## packagecloud Reviews
  ### 1. Packagecloud facilitates large-scale deployment of my open source projects.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 04, 2023

**What do you like best about packagecloud?**

I maintain three popular open source projects, including an ISO/ITU-T reference implementation of the JPEG standard that is used by tens of thousands of developers and billions of end users every day as well as high-performance remote display software that is used by numerous corporations and academic institutions. packagecloud provides a convenient, stable, easy to use platform for hosting official RPM and DEB packages built from the releases of my software, which facilitates large-scale deployment. I particularly like the command line interface, which makes it possible to automatically push new packages to packagecloud whenever I push a new release.

**What do you dislike about packagecloud?**

The command line interface could use more features, such as an rsync-like feature that pushes only the changed packages from a specified set of files or a directory, the ability to list all packages (and their metadata) currently hosted in a repository, etc.

**What problems is packagecloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I was previously using a file hosting site to self-manage a YUM repository, but that required me to update the metadata manually, and I wasn't able to host an APT repository for my many Ubuntu users.

  ### 2. It is very easy to have the repos there

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Carlos R. | Senior Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 13, 2022

**What do you like best about packagecloud?**

You only upload your deb or rpm, and the repo will be created automatically.

* The UI is easy to use
* It provides scripts for installing the repos in your machine.
* The price is fair

**What do you dislike about packagecloud?**

* Sometimes, the repo takes time to refresh.
* They don't have 2FA, and for me is critical, someone could upload a fake package into my repo

**What problems is packagecloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have a bunch of Linux distros that need their repo for customized packages. Package cloud gives me a full service for the repo without worrying about maintain a repo

  ### 3. Does the job

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Giorgio O. | Senior Director Engineering - Data Science Innovation, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 10, 2022

**What do you like best about packagecloud?**

It has been working for us seamlessly for at least 10 years. We've never had an outage nor security issues or data losses of any kind. Billing is clear and timely. No regrets

**What do you dislike about packagecloud?**

With the move to the cloud, the various providers have alternatives to packagecloud which makes it basically obsolete as a standalone offering so we have been progressively moving out to reduce the number of services and partnerships we manage.

**What problems is packagecloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Storage or RPMs and other legacy artefacts which used to require an on-prem package-manager setup. However this can now easily be done directly in GitHub, AWS or Azure

  ### 4. Easy to use apt package repo for open source projects

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Networking | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 04, 2021

**What do you like best about packagecloud?**

The packagecloud API and CLI tool are both easy to use and integrate with a CI, such as GitHub Actions, for automatically publishing built packages for users to install via a package management tool (apt/dnf).

The packagecloud web UI is also an easy way to run one off actions, such as promoting packages from a testing/staging repo to a production repo.

**What do you dislike about packagecloud?**

A nice addition would be a way to prune old package versions in a repo from the web UI, or the ability to set a retention policy on how many old versions should be kept.

Currently we use the API to achieve this behaviour, as described in this blog post: https://blog.packagecloud.io/api/2015/07/06/pruning-packages-using-the-API/

**What problems is packagecloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Packagecloud allows us to publish new versions of our open source project directly to users when a new release is built.

  ### 5. Great service to host your repository with some space for improvements

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 20, 2022

**What do you like best about packagecloud?**

Compelling and easy-to-use service. The documentation is good, the provided scripts help you greatly in the package upload and repo installation. And if you write to them the support is excellent, they try their best to accommodate all your requests.

**What do you dislike about packagecloud?**

They do not accept Paypall as a payment system. Those will help automate the payment and directly connect the company bank account to simplify the taxes document collection since we are in the EU zone.
A lot of mail for review requests.

**What problems is packagecloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Since we are a small company with packagecloud we do not have to handle our own repository server. This way, we can focus more on the actual code for our product.

  ### 6. A simple way to get Linux repos

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dmitriy A. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2023

**What do you like best about packagecloud?**

Simple to use and manage. Removes the need of self-hosting binaries.

**What do you dislike about packagecloud?**

Some CI templates to build rpm/deb packages would be helpful

**What problems is packagecloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It makes distribution and updates of a CLI tool easy

  ### 7. Packagecloud is powerful package hosting at the right price.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Industrial Automation | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2022

**What do you like best about packagecloud?**

There's quite a lot to like about packagecloud:
* comprehensive, well-written documentation
* powerful, well-organized API
* a nice CLI tool
* supports Debian packages (both binary and source, one of the few vendors in this space to do so)
* excellent support via email and slack

**What do you dislike about packagecloud?**

* In the early days, there were some bugs in and around some of the darker corners of the Debian policy on package repositories. I pursued some bug reports and they were addressed.
* The CLI tool is implemented in ruby (not my first language) and requires a runtime I don't usually install.
* The non-SSO authorization is token-centric which might be a bad fit for some.

**What problems is packagecloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The problem statement is simple: How do I distribute my private and/or proprietary software artifacts to those that need them?

The solution brought by Packagecloud allows me to publish, host, and distribute my artifacts in a straightforward manner with all the specificity and granularity that I desire.

  ### 8. Outstanding developer support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bernie C. | Software Engineer Lead, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 08, 2022

**What do you like best about packagecloud?**

When we were just getting started with the product, the team hopped on a call with us to get a better understanding of our needs and offered to help tailer custom packages to meet our developer needs. The team is extremely responsive for support and the platform has exceeded our expectations, would highly recommend it.

**What do you dislike about packagecloud?**

The API is somewhat limited right now but has all the capabilities we need so it isn't restrictive.

**What problems is packagecloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They automate the process of managing and distributing Debian packages for us, saving a lot of time and manpower we had planned to use to set up the process ourselves.

  ### 9. One stop shop to manage all your packages

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Hardware | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2022

**What do you like best about packagecloud?**

Packagecloud supports a good variety of packages and languages.

**What do you dislike about packagecloud?**

User management has room to improve. We have to add individual users as collaborators. There is no restriction on username. Hard to tell who is who when people gets creative on their username.

**What problems is packagecloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Providing a publicly available repository

  ### 10. Simplify and extend the reach of your software distribution with PackageCloud.io

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Raciel H. | Senior Consultant Workload Automation, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 23, 2022

**What do you like best about packagecloud?**

The simplicity and scope of PackageCloud.io is remarkable. You can package and distribute your applications for most Linux distributions regardless of the programming language you use. The options for continuous integration is also very complete. The website for management has a high integration ratio with the user experience, which makes it nice and easy to use. On the other hand, the documentation is simple, complete and very concise. I would like to point out that the Free subscription is very generous.

**What do you dislike about packagecloud?**

At this point, I'm digging a little bit. As an extra functionality, I would like the platform to provide options to help give visibility and promote your packages in different ecosystems.

**Recommendations to others considering packagecloud:**

PackageCloud is definitely an excellent product and I recommend its use at all levels to facilitate software distribution.

**What problems is packagecloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use PackageCloud to store and distribute my software packages in the cloud and thus simplify deployment on local servers in different environments (productive and pre-productive). All my customers know where to find a stable version of the product and PackageCloud facilitates the installation and update of applications. The main gain derived from the use of PackageCloud is security, reliability and agility in the deployment of components.

  ### 11. Amazing support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 11, 2022

**What do you like best about packagecloud?**

Simple, easy-to-use product. API and CLI enable package upload through automated CI/CD processes.
A feature request I submitted received an immediate response and I was able to schedule a meeting with support and engineering to further define my request and identify possible interim solutions.

**What do you dislike about packagecloud?**

To support multiple versions of the same OS, I have to upload a package multiple times (Debian Buster, Bullseye, etc.).
Each separate repository requires a unique token; customers with access to multiple repositories require multiple tokens.

**What problems is packagecloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Simple cloud-hosted package delivery service. Easy-to-use CLI is incorporated into our automated CI/CD pipeline, enabling developers and engineers to focus on other tasks.

  ### 12. User Experience

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** tsai l. | software engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about packagecloud?**

PackagCloud is a great piece of software, and it's great for enterprises and open-sourcers to set up a working repository in just a few minutes.Different from competitors, only packagecloud is available on some services to maintain exclusivity.

**What do you dislike about packagecloud?**

Packagecloud is great. We love everything about it.For packagecloud no projects I can't work.More and better services and structures can be launched to make users feel better.

**Recommendations to others considering packagecloud:**

Packagecloud is great.

**What problems is packagecloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Packagecloud can easily deploy package repositories, let users get started quickly, and provide everything needed for open source projects to give users a better experience.

  ### 13. Easiest Debian repo I’ve found

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 09, 2022

**What do you like best about packagecloud?**

Easy creation of Debian repository. Any other solution requires going through many steps or details, resulting in a poor result anyway.

**What do you dislike about packagecloud?**

Packages can be moved, but not stay in 2 repos. For example, staging and production.

**What problems is packagecloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Private Debian repositories for our internal software packages.

  ### 14. Packagecloud Microsoft Review

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gürkan . | Software Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 23, 2022

**What do you like best about packagecloud?**

Installation is easy. Both adding new package and installation is easy

**What do you dislike about packagecloud?**

I can not list the packages by date after search

**What problems is packagecloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Package installation repo for ur packages. Our packages are community

  ### 15. a convenient and easy to use package provider

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 10, 2022

**What do you like best about packagecloud?**

ability to store packages for different operating system versions (ubuntu focal, xenial, etc) and different kinds of packages (deb, py wheels, etc)

**What do you dislike about packagecloud?**

finding names of packages and searching through all the versions available

**What problems is packagecloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

hosting packages conveniently

  ### 16. Best experience to quickly set up a package repository

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Borja L. | Jefe de Área de Sistemas, Comunicaciones, Explotación y CAU, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 06, 2021

**What do you like best about packagecloud?**

It's easy, quick and effective.

I have prior experience with Bintray, Artifactory and PackageCloud is by far the easiest of them. In just a few minutes, you have what you want: a working repository easy to set up for users. The website is plenty of documentation and it guides you through all the process.

For businesses and open-sourcers it's great.

**What do you dislike about packagecloud?**

Having deb and rpm repositories it would be great having repositories for other distributions like Archlinux or Gentoo.

**What problems is packagecloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm a hobbyist developer. I needed a free debian repository to host packages for my apps. PackageCloud solves that with an easy to set up repository with every option I need and a great support.

  ### 17. Neat Dashboard/UI. Great package installation instructions. Great support.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 06, 2022

**What do you like best about packagecloud?**

I like the auto-generated package installation docs the best

**What do you dislike about packagecloud?**

The lack of detailed drill-down metrics which can detail to stats of an individual package.

**What problems is packagecloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

it takes aways the pain of hosting package repos

  ### 18. Making package repositories simple

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ed W. | Commiter/Co-founder, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 20, 2021

**What do you like best about packagecloud?**

Packagecloud makes deploying package repositories simple. I am the TSC Chair of the FD.io Open Source Project. We publish deb and rpm packages as part of both our CI and release process for VPP (Vector Packet Processing) and other subprojects. Packageclouds easy to use API made integrating into our CI process easy and enjoyable. The breadth of language bindings allowed us to fit packagecloud into our process rather than molding our process to packagecloud. Prior to using packagecloud we'd tried other tools, like Nexus, for artifact hosting but they were a nightmare to work with and maintain. Packagecloud's hosted approach removed the headache of maintaining a repository. The thoughtful team mechanisms provided allowed us to provide just the right access to our CI processes and community members to get the job done. I cannot recommend Packagecloud highly enough.

**What do you dislike about packagecloud?**

Package cloud is great. We like everything about it.

**Recommendations to others considering packagecloud:**

Just do it. Packagecloud makes all of your deb and rpm packaging problems go away. Wish we'd done it sooner.

**What problems is packagecloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We had a number of problems with our past package repository solutions, all of them solved by packagecloud:

1. Self-hosting and maintenance was a significant effort. Since running an package repository isn't our specialty, self hosting also proved unreliable. Packagecloud's hosted solutions solved all of these problems.
2. APIs for publication. Packagecloud provided the first set of APIs we've seen for publishing to package repositories that actually fit the task. This allowed us to greatly simplify our CI.
3. Team access and service accounts. The ability to delegate particular repositories to team members or service account let us get to our desired workflow.

  ### 19. Nice to use deb/rpm repository hosting (with open-source plan)

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kentaro H. | Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 21, 2021

**What do you like best about packagecloud?**

We are using packagecloud.io with open-source plan for https://milter-manager.osdn.jp/

For every new milter-manager release, we don't need to maintain our own APT/YUM repository by ourselves anymore.
As milter-manager is developed for a long time, the repository also contains many packages, it takes disk space a lot.
packagecloud.io provides enough disk spaces for keeping milter-manager repository.

And one more thing, we don't need to maintain signing-key by ourself.

**What do you dislike about packagecloud?**

We are very satisfied with packagecloud.io.

**What problems is packagecloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before migrating to packagecloud.io, we used sourceforge.net.
At that time, we maintained APT/YUM repository on sourceforge.net, but it was not reliable because they changed the download URL sometimes without enough announcement in advance. We need to follow-up those changes time to time.

By using packagecloud.io, we can keep consistency for maintaining repositories.

  ### 20. Great package repository with the option to promote package from development to production repo

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jiri B. | Technical Solutions Architect, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 10, 2021

**What do you like best about packagecloud?**

We have switched to packagecloud recently. The one feature I really like is the ability to "Promote" packages from one repository to the other.

That allows us to test new packages much faster than ever before. We upload packages that are ready for testing to our Dev repository, and when we are ready to release it, it takes a single CLI command or a single click on the packagecloud web UI.

**What do you dislike about packagecloud?**

It would be great if there was an easy way to integrate GitHub Actions and packagecloud. The idea is that packages built by GitHub Actions would automatically upload to our Dev repo.

Updated: One of our team members submitted the packagecloud and GitHub Actions (GH) action to the GH Marketplace, and we are now using that.

**What problems is packagecloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We don't have to maintain our own repo. Uploading packages to packagecloud is straightforward.

  ### 21. Easy to use yum/deb repository manager

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joshua T. | Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2021

**What do you like best about packagecloud?**

Simple to use interface and command-line tool that allows for us to quickly deploy our installation packages for all flavors of Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS, and Raspbian for our clients. We used the command-line tool and integrated it into our CI server to quickly deploy these packages. They also include scripts that allow our users to install the repository to access our packages easily. Adding a new distro or version is as simple as updating our CI to deploy that new version, and it is immediately available.

**What do you dislike about packagecloud?**

The only dislike is that one package can support multiple versions of a distro, and this is not something you can do with Packagecloud. Having Packagecloud handle this requires us to push several copies of the package to our repository. We handle this in our CI server, but it would be nicer to "deploy" with a single upload to multiple repositories at once.

**What problems is packagecloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Using Packagecloud has allowed us to move away from having users download and manually install our binaries into their server to access our software. Several things could go wrong when you have users doing something, but being able to have our package install like any other Linux package has made it easier for our clients to install the software. This has taken a lot of support work off us and has let us focus our efforts elsewhere, as we do not need to maintain our own repository server.

  ### 22. Repository management made easy

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Uri H. | Graphics Designer - CEO - Founder, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 06, 2021

**What do you like best about packagecloud?**

Packagecloud allowed us to create an APT easily repository in a matter of minutes. Besides this, integrating with popular CI services like Travis CI allows us to continuously push updates to our users. I also welcome its web interface as it makes it really useful to manage a repository even when I'm not on my computer.

Packagecloud offers usage statistics, and we can create as many repositories as we need. Their documentation was easy to follow and made moving to the service a breeze. The repositories are also signed with a GPG key. The API is pretty straightforward to use with Travis CI.

Lastly, Packagecloud supports OSS projects, like ours, making it a no-brainer to start using it.

**What do you dislike about packagecloud?**

So far, I have no complaints about Packagecloud. Perhaps only a suggestion to remove old and unsupported versions of the OSes they support pushing packages of.

**What problems is packagecloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We had started to have problems with the self-hosted software that we used to use (aptly). Slow response, lack of features, existing features not working (cleaning package DB, remove packages for storage, for example) made managing our repository really problematic.

After signing to Packagecloud, our woes disappeared since it immediately offered easy management for the repository and the packages, besides CI integration out-of-the-box.

  ### 23. Amazing services and support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael L. | Senior Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2021

**What do you like best about packagecloud?**

The incredible services around CI/CD and the easy way to integrate within Maven builds.

**What do you dislike about packagecloud?**

Really? Honestly nothing. Packagecloud offers me everything I need for my open-source projects and much more.

**What problems is packagecloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

After Bintrays shutdown of the services, deployment and sharing my artifacts were not possible anymore. After that, Packagecloud took the possibility of providing me CI/CD and deployment services for free.

  ### 24. Simple to use repo for multiple package types

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Szymon J. | Software Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 14, 2021

**What do you like best about packagecloud?**

It took me literally a few seconds to set up a Ubuntu package repo, and the simplicity of the process was amazing. Pushing a package after creating a release in GitHub is easy using Actions and package_cloud CLI. I love the GUI of the repo which helps users to install and use the repo in a very simple way in no time.

**What do you dislike about packagecloud?**

I like everything about packagecloud. So far, it has met all my expectations.

**Recommendations to others considering packagecloud:**

Great place to keep your OSS packages.

**What problems is packagecloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We store our open-source Ubuntu packages in packagecloud. It helps us to avoid the hassle of maintaining a public repo by ourselves. We get a reliable repository to which we can push packages easily, and the users have the newest release of our software available immediately.

  ### 25. Very straightforward repo hosting

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Eugene P. | Project lead, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 01, 2021

**What do you like best about packagecloud?**

Easy setup, straightforward CLI tool, nice customer-facing UI

**What do you dislike about packagecloud?**

Lack of integrations, in particular Github Actions

**What problems is packagecloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm using it to host my open source project's Linux packages, it's a tremendous improvements compared to offering simple package downloads through Github

  ### 26. Easy Cloud-hosted package distribution

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David N. | Systems Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 13, 2021

**What do you like best about packagecloud?**

Package cloud is extremely easy to integrate with CI pipelines. We had three application pipelines reconfigured to push packages to packagecloud within a couple hours. Our users were enjoying the ease of download right away!

**What do you dislike about packagecloud?**

There's not much to disklike. They response to support requests right away, and they provide an excellend product!

**What problems is packagecloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our users continually asked for a way to install upgrades automatically. It's cumbersome trying to maintain scripts that run in cron. Packagecloud solved all that by allowing us to give our users apt and yum repos. They can then use their normal system tools to automatically schedlue and install upgrades.

  ### 27. We love packagecloud

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jean D. | Marketing Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 23, 2021

**What do you like best about packagecloud?**

Packagecloud is a highly reliable tool with a user-friendly interface and API. We were able to manage all of our packages and quickly deploy them to the relevant environments. The support team is very reactive and helpful.

**What do you dislike about packagecloud?**

Nothing for now, it has been a great collaboration.

**What problems is packagecloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Maintaining and industrializing repositories can be troublesome, and packagecloud makes it as simple as an API call.

  ### 28. Straightforward Debian Repository Hosting

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Industrial Automation | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

The OOS plan to host Debian package for Open Source packages I developed as well as the easy-to-use API to automate publishing new artifacts

**What do you dislike about packagecloud?**

Until now I am happy with the provided service

**What problems is packagecloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

  ### 30. I use pakagecloud everyday for my business activities.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

I use pakagecloud for my business cloud and I have recommended my work colleague to use it too. We use it for our database and other business needs.

**What do you dislike about packagecloud?**

Sometimes when all of us are using it at once it gets slow and that disrupts our work flow.

**What problems is packagecloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have no more cloud issues since our work has started using this cloud system.
