I did have trouble recently trying to generate a normal distribution curve from scratch. The users should be able to generate curves for display without having actual data. So I used Excel first and then imported the normal distribution into Origin Pro. **What problems is OriginPro solving and how is that benefiting you?** We fit our circular Dichroism data using a hyperplane linear least squares fitting routine that is very easy to use. I like the Change Parameters button in the fitting. It makes it so easy. ### 4. Origin makes easy to 'see' on real time data and functions, observe trends, apply corrections, peak fitting, baseline corrections and simple and complex math applied to either data sets or plots. **What do you dislike about OriginPro?** Implementing functions between workbooks, it is difficult to call values between workbooks and implement them into functions. Continued changes in updated versions make it harder to keep a good knowledge of all Origin tools. Lack of programming language compatibility with other well extended languages (Matlab, Python...). Support for figures plotting is not very automated or configurable (wizard). **Recommendations to others considering OriginPro:** OriginPro is an easy software, visual, and intuitive. Some functions still require implementation or refinement, such as scripts programming language. Origin 6.0 15 years ago did 98% of what I needed and fit on 5 floppy disks. There are also many functions that are implemented in kludgey ways that are difficult to find and difficult or awkward to use. It shows clear signs of being old code that is repeatedly patched and patched and patched with new features. Needs a scratch re-write. **Recommendations to others considering OriginPro:** The only game in town for good plots. **What problems is OriginPro solving and how is that benefiting you?** Making nice plots of complicated data, clearing showing trends. Heat maps are very useful. I actually appreciate the project explorer function quite a bit, as a way to store data completely. We also use ternary plots to categorize reservoir rock samples (geology) based on their clay, quartz, and carbonate content and can establish trends and develop models to help us understand how our clients' geology is changing as they move across their acreage. **What do you dislike about OriginPro?** Steep learning curve. It takes a while to learn how to use the functions and only through repeated use does the information stick in your head. It's also time-consuming to train a new employee on what to do; in my case, I turned over the data analysis duties for our whole oil analysis and fingerprinting to a junior chemist late in 2019 while continuing to consult and do interpretation. Although they do try to make it a very user friendly experience, sometimes the amount of options can be overwhelming.
