## ownCloud Reviews
  ### 1. Secure Self-Hosting with Minor Mobile Hiccups

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jungen S. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 25, 2026

**What do you like best about ownCloud?**

I really appreciate ownCloud's full control over our data, as it's self-hosted and keeps our sensitive business files secure and compliant with internal policies. The file syncing across all devices is reliable, allowing the team to share files and folders securely without using unsafe email attachments or public links. It works smoothly on every platform we use, offering us privacy that standard cloud storage tools can't match.

**What do you dislike about ownCloud?**

I find that while the core sync works well, mobile apps can feel slower or less responsive than I’d like, especially with larger files or slower connections. Large uploads/downloads can get stuck or restart if the connection drops briefly. A resumable transfer feature would be great. Also, better caching and offline mode for large files would help a lot because it can be slow to load previews or access files, even when marked for offline use. The initial setup was doable but more technical compared to regular cloud tools.

**What problems is ownCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use ownCloud for secure file storage, sharing, and collaboration while maintaining data privacy with self-hosting. It syncs files across devices, allowing team and client file exchange without third-party involvement.

  ### 2. Secure File Management with Full Control

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dilip kumar .

**Reviewed Date:** February 02, 2026

**What do you like best about ownCloud?**

I use ownCloud for secure file storage and sharing, which helps me upload, organize, and access documents from anywhere and share files easily while keeping data private. I value the secure file sharing, file synchronization across devices, and access control, which make collaboration easy while ensuring data privacy and full control. I like that ownCloud integrates well with common productivity tools like document editors and email, fitting seamlessly into our daily workflow. I personally find the initial setup easy and enjoy its easy access, and would recommend it to others.

**What do you dislike about ownCloud?**

The user interface can feel a bit less intuitive compared to some mainstream cloud platforms, and initial setup may require some technical knowledge. However, once configured, it works reliably.

**What problems is ownCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use ownCloud for secure file storage and sharing, solving issues of insecure, scattered storage by centralizing, syncing, and controlling access. It allows me to upload, organize, and share documents easily, ensuring data privacy and collaboration with my team.

  ### 3. Effortless Setup, Versatile for All Devices

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Frank F. | Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 27, 2026

**What do you like best about ownCloud?**

I like that ownCloud is easy to set up. It's very straightforward to start getting value out of, and you can install it on pretty much any cloud environment. The web client and mobile clients are great, and you can start using it quickly. I also appreciate its open source core which allows you to begin using it and then decide to pay for additional features if necessary. It's a handy solution that provides the same cloud experience as more proprietary solutions.

**What do you dislike about ownCloud?**

Some of the clients could use more polish. The search feature could be improved and the UI could be simplified a bit more.

**What problems is ownCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OwnCloud facilitates storage and access across multiple devices, helps with file asset storage between departments, and provides great web and mobile clients for quick setup in any cloud environment. You control the files on your own server so can own privacy or licensing requirements.

  ### 4. Secure, Flexible Cloud Storage Alternative

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Harvey E.

**Reviewed Date:** December 24, 2025

**What do you like best about ownCloud?**

I like ownCloud for the full control it provides over data and privacy. Being self-hosted, it allows me to decide where files are stored, who can access them, and how security is managed. I appreciate its smooth file syncing and reliable sharing, which facilitate easy collaboration without relying on third-party cloud providers. The self-hosting and data ownership options, granular sharing permissions, and strong security features like encryption and access controls are incredibly valuable. The reliable desktop and mobile syncing ensures files are always available, and the collaboration features like link sharing and versioning make teamwork smooth, all while preserving privacy and control.

**What do you dislike about ownCloud?**

Some things about ownCloud that could be improved are performance and scalability tuning, which can require manual optimization on larger deployments, and the mobile app experience, which feels more basic compared to mainstream cloud services. The app/plugin ecosystem is also more limited, and initial server setup and maintenance can be complex for non-technical users.

**What problems is ownCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use ownCloud to securely store, sync, and share files, keeping full control over data. It solves data privacy issues, prevents reliance on public clouds, allows private collaboration, ensures compliance, and eases team collaboration.

  ### 5. OwnCloud: The Private Cloud Solution for Control Freaks

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Deepansha B. | Designer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 30, 2025

**What do you like best about ownCloud?**

For me, the best part of OwnCloud is that I have absolute control over my data. With Google Drive or Dropbox, for example, your files are just stored on some big company's servers and for the most part you have no idea where it’s actually stored or what is going on with your files, storage, and privacy. Through OwnCloud I can store everything locally on my own server, with my domain name, and there is a value in that for my team and I because we work with some sensitive files and we just want to be in control of our security and privacy. The interface is pretty standard for cloud storage systems, so after the initial setup, it is simple to use. It is a large sign of relief to know that it is cloud storage backed by open-source code, which means the community is always improving and enhancing it.

**What do you dislike about ownCloud?**

Alright, so the biggest con, and it is a pretty big con, is the initial setup. Configuration of a Syncro server is definitely not user-friendly, so it's not a solution for a person that's not tech-savvy. You have to understand what you're doing with a server, and the configuration process can be a real pain. The performance can also be finicky as well. If you're syncing a large folder with many files, it can feel a little slow. It's not a deal-breaker, but you will notice it. Also, like most products, be careful when checking out the paid add-ons and the managed services, they add up quickly.

**What problems is ownCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OwnCloud addresses the issues of data privacy and lock-in - it allows me to have peace of mind knowing that the important data of my company is under my control, not someone else's. I do not have to worry about third-party privacy policies changing or any unilateral decision from a company that would suddenly remove access. OwnCloud is also an excellent, inexpensive option for public cloud services; this is a definite win for our budget too!

  ### 6. Secure File Management with Tech-Savvy Setup

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Oluyede O.

**Reviewed Date:** January 25, 2026

**What do you like best about ownCloud?**

I like using ownCloud for storing my files as it ensures security for my files and data. It helps solve my problems like avoiding scams because there's no third-party involved, and I appreciate its fast syncing capability. I find ownCloud's features particularly appealing, especially the privacy it offers, the ability to manage my own server, and having full control of my files, which aids my tech skills.

**What do you dislike about ownCloud?**

It's not beginner-friendly because it requires a server to be set up and the UI is less polished and needs improvement.

**What problems is ownCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use ownCloud for storing my files securely without third-party access, it syncs fast and helps protect against scams.

  ### 7. Fast and Easy File Sharing with ownCloud

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Valvile W.

**Reviewed Date:** December 16, 2025

**What do you like best about ownCloud?**

I like the speed of ownCloud. It's just that I can send so many files overnight. It's awesome, and I love it very much. Setting it up was pretty easy, as long as I had an email address. It's so simple that even a baby could set it up by themselves. I'm grateful because ownCloud helps me to share files and keep folders easily. It's been awesome.

**What do you dislike about ownCloud?**

i love everything about it

**What problems is ownCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use ownCloud to share files and folders easily. It solves the problem of accessibility, making files available to others effortlessly.

  ### 8. own cloud file sharing platform

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nikunj K. | Consultant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 17, 2025

**What do you like best about ownCloud?**

The graphical user interface and intuitive design stand out. I find the on-premise version to be excellent. The file sharing features work very well, and I appreciate the options for file expiry and password protection.

**What do you dislike about ownCloud?**

The free version does not support active LDAP integration, and it also lacks UDP file transfer functionality.

**What problems is ownCloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This is a solid alternative to FTP, with a particularly impressive GUI that stands out as a strong replacement for traditional FTP solutions. The community version of OwnCloud for on-premise use is also excellent. I have installed it multiple times and found it to be a reliable option.

  ### 9. Easy to use
