Owla is a privacy-first team communication platform for companies that want secure messaging, decision-making and task coordination in one place. Built on the open Matrix protocol, it can be self-hosted and encrypts all messages and attachments end to end, so internal data stays on the organization's own server. Teams use rooms, threads and Discussions — focused spaces for a single topic with only the relevant people, which can be completed and later revived with an AI summary. Tasks and notes are created directly in conversations with assignees, deadlines and status tracking. A built-in AI assistant delivers a daily digest, summarizes unread rooms, suggests replies and extracts insights from PDF and spreadsheet files, using the bundled assistant or the team's own DeepSeek, Claude, OpenAI or Gemini key. Owla integrates with Google Calendar, Gmail, Drive and Meet, supports webhooks, includes shared password vaults, and runs natively on iOS, Android, macOS and Windows.
