I really like that if I get distracted or if I’m checking my email during a meeting, it can show me what I said. Now I can search in the chat for the exact minute and second when something specific was mentioned — it’s the coolest thing. I don’t need to search by keywords; it shows me and tells me the next steps, exactly what I need.

We would like to have the meeting transcripts in a database like Notion, where we can link the calls with the client information. That way, when someone needs to understand the context of the last meeting, they’ll just have to access the link. Accuracy can drop when there are heavy accents, background noise, or industry-specific terminology. I also noticed that formatting sometimes gets lost when exporting transcripts to other platforms. I use Otter.ai to transcribe meetings and board meeting minutes, which helps me recognize who is talking by inserting the speaker's name. The summary is pretty accurate and actually summarizes. I also like that there is pretty decent storage (even on the free plan) for transcript. I actually had to revisit different transcripts a few times so it was definitely useful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The only two things I would critique, and they are no in way dealbreakers are 1) I can't share transcript (or I haven't figured out a way), and 2) sometimes some words are mis-transcribed, which isn't a big deal because it's only every now and then. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I use Otter.ai mostly for transcribing and gaining summary notes from podcast interviews. It is easy to import files and have them automatically transcribed. Speaker breaks are generally accurate and most language is accurate as well aside from industry-specific lingo. Like most AI notetakers, Otter.ai does not learn. Despite using it for dozens of transcriptions, it still doesn't understand the name of my podcast nor the industry lingo that I use regardless of how often I correct it. Exporting is not intuitively placed, and correcting transcripts is difficult and frustrating. I often find myself simply exporting it to an srt or txt file and editing it outside the system because it's easier. Finally, I usually have multiple tracks in my mp3s uploaded, but when I used an mp3 with a single track, Otter could not differentiate speakers at all, reading it like I was the speaker the entire time. The "Set It and Forget It" Assistant: The OtterPilot feature that automatically joins my calendar meetings is a huge convenience. I don't have to remember to hit record. I also have the option to record manually, if I choose it so.

Instant Meeting Recaps: The AI-generated summary and action items that arrive after the meeting are incredibly useful for quick follow-ups without needing to read the entire transcript.

It's not a perfect solution. While the transcription accuracy is impressive, it can stumble, especially with company-specific acronyms, complex technical jargon, or colleagues with strong accents. I always spend a few minutes after a critical meeting to scan the transcript and make minor corrections, where it is required. Also, the AI summary, while a great starting point, can sometimes miss the nuance of a discussion or pull out a less-than-critical point. I used otter.ai for the first time when I needed to transcribe a 30 min long video and did not have the time to listen to it. This application was able to do it with ease and perfect accuracy. I also like that it separates the transcription based on how many speakers there are so it’s not all compiled into one paragraph and that makes it easier to read with a conversational flow. I can finally stop scribbling notes and actually pay attention in meetings. I'm able to actively listen to what people are saying, knowing that a perfect record of the conversation is being created. No more meeting FOMO. I can go back and review the transcript later, which is a lifesaver when I need to recall a specific detail or clarify a point. The action item checklist is eerily accurate, saving me from having to re-listen to the entire meeting. It's not perfect at identifying who is speaking, especially when people have similar voices or are in the same room. It might label "Speaker 1" as "Speaker 2" for a few lines, which requires a quick fix after the meeting. The free version is a great starting point, but the time limits per conversation and per month are quite restrictive. When I was recording a meeting, the AI software did not accurately record a member's speech because of an accent.
