  ### 7. My experience on Palo Alto Expedition Tool

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vishal V. | Network Security Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 20, 2022

**What do you like best about Palo Alto Expedition?**

My overall experience with the Palo Alto Expedition tool was very good. Few things which I like to highlight :
1. Expedition tool is used to migrate from other vendors to Palo Alto.
2. Via the Expedition tool, you can convert policy of other supported firewalls into Palo Alto
3. It saves from creating thousands of policies manually while migrating from another firewall to Palo Alto

**What do you dislike about Palo Alto Expedition?**

There are a few things that can be improved from Palo Alto side :
1. In my last migration project, I had to migrate from SECUI to Palo Alto, but Expedition supported a limited number of vendors.
2. It is not very accurate; we have to verify all the policies and objects manually
3. No direct installation file is available to install the Expedition tool on the local system.

**What problems is Palo Alto Expedition solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Expedition tool helps me a lot in migration projects. Nowadays, firewalls have thousands number of policies. When we migrate these policies to Palo Alto, creating policies manually is a very tough task. In this case, we use the Expedition tool to migrate from other vendors to Palo Alto. It saves a lot of time.

  ### 8. I have share some key features and some drawbacks of expedition tool which I have face in my past.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bhupender Y. | cybersecurity engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 16, 2022

**What do you like best about Palo Alto Expedition?**

The most likely feature of the Expedition tool is its very user-friendly interface and we can migrate the configuration of different vendors like checkpoint, Fortinet, cisco and Sophos to the Palo Alto firewall and also change the interface and some services as an application base like in checkpoint ping is available as a service but in Palo Alto, you can use as an application base like ICMP.

**What do you dislike about Palo Alto Expedition?**

The problem which I have faced regular basis is that it's a very advanced tool but still, it's not correct and you don't trust it blindly because many times some services mismatch and some nat policy configured in a wrong way and I think its accuracy during migration is approx 50-60% due to this you need to validate everything at least one time otherwise during GO-LIVE activity you will face many issues.

**What problems is Palo Alto Expedition solving and how is that benefiting you?**

From this, i have resolved the issue related to zone because our Palo Alto firewall is zone based firewall but checkpoint and some other firewalls don't support zone so during migration from checkpoint to Palo Alto expedition tool automatically changes the policy into zone base policy and after that, you can assign zone as per your requirement.

Also, you can separate some services as an application base with the help of the expedition tool.
