yes PAN should work on their VM licensing and make it easy, currently it is so complicated and hard to understand. Apart from them I do not have any dislike from the product as we are using it from last 5 years are very happy with the performance of product. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Well no doubt PAN products are very expensive products because of their best in class technology so first evaluate your business need and conduct POC, work on the ROI then decide you should go for PAN or not. In some scenarios Hardware products can not be deployed or not suited best e.g. cloud and areas where we do not have much space to have many hardware devices.
