**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bill S. | MGR Global Architect & Infrastructure, Consumer Goods, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 13, 2019

**What do you like best about Oracle Linux?**

Oracle Support for OEL is good but you have to get the right person on the other end of the ticket. We sometimes have to waste time while we wait to get to the right person. That right person is knowledgeable for our specific problem. I do like the dedicated support team we have from the account people that want to make our project a success.

**What do you dislike about Oracle Linux?**

Hard to get to a knowlegable person. The first people that get assigned a ticket seem to have a script for what they require you to collect and it feels like they invent things if you provide what they were looking for in advance. lie the SOSReport that every single ticket needs. They also require all the OCI ID's for every instance and ticket.

**Recommendations to others considering Oracle Linux:**

The best way to do Oracle Cloud (OCI). The dedicated team we have to make your project a success is a must.

**What do you dislike about Oracle Linux?**

Normally he would have nothing to say but would mention that he is having a small flaw in regards to his mocker, and the support system

**Recommendations to others considering Oracle Linux:**

This software is very simple, nothing complex very easy to use, easy to handle. I recommend it because it has served us as an industry that goes on an ascent, for small tasks and also large ones, for a part of the business population, our duty is to evaluate everything, and this takes a ten out of ten.

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Telecommunications | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 11, 2019

**What do you like best about Oracle Linux?**

For ther linux release like redhat, ubuntu, centos,... you need install much more dependency software/ packages ... which require to install Oracle software like Oracle Database,....but with Oracle Linux they did the rest for you.
Oracle was did great on tunning and config kernel with UEK version which can improvement almost system to highest load.

**What do you dislike about Oracle Linux?**

At my view Oracle linux with UEK kernel seem tobe not stale like Redhat kernel which shipped same DVD, repository from Oracle.

**Recommendations to others considering Oracle Linux:**

  ### 22. Oracle Linux Review

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Insurance | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 29, 2020

**What do you like best about Oracle Linux?**

Security, stability, Oracle database integration.

**What do you dislike about Oracle Linux?**

Oracle pricing. Due to the very expensive support and plan, it is quite difficult for smaller companies around the world to invest in Oracle.

**What problems is Oracle Linux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Oracle linux is the most compatible and straightforward solution to host Oracle Database environments.

  ### 23. Oracle Linux: High performance and stability in operation.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Musa V. | Software Development, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 03, 2019

**What do you like best about Oracle Linux?**

Oracle Linux is a replica of Red Hat Linux, a well-known version of Linux, and is very stable. This helps protect systems that are quite error free. The software is very helpful and I like the cloud-centric interface, which increases the connectivity between them. It is a scalable system and is compatible with many hardware brands.

**What do you dislike about Oracle Linux?**

There is a lack of integration with Microsoft and Mac networks to share network services. Add-ons for popular tracking tools such as Oracle and Zabbix are insufficient.

**Recommendations to others considering Oracle Linux:**

Oracle Linux is easy to implement packages that work well with Oracle databases. It is easy to hire resources because any Linux administrator can work with Oracle Linux, because the Linux administrator can run with almost zero changes to their existing Linux.

**What problems is Oracle Linux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The operating system was built and packaged from scratch, making it the best and easiest operating system to run the Oracle database. Oracle Linux is your best choice if you are going to deploy Oracle to an Intel or AMD-based server. However, although it is a special solution, an operating system is more than the other viewers from the administrative point of view.

  ### 24. Excellent Operative System

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Francis S. | Francis Sosa, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 04, 2019

**What do you like best about Oracle Linux?**

In the first instance, perfect to work in conjunction with other oracle technologies, whether database or applications, create a complete oracle environment. Native operating system tools optimized to internally monitor processes, performance, cpu, disks, ram, among others. Compatible with Intel processors, and virtualizations under environments of other operating systems such as Windows Server, great support from Oracle, modern kernel with better performance. Easy to use, compatible with a large number of different technologies at the hardware level. In summary very good distribution of linux to be used under business environments.

**What do you dislike about Oracle Linux?**

I do not have any problem with the operating system, it has fulfilled its functionality correctly, another excellent distribution of linux, it is required to have basic / intermediate knowledge in linux according to the purpose of the installation of this operating system, personal or business,

**Recommendations to others considering Oracle Linux:**

Perfect for environments with oracle tools, responsive operating system, good performance and resource management, easy to handle with basic Linux knowledge.

**What problems is Oracle Linux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In the work environment under which I work, it is widely used in conjunction with other technologies of Oracle, databases and applications, facilitating a little administration and thus standardizing technologies, great performance, improved security, highly recommended

  ### 25. Oracle Linux Review

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

this OS can be used to support other platforms and tools throughout an organization as it provides stability and security, it has well documented solutions for issues on Oracle support site, the OS kernel can be updated without having to reboot the system

**What do you dislike about Oracle Linux?**

it has issues such as cloud compatibility, can be slow, sometimes customer support from oracle could be challenging, there are fewer users of oracle linux than other versions, potentially making it hard to obtain outside support

**Recommendations to others considering Oracle Linux:**

the software does really work well with databases. it provides a fairly stable functionality for remote systems that have users requiring limited assistance

  ### 27. Virus Free Operating System. " Must Use"

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Noman G. | Head Enterprise Application Development , Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 01, 2019

**What do you like best about Oracle Linux?**

Previously we are using different famous OS but some serious issue we are facing main performance and virus. Additionally, previous OS was much expensive to compare with Linux so as per budgeting we huritn a lot more than expected. Control and OS management very hand taking activity but in Linux, this help our infrastructure and DBA team a lot. They are more comfortable to manage this OS. As we are leading courier company in Pakistan so software are our back bone so our development team required fast performance and virus free server always which help business accordingly. As we are using large oracle database and Linux is excellent collaboration with this.

**What do you dislike about Oracle Linux?**

Configuration and installation is not much easy to compare others. its taken too much time to configure but once it get done then there will be no issue. Sometime support may taken so much time too due to every time you have to create SR in vendor website to resolve this issue and they may taken long time.

**Recommendations to others considering Oracle Linux:**

Linux is completely an open source project. You can have a look at the training first before going to implements

**What problems is Oracle Linux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Earlier i have mentioned benefits but some more are following
Low cost,
Performance
Virus free
Network friendly
Security
Multitasking

  ### 28. Ideal choice for both your development and production systems.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer & Network Security | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about Oracle Linux?**

I like the fact that Oracle Linux offers kernel and user space live patching with no downtime required. Oracle Linux is also the most stable, secure and flexible Linux variants in the world.

**What do you dislike about Oracle Linux?**

For every instance and ticket they require all the OCI ID's.

**What problems is Oracle Linux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My organization is overwhelmed by rapidly changing cloud native technology landscape but Oracle solves this problem with Oracle Linux Cloud Native Environment,
a curated suite of open source tools, which are compliant with the Cloud
Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) and are included with Oracle Linux
Premier Support. Oracle performs extensive integration and testing to
ensure the stack works well together.

  ### 29. Oracle Linux Review

**Reviewed by:** Anthony M. | DevOps Engineer | MicroServices Developer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 09, 2019

**What do you like best about Oracle Linux?**

It i very good at managing ram/ memory and sharing it among various programs that are running concurrently.

**What do you dislike about Oracle Linux?**

It is sometimes clumsy and slow and the support levels are wanting hence when an issue surfaces a user has to bear all the workload to fix.

**Recommendations to others considering Oracle Linux:**

It is a good environment especially if you have a need for running multiple applications simultaneously.

**What problems is Oracle Linux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

running concurrent software inside the same environment. The benefits have included efficient memory sharing and usage among the applications.

**Reviewed Date:** September 17, 2019

**What do you like best about Oracle Linux?**

What I like best about Oracle Linux is the ease of installation. Having only started administrating the software 2 years ago, I have been able to install and configure 4 production level servers and hardened them. There is lots of information to be found and it has helped a lot

**What do you dislike about Oracle Linux?**

there seems to be too many ways to configure ethernet setups. We had a 3rd party configure one of our environments, now whenever I try to do an update, I lose the ethernet settings, and I have not figured out why

**What problems is Oracle Linux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

the best benefit with Linux is unlike Microsoft, I don't have to reboot as often, patches are more easily applied and managed

**What do you like best about Oracle Linux?**

I work across many different types of organizations. In some cases, Oracle Linux is being used for all database servers across the entire organization. In some cases, it is being selectively rolled out to replace legacy Unix systems. Plus in a few isolated cases, I've helped to replace Windows database servers with Oracle Linux. The common theme across all these different types of organizations is that they want the best Linux for running Oracle, which is pre-tuned and optimized as well as well supported by the database vendor. Oracle Linux wins hands down on these points.

**What do you dislike about Oracle Linux?**

The operating system could be improved in its compatibility with older applications.
There are fewer users of Oracle Linux than other versions, potentially making it harder to obtain outside support.
Sometimes customer support from Oracle can be challenging.

**Recommendations to others considering Oracle Linux:**

The software does really well in systems that work with databases. It does really well in its connectivity to Oracle database applications. It also provides a great deal of stability and can provide fairly stable functionality for remote systems that have users requiring limited assistance. Installing Oracle Linux is fairly easy and less time consuming than other Linux versions.

**What problems is Oracle Linux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

If you are going to deploy Oracle on an Intel or AMD based server then Oracle Linux is by far your best choice. The operating system is built and packaged from the ground up to be the single best and easiest OS for running an Oracle database. But while it may be a custom solution, it's probably 98% or more the same as Redhat and CentOS from an OS admin point of view - so easy to hire resources as any Linux admin can work with Oracle Linux with almost zero changes to their existing practices.

**What do you like best about Oracle Linux?**

Application stability and Performant OS. Always gives reliable performance even under stress. The systems are pretty standard and help with a lot of the devops style deployments to go absolutely smooth. Love the Linux community.

**What do you dislike about Oracle Linux?**

The Oracle Repositories sometimes lack some of the nicer tools that many other Xnix systems like CentOS and Ubuntu support out-of-the-box. I did love to see them pre-packaged or atleast remain available through additional repo files.

**What do you dislike about Oracle Linux?**

The terms of license, it is not a free or GNU product. You have to pay. The installation process maybe noyt suitable for beginners.

**What problems is Oracle Linux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is suitable form Oracle installations or where you need Redhat but d not want to pay for their server support.

  ### 47. Good user experience

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ángel Adrián M. | Ingeniero de Sistemas Junior, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 05, 2018

**What do you dislike about Oracle Linux?**

**Recommendations to others considering Oracle Linux:**

Knowing normal Linux, you won't have a problem adapting; you'll learn the small variations right away.

**What problems is Oracle Linux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

software deployment and real-time builds

**Reviewed Date:** October 31, 2018

**What do you like best about Oracle Linux?**

Being an Oracle database Solution Architect since 10 years, i have a preference to use Oracle products if they are really good. Oracle Linux is very well suited for Oracle products like Oracle EBS Suite and Oracle Database. Although, you can run these products on other supported OS like RedHat but certain features like smart scan for Exadata is only supported on Oracle Linux.

**What do you dislike about Oracle Linux?**

The slow GUI. If you happen to use GUI interface of Oracle Linux, it's slow sometimes.

**What problems is Oracle Linux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using Oracle Linux for our database servers and ERP server hosting Oracle E-Business Suite. The support is pretty cheap and is fairly simple for anyone with RedHat background.

**What do you dislike about Oracle Linux?**

It does not have anything new, it is Bassically linux red hat

**What problems is Oracle Linux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Oracle dbms hosting, its faster to deploy an on premise oracle db in oracle linux than any other OS.

  ### 50. Stability and security of Oracle Linux

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Telecommunications | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 21, 2018

**What do you like best about Oracle Linux?**

I like how flexible it is to create commands and use them in configuring and using Oracle Database 10. I tried using Oracle 10g on Windows, but it's not as flexible as Oracle Solaris.

**What do you dislike about Oracle Linux?**

The aspect of learning so many commands can be tiring; its hard to work around some concepts if you are not familiar with the necessary commands.

**What problems is Oracle Linux solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I wanted to scale the nodes of my company's network. Since Oracle Linux is optimized for performance, it is easy to scale very easily. The exception is only when I use RAC. I have to tune based on the nodes I am working with.
