The merchant of record concept is valuable in theory — handling global tax compliance, VAT, and payment processing in one platform is exactly what SaaS founders need. Undisclosed approval requirements that make it impossible for new businesses to get approved. After a week in their onboarding process — fixing my refund policy within 14 minutes of their request, answering a detailed questionnaire — they rejected me because I don't have 3 months of payment processing history. This requirement is nowhere on their website, not in their help docs, not during signup. You can't get processing history without a processor, and they won't be your processor without history. I attempted to use Paddle as my merchant of record for a new B2B SaaS launch. Despite having everything in order — registered company, GDPR-compliant policies, DPA, clear refund terms, instant digital delivery — they rejected my application for not having prior payment processing history. They don't disclose this requirement anywhere, so I wasted over a week in their approval process before being told I never qualified. I've been using Paddle for about 5 years. The old version was a bit clunky & the dashboard was broken for a long time, without any fixes or updates for years. The new Paddle Billing API is much nicer. There is very little included out of the box but the API is comprehensive, so you can achieve most things yourself. They're doing one single thing (handling payments) if that's all you need they may be a good fit. Simple payouts, no third-party. The new dashboard and UI is a huge improvement. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Paddle? The support is completely unresponsive, with simple questions taking up to 5 days to get an answer. When contacting you are shown a message saying "Our Customer Support team is currently experiencing a high volume of inquiries.." but don't be fooled: that message has been there for the entire 5 or so years I've used them. They have an AI assistant but it frequently gives incorrect information, e.g. it told me there was no way to do refunds on Paddle Billing, which would obviously be insane. Again, 3 days to get a confirmation that wasn't the case. Paddle Billing overlay checkouts appear broken on IOS Safari. Tested on multiple sites & using their own developer docs code. I reported this 7 days ago & am still waiting for an initial acknowlegement. It doesn't fill me with confidence to run my business on this platform. Update: It's now been 19 days & the checkout is still broken. 1 week ago I got a confirmation that the bug exists, but nothing since. When I posted this review I got a reply within hours. I've been using Paddle for a bout 5 years, to handle billing, sales tax/VAT compliance. For that it works very well. Previously they had other features, like affiliate support & split payments, which are gradually removed from the platform. This was unfortunate as I depended on all of these, and removing them made things more complicated. The new Billing API is much better however. We find the Paddle service to be very convenient in the terms of simple integration, Paddle API, the option of creating flexible payment plans. The user interface of working with a specific subscripton is also convenient and simple. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Paddle? There are several points that can be improved, and they're as follows: - there is no filter option in the Change Plan dropdown. You have to look for the needed plan manually among a thousand of plans - there is no option to archive the old plans while some of the clients are still subscribed to them - during the creation of the coupon, there is no option to apply it to more than a thousand of plans. You get the following error: “ Unknown: Input variables exceeded 1000. To increase the limit change max\_input\_vars in php.ini. in” - the option of adding a payment plan via the API is in fact useless, as you can't add a logo to the plan in this way, so we have to do it manually - each time after you edit a payment plan, you get redirected to the first page, and it complicates the process big time - there is no option of sorting Subscription Plans by date - from the latest to the oldest or even alphabetically Thus it is, in fact, impossible for a marketing manager to work with subscription plans via the internal Paddle interface. Moreover, Paddle unexpectedly announced that they're going to close the affiliate split feature at the peak of marketing and holiday season. All last year we spent a lot of time and efforts to onboard about 1500 affiliates to scale the turnover of the program. It is really unexpected and frustrating. We're actively working on improving our Subscription Billing functionality, with some big upgrades coming this year. We will take your suggestions into account as we continue to develop our platform. Near the end of last year, we communicated the decision to terminate Paddle’s Affiliates and Split Funds features in early 2023. We did not take this decision lightly. It’s not a core part of our product offering and since we have not focused our resources on maintaining and improving these features they have become subpar when compared to the affiliates industry. We appreciate that you, and others, have been drawing value from these features, so we worked closely with some third-party affiliate platforms (Rewardful and FirstPromoter) to ensure easy integration with Paddle. Paddle failed to resond to an email in a timely fashion and cost their client money because of negligence and poor management. I have a rule: If I am trying to give a business money for service and paddle cant even manage to process a payment it proves incompetence. I have used the paddle the first payout was on time but when it comes to the big amount they had suspended the account for no reason and held my money for over 6 months and finally when it comes to releasing the funds they end up sending in some unknown company account which was kind of no sense thing for me. paddle had my account details on which they have transferred the funds the first time then how come they end up transferring the funds to the unknown account. the best part is they will never respond back to your email when they found it was there own mistake. After asking if my business was okay, we started integrating Paddle on our website. After one day of processing, they cancelled our account saying our business was finally not okay.
