Was looking for options to show stacked graphs with 6-10 channels of data, so needed multi-Y graphs. Dealing with 100's of thousands of rows of data is very fast, compared to conventional spreadsheets. The improvements for the sheet calculations now match the capabilities of MS Excel, giving more control of data.. used to have to calculate in Excel, then move the data to Origin. Being able to filter data, removing bad data either visually on the graphing page or through filtering on the data tables helped speed the output of the reports. The graph tools such as min/max/avg across user defined x-values enables to quickly point out relevant events. Several options to choose from for channel properties such as colors, patterns, thickness', etc. **What do you dislike about OriginPro?** Was not always intuitive creating the desired graphs, however, a phone call to support, and sharing screens quickly resolved any issues. Support was great. If they could not help immediately, they would work on the problem offline and call back with the solution. While just about everything is customizable, this added to the complexity of the program. However, once you had a template set up, dealing with new data was much easier as it would fit within the template. **Recommendations to others considering OriginPro:** I have trialed several graphing solutions, and while OriginPro is way more powerful than what I needed, it's flexibility and technical support were well worth the costs, enabling me to provide complete solution to my clients. While this is complex software, the support from OriginPro makes the package very usable for all levels of users. I suggest a trial run to see how it works for your needs. **What problems is OriginPro solving and how is that benefiting you?** Graphical representation of real-time job data. Able to create stacked x-y graphs with 10 or more data channels and output these to a professional looking report. Able to to isolate critical data, filter it down to usable values and provide visualizations to my clients. ### 6. For example, I used the last version of Origin Pro to build networks without any backgroung in graph theory. There are many built in features that help you get exactly what you need. The program far exceeded my expectations. It is compatible with Excel and other workload programs. It can do everything from data analysis to data graphs to more complex graphs associated with techniques such as electrophysiology. It is a must have program for any lab and especially if you support graduate students. **What do you dislike about OriginPro?** The spreadsheets could be more user friendly but are compatible with Excel. The statistical analysis tools are easy to use, and there is a wide variety of functions, such as linear regression analyses or statistical significance tests. I also believe the plotting tools are much neater than Microsoft Excel and final results appear more professional. Although I have not fully explored the wide variety of functions offered by OriginPro, I am aware that it will be useful for more than I expect. I look forward to discovering its features more in depth as I continue to use OriginPro to organize, compare, and present data collected during my research. l **What do you dislike about OriginPro?** I still have trouble with keeping my projects and pages organized in OriginPro. I find it difficult to access different parts that I have worked with because each graph, data, and analysis page are separated. If I had comparatively large data sets, I would not use OriginPro because it would be confusing and inefficient to track my data and results. One other downside of OriginPro is that it is only available to download on Windows platforms, so I cannot use it on my Mac laptop, which I use most often for work. It would be wonderful if OriginPro developed a version accessible to Mac interfaces so Mac users can avoid changing their entire computer interface or use a different computer altogether like myself. **Recommendations to others considering OriginPro:** I would recommend trying OriginPro even if someone has another preferred data-analysis software because I believe it offers many practical and unique functions. I have observed many presentations that include sloppy plots that seem hardly edited. However, in OriginPro, the automated charts already appear neat and easy to read without making any changes. **What problems is OriginPro solving and how is that benefiting you?** OriginPro was first recommended to me by a colleague because I could not figure out how to perform all of my desired statistical tests on my data using Microsoft Excel. Excel is what I have traditionally used to store and organize data from my research. By switching to OriginPro, I have benefitted from the easy analysis tools and the quick and presentation-ready plotting functions. For instance, with excel files or CSV files (above 4 GB). Many times Origin crases itself, and I cannot process the data. I firmly believe that the Origin staff must improve the speed of importing data, the compatibility with different files, and make the Origin software more light in terms of processing large data sets. **What problems is OriginPro solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use Origin to make different graphics to understand trends and correlations between other variables. But I did not find a handy place or database easy to use scripts. Easy and intuitive use 2. Able to make an incredible variety of beautiful publication quality graphs 3. Easy customizable data analysis functions and graphs 4. Able to import and export to all the most important files and programs 5. Easily able to import large binary files, MATLAB data, and of course ASCII data 6. Able to export to PowerPoint, Excel, and most every other key applications 7. Very responsive customer and technical support who really care about the quality of their product and they care about me. 8. Very informative webinars to support users 9. Always keeping up with new developments in other technologies with explicit awareness of the other programs out there to make new connections 10. Very reasonable pricing so you get a lot of bang for your buck! As a physician-scientist, Origin is hands down the best graphical analysis program I have ever used. **What do you dislike about OriginPro?** Honestly, I don't have any. Origin was the best graphical analysis program I had seen in 1992, and for nearly 30 years, it has been my go to program for analyzing and displaying a wide variety of data. Unsurpassed quality. For me, the only thing Origin doesn't do that I would use, it to directly read data from analog to digital converters, but this is not necessary because I usually do this with MATLAB. **What problems is OriginPro solving and how is that benefiting you?** I have used Origin mostly to analyze and display the results of electrophysiological data obtained from voltage-clamp and patch-clamp recordings of ion channels. I usually sample data at up to 10,000 samples per second and the data is binary with file sizes up to 100 MB. Origin has no problem reading and importing these data, which are also processed in MATLAB. ### 24. Waterfall plots are a breeze in Origin and make it easy to plot 3D data as well. Also, the profile fitting option can be very handy for doing quick analysis. **What do you dislike about OriginPro?** Some of the special symbols could be inserted easier, also for doing data that has different type/size of XY in the same workbook a keyboard short cut to do 'Set As X' for specified columns would be nice. **Recommendations to others considering OriginPro:** If you are someone who consistently makes plots on a weekly basis then I strongly recommend Origin. Several plots on the merged graph have messy font sizes, though the original plots looked ok. Fit page to layer or the Fit layer to page command can ruin the font sizes, and it is difficult to follow how and why. Furthermore, the plots usually come with a lot of white space around them, which is very annoying. It is also annoying that the options to adjust the size of the white space and to adjust the picture size are in a different place. If I want to adjust sizes, I want to go to a window where I can do everything intuitively. The smoothing window does not always show the preview with the right size: sometimes the plot is so small that I can not see anything, and there is no way to enlarge it. Saving of the eps format sometimes exports very bad quality pictures, but enhancing the resolution fixes the problem. However, I do not understand why I do not have to do this with every figure. If I import a big file with many columns, I cannot insert a new column between the imported ones. I have no idea why. With the previous versions, I did not have this issue. (I am using Origin2020b) It is also annoying that having a strong computer, even 30 MB origin file can slow down so much, and it complains that the autosaving can make it slow. Ctrl-Z does not always work during formatting. The most annoying part is when I accidentally press some keyboard combination, and the menu bar get reshuffled, or I delete some sheets or figure, and there is no way back. Once I pressed accidentally ctrl+w, but I did not know how to get back to my original sheet(because I did not know what I pressed)--I needed to call the user support because I was afraid that I deleted my data. In such a case it would be great to have a Ctrl-z option. I have to also admit that I have never studied the usage of OriginLab on an official curse, I do not know a lot about its features and functions, and I do not use any programming language to control the program. **Recommendations to others considering OriginPro:** It is a great environment to make a single 2D plot of any data. The figure can be easily and intuitively adjusted and be exported to a wide range of formats. **What problems is OriginPro solving and how is that benefiting you?** -Making 2D plots, and fit and smooth measured data -During the experiment, Origin is a great and fast tool to make ''quick and dirty'' analysis, which supports understanding on spot: plotting multiple curves with two y-axes and different colors quickly, is the strength of Origin ### 39.
