## PagerDuty Reviews
  ### 1. Helps us stay alert

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Government Administration | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 21, 2019

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

The rotating schedule feature is awesome. This allows us to not have to worry about changing the contact info each time.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

We really don't dislike any features. It helps us save time and we can easily resolve a feature via phone.

**Recommendations to others considering PagerDuty:**

This saves us a ton of time and effort each call rotation.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We used to have to change the contact info on a number we forwarded to someones cell each rotation. We now have that change automatically based on a call schedule.

  ### 2. Automation with Ease, Control, and Security

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 13, 2020

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

The ability to take customized and sometimes complex automation needs and put them within a UI that a semi-technical end user/customer can utilize. It gives you the ability to control what gets run, by whom, and how. Additionally, it gives you the ability to control access and audit who did what and when.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

It is difficult to build and use a clustered HA solution after you have already started utilizing the product in a non-clustered environment: a migration is essentially an entirely new implementation. Also keep in mind, Rundeck is a UI for automation, but it does not provide all of that custom automation. Your teams need to build the underlying scripts, make them efficient, and build the UI within Rundeck complete with editable fields, user access control, logging, and auditing.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Filling gaps in our custom product for internal reporting, and safe/secure DML/DDL automation in parallel with code deployments.

  ### 3. No much room for analysis attachments

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 14, 2022

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

UI is good, and light-weighted. Response time of website was good.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

No much room for analysis attachments. I am unable to add much analysis

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am getting server related alerts on time. That helps in keeping servers healthy always.

  ### 4. Rundeck for the Win

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Juwuan S. | Web Platform Engineer 2, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 06, 2021

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

Allowing users to schedule and run jobs later. The APIs and integration with apps such as Jenkins and pagerduty work nicely.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

Sometimes when bugs happen that break the general abilities of Rundeck not being communicated about it.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Having a central place to do deployments and benefits are logging, having error messages, and an audit trail for everything.

  ### 5. Pagerduty integrates easily

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer & Network Security | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 19, 2021

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

The large number of out-of-the-box integrations, the licensing model is also pretty good for small shops.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

The incident workflow could be easier to customize.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Allowing multiple people to respond to incidents and auto document the resolution.

  ### 6. Reliable, easy to use on-call notifications

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dallas B. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 29, 2020

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

PagerDuty provides us with a reliable, easy to use on-call system. It integrates easily with our existing monitoring stack(DataDog) and also with the ticketing and communication stack that we use(jira and slack) and provides all of the toolings that we needed to get up and running and bring new teams on board with little to no friction. While we haven't used the postmortem features much yet in our limited use of them they seem to be very well done and could be a great benefit to many teams especially ones that don't have an established template for postmortems.

An on-call rotation seems like an easy problem to solve when you look at it, you take an alert and you notify someone of that alert but when you start to dig in it becomes a much more difficult problem to solve. Scheduling on it's own is a significant problem to solve. PagerDuty makes all the deeper problems easy to solve.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

My only complaint about the product is that I believe the price to be a little high, once your on-call team numbers start to grow it can be a significant cost. That being said it is worth the money to be notified of outages before your customers become aware of them.

**Recommendations to others considering PagerDuty:**

We strongly recommend PagerDuty for your on-call needs, we haven't really had a need for PagerDuty that it didn't fulfill for us.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

PagerDuty solves what seems like a simple problem - notify someone about an outage - and make it seem that easy. Scheduling on-call rotations and teams, integrating with our existing monitoring stack takes what is actually a very difficult problem when you dig in and makes it seem like an easy problem from their solution.

  ### 7. Nice tool, but with a few key limitations

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Powers F. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 29, 2020

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

Notification system is top notch. Whether it's email, SMS, or phone call, PD gets it to you, and quickly!

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

The email integration lacks screenshot support. It's very limiting to having people create PagerDuty incidents, go to the trouble of creating, sometimes even annotating screenshots, only to have PagerDuty lose all that valuable diagnostic information when the incident is created.

The other main pain point is searching for a PagerDuty incident. There seems to be no search functionality other than by incident #. Many times you can't remember the incident #, but remember what the incident was about, or an error message you received. Unfortunately you can't search on any of that.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

High severity business critical functions are alerted on and the on-call engineers are notified pretty much instantly improving our responsiveness as a technology organization within our larger business. Issues are resolved quicker and our technology group is perceived as being more on-the-ball and quick to respond to issues.

  ### 8. Integration for success

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** William G. | Senior Systems Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 27, 2020

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

I really like the flexibility to modify teams, pagerduty alerting schedules, creating overrides in schedules, and granularity in how it handles alerting and escalation.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

With all the features and flexibility, at times it can be a bit difficult to keep track of everything. There is alot of configuration done in different locations and that can make new users trying to create integrations a bit difficult. With good documentation up front in terms of how your team has things configured, that should minimize this concern.

**Recommendations to others considering PagerDuty:**

PagerDuty has a lot of offer and has quite a few common integrations as well as email endpoints so its very versatile. Encourage you to try a POC against anything else you are considering. We have used in house solutions before and maintaining those became time consuming at previous companies.. My current company has used PagerDuty for well longer than I have worked here.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are monitoring our environments with a number of different software packages and we are able to bring them all into PagerDuty to handle alerting to our teams with the same configurations/integrations.

  ### 9. Using PagerDuty

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Subhash G. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 27, 2020

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

I love its integrability with many platforms. As a company we use an awful lot of different services and connected platforms, and it makes sense to have a platform agnostic service like pagerduty which allows us to connect to many different things together and give us alerts. I really like that no matter what platform our services are on such as AWS, Azure, or any other web service, I'm able to get alerts and integrate them very quickly into pagerduty and then if there are ever any incidents that arise I can trust that someone on my team will be able to address it quickly.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

Nothing, it's great! I haven't had an issue with it. We have had a great increase in our response time and time to completion for incidents that arise with any problems our customers might be having. Before using pagerduty, we weren't as quick to solve the issues because it would get confusing and burdensome for people that were mainly assigned to dealing with these problems. However now we are able to address these issues quickly and there is no confusion about who is responsible for what. The on-call scheduling system helps us deal with that quite a bit and I can't be more happy with how it has been. I have never had an issue with pagerduty and it has been great.

**Recommendations to others considering PagerDuty:**

I highly recommend pagerduty to any company or small team that needs to have good management for on-call scheduling and addressing support and production issues as they arise. Greatly clarifies which way to address issues and helps you plan and support your customers better. I've never had a single issue with page Duty and then make it really easy to deal with anything. It is seriously a silver bullet in the war against support tasks.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have lots of alerts that come in from our micro-service system, and it's great to have on-call scheduling to deal with those. We have a great system now for addressing problems that arise quickly. I love being able to use pagerduty for my phone and email, it is pretty great because whenever an incident arises in production environments or even in development environments, I'm able to quickly see what is the problem by looking at my device and getting an alert whenever I am on call. It's very clear to me that this software platform allows me to very quickly address incidents. For example I have had times where a production incident would happen at night time and if I'm on a call I'm able to see that something is happening, whereas if we didn't have a system in place for this, then I would basically never know until the next business day, which could be too late to address the issue. The on-call scheduling also makes it so that no one person on the team is overburdened by support issues. I also love being able to access the pagerduty platform in browser so then when I'm at my desk I can also address any tickets that have come up.

  ### 10. It has been Great IT Story , Rundeck Tool!!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nitin G. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 05, 2020

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

We have a unique need of automating IT process stuff , touchless deployment , automated and variety of daily use cases which we automate using Rundeck Jobs . This help us run Job remotely on servers and automated fashion . Great tool!!. Lots of supported plugins like Salt , Ansible that we leverage.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

We don't have an easy approval workflow supported in Rundeck which sometimes is issue. We can have integration with Jira or SNOW but not within Rundeck it self.

**Recommendations to others considering PagerDuty:**

We have been using Rundeck for sometime and it saves on cost , since there is a lot of automation that you can do . A specific use case for us is deployment of Infra that we do via Rundeck so user who don't have access to actual portal can Orchestrate job using Rundeck. IT automation tasks like running some schedule jobs can be triggered using Rundeck . You can have multiple projects which we can have different permission for different group using Rundeck's Security Policy adminstration .

Great tool to have in your automation Stack.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We don't like to provide teams access to Cloud Portal or SSH /RDP access but at the end they need to run some scripts or deployment which we have automated using Rundeck ,,Awesome !!.

  ### 11. The quickest and easiest way to set your team up on alerting.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mark F. | Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 20, 2019

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

PagerDuty's web interface is designed for ease of use, and quick onboarding. It's well known and reliable, the console is intuitive, and in my opinion is the king of incident response systems. Once I was given access to the console, it took less than 20 minutes for me to configure all the alerts I wanted for all my devices, learn how to navigate the system and administrate the system if necessary.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

The robotic voice that calls could be less cold and dry sounding. The interface could be more visually appealing.

**Recommendations to others considering PagerDuty:**

Look at all the features during your trial period. Sometimes when you feel like you won't be using a specific attribute of PagerDuty, you end up doing so and in so doing you increase the ROI on your subscription.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It just does what it says, period. Put in the legwork in integrating your monitoring systems and alerting on PagerDuty and you will be notified based on your events, anytime, anywhere.

  ### 12. Very useful to notify critical alerts in our environment

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sajith E. | SRE, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 03, 2020

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

Acknowledge the alert through phone calls and we can integrate the pager duty alerts to Microsoft Teams as well. Tha is really helpfull for us to acknowledge the incident.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

Some times acknowledge the alert by pressing #4 is not working

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

If there is a critical alert and if I'm set to on call for that week, I'm getting the alert through phone calls and messages as well. It easy for me to attend critical alerts and no need to monitor the system every time.

  ### 13. Help french company to deploy infrastructure and operate them

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 25, 2019

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

A right tool for specific standard operating procedure.
We love activity and activity time tracking
Being able to integrate several technologies (shell, python, ansible) in a single procedure
Good start sharing best practices
Support GIT and sharing jobs between several Rundeck

Easy to share jobs with import/export and GIT

Simple to understand use for operators

Tree view for all jobs to manage all jobs

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

Dashboard, statistics, advanced SOP involving several nodes
specific Configuration file per jobs and project missing
Missing GUI for hosts management
Missing publishing artefact per jobs
Missing tests and check in jobs (been able to test and report in specific steps (test steps)
Missing efficient multi node jobs
Missing configuration file per jobs
Separate project variable file for jobs

GIT project including ressources (files and configuration files)

**Recommendations to others considering PagerDuty:**

Start with simple jobs and build complex operations aggregating several job references.
Using database storage for config.
Using Git for jobs description storage.

Use API to manage calls (GUI is a good start, API is the edge of usage of Rundeck)

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Standardization of SOP in IT
Repetition of same good process without human interaction
Errorless proven operations
Easy to use and integrated by members of team
Credential management to access process
offer a operation as service to featured teams in Agile environment is priceless.

  ### 14. so far pagerduty works fine for us. one grip i have is the nagios calling pager duty via pd-nagios

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** alan l. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 26, 2020

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

-fairly flexible with call rotation and scheduling
-escalation is great (in fact that's why we got it in the first place)
-API call is a plus though we are not taking much advantage at the moment

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

-the price, at about 30 dollars per user its harder to convince to have more users on pager duty
-would like to see some sort of VoIP solution rolled into pager duty as well. right now we still have an on-call phone that if anyone from the company needs to reach us can call and that phone is rotated amongst the on-call group. Will be nice to have a single number that's tied to the escalation policy that will rotate just like the alerts, and when dial will ring on the pager duty app.

**Recommendations to others considering PagerDuty:**

ask yourself how important is getting these alerts. if it's critical Pagerduty is a strong option for alerting.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

we mainly use it for system alerts, monitoring our IT infrastructure. The escalation policy is nice and made sure we are not one deep in coverage.

  ### 15. Perfect Tool for Incident management

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 11, 2020

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

Integrations with external services. For example, Slack, email alerts, etc., Managing the shift schedule and overlapping without changing the original schedule, adding/removing the resources from the schedule, and analytics like ticket handled by each team and each user.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

Scheduling is quite complex for beginners, once we get to use to it, it will be easy work. To overcome this issue, if you have some video guide, that would be a real help.
Timezone issue on the schedule. For example, one engineer is in the GMT timezone and another engineer is in IST Timezone. But this shift schedule displaying a common timezone for every other location user. I would recommend adding the auto timezone deduction based on the location. And if user changes the timezone, layer is not changing accordingly. It will still show the same time. Let's say there is a layer, that starts from 8:00 am GMT to 1:00 pm GMT. if the user changes the time zone from GMT to IST, the layer also should change as per the IST time zone. Instead, it will still show as 8:00 am IST to 1:00 pm IST. This is a kind of overhead while defining the shift schedule at first.

**Recommendations to others considering PagerDuty:**

If you are managing 24x7 operations team, dont want to spend time on active monitoring, then PagerDuty is the right choice. If rightly integrate your setup and shift roaster, then your shift will be easier.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Reducing the system monitoring effect. Once we integrated with email alerts and slack, we will not miss any incidents. Mostly I have integrated PagerDuty for Teradata related issues. I have linked PagerDuty and Email for Teradata related alerts. And I have integrated with Slack Application. This helps the non-technical business users to raise the pagerDuty ticket with simple command.

  ### 16. Easy API to integrate with

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Airlines/Aviation | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 07, 2020

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

The API was very easy to integrate with custom applications. Was able to configure web hooks to have PagerDuty send programatic notifications as well. The documentation was very good and the documentation itself has the ability to perform test calls built into it.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

The mobile app and website offered some differences in features which is understandable. There were a few things that seemed to bypass work flows when done in the mobile app.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is used for on-call scheduling and integration with custom applications. The calendar enables anyone to see who is on call and what the full schedule is by service.

  ### 17. Convenient easy and reasonably priced

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospitality | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 28, 2020

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

Pager Duty is easy to setup and use, and most importantly - easy for our employees to understand. The training process is about 5 minutes, which is great

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

I wish they also offered a "live answering system", instead of only the option to leave a voicemail. I also very much dislike being billed yearly instead of monthly

**Recommendations to others considering PagerDuty:**

Just make sure that you don't purchase too many users, as you're paying for the entire year. Can get pricey if you don't pay attention.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use pager duty to handle after hours maintenance issues. The way it is setup, mainly the feature which allows us to roll over to other employees, eliminates the possibility of an emergency being ignored because the first person on call is busy doing something else.

  ### 18. Automation tool for continuous environments

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marco G. | System administrator & DevOps, Internet, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 26, 2019

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

Easily set up recurring and triggered jobs for your continuous integration systems and activities that require strict outcome checking. Make sure your workflow is running correctly and alert those responsible for specific tasks that unexpected results occured, so to proactively take measures.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

If in need of complex orchestrated flows, like running parallel and sequential tasks in the same job, you might have to look elsewhere. Initial configuration can be cumbersome, especially if your systems are on a intranet that for security reasons can't be accessed by the machine that is serving Rundeck.

**Recommendations to others considering PagerDuty:**

Make sure you understand Rundeck workflows and your current infrastructure allows you to make use of the way it handles tasks on machines.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We switched from a non-checked deploying and sync schedule to a well-defined schedule with strict outcome verification, leading to higher customer satisfaction and a more stable architecture. With Rundeck, we could make sure that business critical tasks were executed in the right order and taking the right steps to serve what the customer needed, getting rid both of issues they had had up until that moment and preventing future issues, derived from multiple systems being integrated with each other, from arising. In the occasion that unexpected results occured, be it due to software errors or temporary unavailability of the integrated services, those responsible of the running tasks can now be alerted so that the right measures can be taken to make sure no interruption happens.

  ### 19. Great core, but rough around the edges

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Justin S. | System Administrator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 25, 2019

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

Installing scheduled tasks in Rundeck, rather than individual servers, helps to centralize operations. Being able to develop forms to handle common IT tasks cuts down on our support volume - considerably, in some cases - and additionally provides an audit log. In all, it enables a greater level of transparency and access, and I'm a huge fan of the "IT self-service panel" concept.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

Rundeck's ACL system is powerful and granular but needlessly complex. It should be possible to assign or edit permissions using a graphical interface. There is currently no way to automatically clean out old job runs, so you either cobble something together yourself or let runs perpetually accumulate.

**Recommendations to others considering PagerDuty:**

If you're trying to use Rundeck for a specific purpose, see if there's a purpose-built tool that you can use. Rundeck is a good general-purpose tool, but it may not be the best for very specific use cases.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I originally deployed Rundeck for use with my Ansible playbooks. At the time, Ansible Tower was a proprietary product without an open source equivalent. Over time, I found additional uses for it. For instance, I created a Project that lets our customer support agents add phone numbers to the phone system's blacklist without going through me.

After Red Hat acquired Ansible, it released AWX, an open source upstream for Ansible Tower, which I've begun using in place of Rundeck. AWX features deeper integration with Ansible playbooks, and the interface is, on the whole, a bit cleaner. There aren't quite so many options that I'll never use as there are with Rundeck. AWX is also written in Python, which I much prefer to Rundeck, which uses Java.

For me, AWX improves on Rundeck's annoyances enough that I plan to phase Rundeck out. However, for those who don't rely on Ansible so heavily, Rundeck is still a good product. There's nothing else quite like it - capable of running quite a lot, commercially sponsored, and open source.

But is it my first pick when given the choice of more specialized alternatives? No.

  ### 20. Delegate IT process to development departments

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Esther C. | IT Team Lead, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 25, 2019

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

I love give development department the ability to be autonomous, and make them able to deploy environments by their own.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

I don't like the user interface of Rundeck it is really old-style.
It is not really intuitive

**Recommendations to others considering PagerDuty:**

It makes easy for IT deparments delegate some tasks to other internal deparments, like development or QA teams, for instance deploy releases to preproduction or staging environments.
It makes easy to deploy automatic and iterative tasks on several hosts, allowing to group them and making easier boring maintance tasks.
These two features, makes than IT deparment, could dedicate more time to innnovate or find additional improvements, in place of doing task that can be delegated to other

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Give developer teams the chance to be autonomous,
These tasks were done before by IT department, so now we have more time for other tasks, such focus on CI/CD

  ### 21. Good support scheduling

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 24, 2020

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

Scheduling of support by group and department. Integrates well with a wide variety of systems

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

Has incident management and other services but some are additional addons.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Scheduling of team for supporting services

  ### 22. Definitely will recommend the PagerDuty to friends or colleagues!

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

The product's seamless experience is the best thing.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

I do not recollect anything that I did not like.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use the Pagerduty for alerting us when the product goes offline or unresponsive.

  ### 23. Excellent service

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 26, 2020

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

Reliability and functionality across devices

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

It can be a bit of an effort to get some of the integrations working as expected.

**Recommendations to others considering PagerDuty:**

It is fairly easy to get a trial setup enough to prove its value. Take the time to explore all of the features.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Team notification and outage response have improved significantly and are much more efficient than a past system of email alerts.

  ### 24. Automate the tasks as much as possible

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michaël C. | DevOps - DBA, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 25, 2019

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

Rundeck UI is easy to use and understand.
Using the fine grained ACLs you can let your users access only what they need to.
I also like the way you can follow workflows during execution.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

The main downside of Rundeck is the difficulty to change temporarily the steps of jobs using for example calendar constraints.

**Recommendations to others considering PagerDuty:**

Rundeck is easy to handle. Consider splitting your complex processes into simpler parts : this will be implemented as jobs in Rundeck which may contain steps, It's up to you.
Anyway, Rundeck is powerfull enough to cover a lot of needs : deploy, CI, self service scripts, commands... you'd rather give it a try.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Rundeck to automatize as many process as possible. Among them :
- deploying to production our apps
- refreshing data accross environments
- starting / stopping apps

We also use it on a daily-basis in our exploitation team to fix known issues.

  ### 25. This is Good tool for Automation

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gopal K. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 15, 2020

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

I liked this tool because its good for every automation thats required.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

There is nothing for dislike it. as you much know automation u can do.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Solving manager users / create new users / reset password, all management task for Active Directory.

  ### 26. Experience with Rundeck

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Banking | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 12, 2019

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

Ease of Use. Every organization need a tool which can provide the following:

1. Allow sysadmins to do their daily Administration work easily.
2. Allow easy and quick Automation.

And Rundeck provides these two functionality.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

Basic Authentication mechanism which is saving the servers list with hostname & username in config file. For a organization where everyday new servers are getting provisioned this is a headache. I know we can chef or salt plugin to automate this but those two plugins doesn't have very good documentation like how to handlesalt return response parsers etc. because of which very hard to implement and unfortunately rundeck support is also not very helpful when you approach to them how to implement it.

https://online.rundeck.com/plugins/salt-step-plugin
https://online.rundeck.com/plugins/chef-nodes

The above plugins are comunity plugins and they must be rundeck official plugins with good tutorial on how to implement these.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Daily automation with powershell or shell script run by rundeck on the target vms.

  ### 27. Excellent and simple to deploy

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Emanuel O. | System Administrator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 25, 2019

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

The simplicity to schedule new workflow and the variety of plugins.
WE use it for ansible, Backup process and retention and to manage all the other operations before managed with crontabs

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

The bad history manage options, you can't set the maximum age of jobs you want to keep. By this way, you 'll use a lot of stoarge on the DB's server and the Rundeck's server becuse of the logs.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The scheduling of backup jobs, crontabs without control or error notification.
By this way we have semplified the control and updates of every job and process.

  ### 28. Rundeck user for 3 years

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 19, 2020

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

The visualization of complex jobs.
The nodes bank that supports labels

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

Very hard to do argument passing between jobs (output from 1 job to be input to the 2nd job).
Very hard to understand the permissions each group have

**Recommendations to others considering PagerDuty:**

Very good tool
Very intuative

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It solves a complex logics with error handling, it solves a long roll-out for thousands of hosts

  ### 29. Overall good product

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 25, 2019

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

The most useful part of Rundeck is that it is user-friendly enough that somewhat non-technical users are able to create and adminster their own scheduled jobs.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

I wish there was a way to see an overview of scheduled jobs, perhaps a calendar view that displays the upcoming jobs. There are times when I would like to perform server maintenance, but it's difficult to determine when the next window of non-scheduled jobs would occur.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before implementing Rundeck, users were logging directly into the server and creating their own cron jobs. This began to cause maintenance (not to mention security) issues. By providing a relatively simple web application to allow running jobs, it has simplified my life as an administrator.

  ### 30. Great for on call scheduling

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 02, 2020

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

Schedules are represented well in the GUI. There are multiple features under schedules but one the well thought is the ability to override schedules.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

The robotic voice on the pager call that reads the message which can be difficult to understand sometimes. I think it can be done better.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Using PD for on call pagering of our production system issues.

  ### 31. Great upgrade from windows task scheduler

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 27, 2019

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

Rundeck helps us schedule, coordinate and monitor scheduled tasks across multiple target machines and various departments with a central UI.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

The hardest part of setting up rundeck was getting the winrm nodes to execute tasks successfully. Running tasks on windows "nodes'" is totally possible, but seems to be a less common use case than others. It requires a winrm plugin and the documentation seems thorough, but never quite works right without some fiddling/experimentation in my (somewhat limited) experience.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Like any small IT group in a growing organization, our scheduled tasks and cron jobs were starting to accumulate and 'sprawl' across many machines and operating systems. It can easily become an unruly mess to maintain if not well documented and monitored. Rundeck solves this for us by putting a (very) nice UI front end on tasks that can be scheduled are run on various machines from a single location, and reports status/failures in a user friendly way so even non-technical users can monitor or execute existing jobs.

  ### 32. Nice incident management platform to have for your business

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mauricio S. | Full Stack Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 04, 2019

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

The things I like the most about PagerDuty are that this software provides a set of useful notifications and it escalate automatically. It is full of functionalities destined to help our company detect and fix infrastructure problems quickly, promoting an instantaneously alert when an incident happens and detailed info about it.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

I think it is a little bit expensive. It is also hard to understand and configure at first, its learning curve is not so pronounced.

**Recommendations to others considering PagerDuty:**

I think this is a great support tool to have. I recommend to configure it order to only get proper info about only high priority incidents, otherwise you will end having a ton of notification emails.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use at the company to monitor incidents that are critical and need full attention when they happen. Also, to manage those incidents and act fast to solve them.

  ### 33. Rundeck is very good for operations

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 14, 2020

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

Especially Plugins which really really helpful for configuration management and daily operations

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

Not supporting for Cloud deployments and also limited plugins availability for cloud.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Daily operations like deployments etc.

  ### 34. Rundeck- operational tasks execution in just few clicks

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 15, 2020

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

Ability to manage tasks and simplified execution. Helps ops team to automate repeated tasks and enables team to focus more on product engineering

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

User Interface could be improved for better user experience

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have several task which are repetitive in nature, Rundeck helped to automate them and execute them in under few clicks whenever needed and increased turn around time

  ### 35. A quick review on Enterprise Rundeck usage

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 13, 2019

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

Rundeck scales up to dispatch commands/jobs to multiple number of nodes at a time and it provides shilding at project level to separate enviroments. It has good HA clustering options. Easy usage and vault option.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

Rundeck does not have approval mechanism like in Jenkins.
Dashboarding on ROI could have been better.
User management from AD goops should have been simpler

**Recommendations to others considering PagerDuty:**

add more features in comparison with Jenkins

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Rundeck can automate any sort of enterprise operational works such as Building infra, Setting up services,Environments and Managing deployments etc,.

  ### 36. Very good experience

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 02, 2019

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

The best is the simplicity, documentation and easy configuration.
Very rarely I came across a bug and got a quick reply when reporting it.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

The listing of nodes that is selected when running a job is good but would could be improved. A way of grouping them would be good (based on a tag or a new node property field for example) .

**Recommendations to others considering PagerDuty:**

The benefits for automation are very high for the small amount administrative cost to maintain Rundeck in your infrastructure.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This was really helpful for the 2nd level support that was able to automate some routine work on the systems.
It was also useful to shutdown applications that spawn across multiple servers.

  ### 37. Does what you'd expect but not better than the competition

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Real Estate | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 25, 2019

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

PagerDuty was very easy to move to and integrate with slack. For my organization, the slack integration was a must.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

It's more expensive and has a less verbose feature set than OpsGenie. For my organization, the move to OpsGenie has empowered better customized alert management that scales across the diverse needs of our organization.

**Recommendations to others considering PagerDuty:**

Check out the full landscape. While it will function well enough, there are better options out there that may cost your organization less money.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

1) The ability for operations people to quickly be paged after-hours about production alarms.
2) Product teams have the freedom to rotate alert management according to whatever system they want to use (goalie, etc). We can also silence these after-hours for teams that are not on call.

  ### 38. We automate and Rundeck Orchestrates

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nitin G. | Cloud Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 12, 2019

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

We have been using Rundeck with Salt Module for everything. Deploying ARM temaplates, Terraform, Chef policy update, Domain Password resets etc for our daily IT automation and we are able to . Thanks ton Rundeck Team.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

I don't think I dislike anything about it.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are able to Orchestrate daily jobs like password resets, Chef Policy update, ARM template deployment. So user doesn't have access to real environment and password but Rundeck helps users to achieve end goal.

  ### 39. product, feature release and support

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Deepak T. | Cloud Engineer, Information Technology and Services, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 15, 2019

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

Strong feature rich product helping automation except rigid and stiff on certain features. Easy installation and maintenance.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

tiny and least help full documentation specially on product upgrade 3.1.0 to 3.1.2 (my experience). Untested product release of 3.1.2 version. I had to spend almost two weeks to figure out workaround that to reading Rundeck .db files. (WebHook objects creation on MSSQL database had a wrong field type).

**Recommendations to others considering PagerDuty:**

NA

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Automation of azure resource maintenance, state management.

  ### 40. Nice Tool

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 13, 2019

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

Ability to compose small chunks of operational tasks into multiple uselful workflows. Gives security, repeatability and visibilty of operations that have been done..

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

it's a little buggy. New releases tend to have quite a few issues especially. best to wait for a few minor versions each time.

**Recommendations to others considering PagerDuty:**

Give it a go, easy startup.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Generic deployment to thousands of servers globally. Automating rollout of software, rundeck does the heavy lifting of connectivity and audit.

  ### 41. Safeguard for our system

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Victor P. | Test Automation Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 24, 2019

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

PagerDuty is an efficient way of doing the alerting when it is required to collect the data from a few sources and notify only the relevant persons via the means those people prefer.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

Sometimes, it feels like PagerDuty is meant for big corporations with many teams/departments where the incident process is complicated. Building something really simple is not possible or obvious and requires thinking of the play scenarios in the terms of a big company.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Pagerduty provides a vital part for our system making a bridge between automated monitoring and us humans. Being a small company, we could not afford having a dedicated team of Operations who keeps an eye on the system. Instead, we invested some time building several layers of monitors that all are integrated into Pagerduty. PagerDuty then do the rest---Collects the alerting data and notifies only the relevant people giving them the relevant data to react.

  ### 42. Rundeck has replaced mostly crontab jobs in important areas

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 25, 2019

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

Rundeck collects logs from all tasks and informs me in case of problems with their execution - this is crucial in the case of archiving tasks

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

I miss simple instructions on how to comprehend WinRM, file copying and debugging

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Rundeck will allow you to perform tasks reliably, thanks to which I spend less time analyzing and browsing logs.

  ### 43. Great product with a few quirks

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2019

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

The best thing is that it just works..
We integrate PD(thats what we call Pagerduty) with service now and though there are few glitches in it, it works for the most part and more than anything it just works and serves the purpose.
I loved it when the TV show Silicon Valley mentions about Pagerduty :) It was amazeballs.

And the number of alerting channels such as phone, sms and email and everything that is there so that we dont miss the alert is awesome.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

I don't like it when it wakes my up at 4 AM in the morning. lol. JK.
its not that I dont like this.. but it would have been a good thing to have the way to test the integrations. In case of AWS integration, we had a trouble checking if the webhook was invoked or not. Would be good to have some logs to see them, or is it something thats there.. but I am not aware of?

**Recommendations to others considering PagerDuty:**

Its a great tool that makes your life very easy, be it a dev or a systems guy or a admin.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Its great to know immediately that your servers have gone kaput in prod the moment something goes wrong.

  ### 44. So far so good

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Justin W. | System Administrator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 21, 2019

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

We have several different types of monitors / integrations that we use and they all work very well from the pager duty side.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

I dislike how not all features available to the web ui are available via the app. For example, I do not know how to set maintenance windows from the app. I acknowledge that the app can never be feature complete to the web ui. But those particular features would be very handy to do

**Recommendations to others considering PagerDuty:**

Look for integrations with productions that you already use. More than likely, there is some form of integration that can happen to make the product immediately viable.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have monitoring on our production servers via an integration with a long aggregation tool. We also have monitors on external calls via a 3rd party SAS service that informs us when our site does not respond. Having the ability to integrate to multiple sources of monitoring and alert from one service is very handy.

  ### 45. PagerDuty at Climate

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Luke S. | IT Support Specialist, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 21, 2019

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

I love the iOS app. One of the most used features at Climate is the multiple accounts. We share a device for on-call support rotation, and it's nice to have my account already there. Most settings are available on the mobile app, which is a plus as well.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

The web interface is slightly clunky. When removing access, there are several links to projects, on-call schedules, etc., which makes it difficult to remove one person. I understand the need, however, there should be an option to force removal, especially if the user is the only one on a schedule. Something like, "Are you sure? This will remove ____"

**Recommendations to others considering PagerDuty:**

When removing a user, there should be an option to force removal, especially if the user is the only one on a schedule. Something like, "Are you sure? This will remove ____"

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We like the notification options; phone call, SMS, and app. This helps us resolve issues quickly, and alert team members easily. The Slack integration is also amazing; super useful.

  ### 46. CI-CD HANDY

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** ASHUTOSH P. | SYSTEM ENGINEER, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 25, 2019

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

THE ABILITY TO ADD CUSTOM PLUGINS AS PER NEED AND REQUIREMENTS
THE NODES CONCEPT , AND ENHANCERS

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

REAL-TIME UPDATE OF UI IS NOT AVAILABLE
THE PROPERTIES FILE DOES NOT GET PROPERLY UPDATED FROM THE UI

**Recommendations to others considering PagerDuty:**

GIVE IT A TRY ONCE IT HAS CAPABILITIES TO FIT INTO DIFFERENT ENVIRONMENTS TO ORCHESTRATE SCENARIOS

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

ORCHESTARTION ,
CI-CD
SCHEDULERS

  ### 47. Works well, but had cavets with Python scripts

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marlon A. | SAP Concur Integration Technical Consultant, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 05, 2019

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

Intuitive, clean interface, highly customizable.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

Recurring issues with locally executed python scripts that kept running in the background
even after the rundeck job was killed, causing multiple runs to happen concurrently.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm no longer using rundeck due to the issue I mentioned previously, we have migrated to Jenkins.

  ### 48. Simple and powerful automation tool!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Deepak J. | Product Owner, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2019

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

Ability to interact with the params via shell as env variables.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

Plugins are limited to certain endpoints. For example, I cannot use git plugin for our internal git implementation but only for github.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Automation of routine tasks. Runlists automation for repetitive work done by humans. We also use it for reporting on periodic basis.

  ### 49. Ease of use for jr admins

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Oil & Energy | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 25, 2019

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

Open Source and highly configurable. We can make scripts for whatever we need.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

Interface could be better. As you see in my screen shot it is currently broken on chrome in macOS

**Recommendations to others considering PagerDuty:**

Organize your scripts and make one script for every action so it is portable.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

User creation in our environment

  ### 50. Good but flawed

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 04, 2019

**What do you like best about PagerDuty?**

Once setup allows for some pretty cool uses. We use it for patching our systems across multiple clouds all from a button press.

**What do you dislike about PagerDuty?**

Stringing together jobs is really tedious. It is not straightforward for sending output from one job to another. It is much easier to write that logic into a script.

I also wish that rundeck supported branching logic, versus a singular flow.

**What problems is PagerDuty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use it to patch systems, and run specific commands (such as rescuing a system that loses ldap connectivity)
