"Rock-solid perimeter security with unmatched application visibility"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewalls?

Palo Alto’s App-ID and Threat Prevention engines give us granular control over traffic we never had with our previous stateful firewall. We can write policies around business apps instead of IP/port combos, then verify exactly what was allowed/blocked in the detailed logs. WildFire zero-day analysis has already caught two pieces of unknown malware in the last quarter, and the cloud signatures hit our gateways within minutes. Centralized management in Panorama is another highlight one commit pushes our rules to three sites, so audit time dropped from hours to minutes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewalls?

Licensing is pricey and can be confusing (Threat Prevention, WildFire, DNS Security, etc.). The web UI occasionally lags when committing large rule-set changes, and the learning curve for first-time admins is steep expect to spend time in the docs or take the EDU-210 course. Support is generally solid, but faster response requires the higher-tier contract. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Choosing something can be tough, as the setup process may seem overwhelming, particularly for newcomers. It’s also costly, with some features needing additional licenses that drive up the total cost. Nevertheless, once it’s operational, it performs effectively. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Strong Security: It's backed by Palo Alto's threat intelligence (WildFire, URL filtering, advanced threat protection).

Deep Integration with AWS: Ideal for companies heavily using AWS, as it simplifies deployment and scaling.

Centralized Management: Easy to manage through Palo Alto’s Panorama or native AWS integrations.

Scalable & Cloud-native: Works well in dynamic cloud environments with autoscaling and multi-VPC support. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewalls?

Cost: Premium pricing might be a factor for small businesses or startups.

Learning Curve: Might be complex for teams unfamiliar with Palo Alto systems or AWS networking.

Better alternatives for multi-cloud?: If you're not AWS-centric, other solutions like Check Point CloudGuard or Fortinet might be more appealing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"AI-Powered Threat Detection and Autonomous Real-Time Protection"
4/5
What do you like best about Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewalls?

By employing preemptive thread detection and autonomous real-time protection, Palo Alto Networks' Next-Generation Firewalls empower organizations to promptly identify and neutralize potential security breaches. This empowers them to optimize performance by prioritizing critical processes during startup, leading to significantly faster boot times. It also enables AI-driven analysis of system behavior right from the start. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewalls?

While the AI integration offers numerous benefits, a potential drawback is the lack of transparency. It's challenging to understand why traffic is blocked or threats flagged, creating a 'black box' effect, hindering trust and making auditing difficult. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"It's really good at protecting my data."
4.5/5
What do you like best about Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewalls?

The thing I liked the most is the pricing and policies that is based on the user activities. So, it means your are actually protecting our data. Which is also a drawback sometimes because we don't need all the security every time but should be enabled. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewalls?

I didn't face any issues but, your high end security level. that is enabling everything even if we don't use it all the time leads to slowing system and delays tasks, especially for low end systems. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Best GUI based NGFW Firewall"
5/5
What do you like best about Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewalls?

Palo Alto firewall is not just a firewall, it is more than a firewall. The best part of the firewall which I like most user friendly UI and robust firewall upgrade process which has 99.999% success rate. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewalls?

Well as such I don't have any dislike but yes some times when you work for small orgnization, you won't get chance to work on Palo Alto because it is bit costlier compare to other OEM's. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Managing the Attack Surface"
5/5
What do you like best about Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewalls?

Best thing about Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewalls is Transparency and AppID. Often times you'll find other vendors referencing max throughput which is measured in really strict conditions and/or without utilizing full security features on firewall. This is often times really misleading. When you look at PANW firewall throughput, it's measured while having all the beneficial services running. AppID is really mind blowing part of the Firewall. From Reducing the attack surface by approving exactly what is the bare minimum of necessary apps. (Firewall itself offloads this for you, using the Policy Optimizer) all the way to knowing the impact of using such applications. Generally, features by themselves are something that you expect from firewall to have, however the approach that was taken, Reducing the Attack surface, is really what makes the ZTNA possible. All the way from segmentation, continuously inspecting the traffic, only from specific users/groups, and only allowed applications is an unbeatable combination. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewalls?

I only dislike commit time, when you want to make a fast change and see result quickly, you must pass through commit that takes around 45 sec to complete. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
