  ### 24. Oracle Db

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Telecommunications | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 31, 2019

**What do you like best about Oracle Database?**

Grouping Transactions
The ability to group several transactions into the same batch for processing sets Oracle apart from its competitors.
Microsoft's version of SQL is limited to executing each transaction individually in a sequential order. This gives Oracle SQL far greater scalability over sequential versions of SQL, which are limited to only expanding vertically. Vertical expansion can be significantly more expensive than horizontal expansion. Expanding vertically requires the addition of server memory, hard drive capacity and ventilation equipment. Oracle can expand horizontally by clustering transactions for more efficient processing.

Improved Performance
In addition to batch processing of transactions, Oracle offers other methods of improving your database's performance. You can use multiple servers to work on the same database with the Real Application Cluster feature. This can significantly increase your processing power for only the price of an additional server. Oracle SQL also gives you more options to fine-tune the operation of your database to suit the capabilities of your server.

Versatility
Oracle SQL gives you the flexibility of choosing to run your database in any operating system. Dedicated languages are only compatible with operating systems from the same manufacturer. For example, you can only run Microsoft SQL Server on a Windows-based machine. In comparison, you can install Oracle SQL on a Unix server and benefit from the reliability of Unix while keeping the standardization of SQL. Unix is less vulnerable to many common computer viruses, which keeps your information secure. Oracle SQL is also backward-compatible, so you have the option of upgrading in the future without losing any data.

**What do you dislike about Oracle Database?**

Cost
The cost of operating Oracle SQL puts it at a disadvantage in comparison to other versions of SQL. The cost difference starts with the licensing fees, which may be up to ten times as high for Oracle. Because Oracle SQL is such a complex and highly specialized language, it can be difficult to find qualified database administrators to run your system. When you do find a suitable candidate, expect to pay two or three times more in salary than you would pay a comparable Microsoft or PostgreSQL administrator.

Difficulty
Oracle SQL is also more difficult to learn and operate than its competitors. A user-friendly version such as SQL Server is easy to install and set up with a minimum of customization. It includes five sample databases you can use as a framework for your own company's information. Microsoft also provides Visual Studio-based SQL Server management tools to help you modify the database's design, change the data it contains and execute queries.

**What problems is Oracle Database solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Oracle to store our data. Grouping transactions, versatility and improved performance are some of the advantages of the Oracle db.

  ### 38. Oracle Database 12 c Review

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Government Administration | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 22, 2019

**What do you like best about Oracle Database?**

Ease of updating from ongoing forms (10g/11g) to empower expanded help application lifecycles. This is extremely basic to most establishments, since client re-testing will be limited, and existing authoritative aptitudes are utilized in the new form without a lofty expectation to learn and adapt. 12c is an entirely steady discharge. As far back as support in the early Beta cycles, we stressed to Prophet, our need to not return to stretched out bugfix cycles endeavoring to inspire an early discharge variant to work underway situations experienced in numerous past releases.12c's inner programmed execution the executives highlights have enhanced over 11g, with fewer re-modifications always happening enabling the database to adjust to changing interest prerequisites, (for example, OLTP amid the day, however, overwhelming OLAP around evening time) and not agonizing over the overhead of empowering highlights, for example, AMM (programmed memory the executives) or ASM (the capacity related proportionately) and viewing the database will in general battle with itself attempting to upgrade the settings.

**What do you dislike about Oracle Database?**

12c is a feature-laden installation. The impression of the product (Prophet Home) alone is about 4+GB, with no information stockpiling included, which deciphers, as most new items appear to underline, into you're getting everything in one box. While the underlying Prophet All inclusive Installer experience can be as basic as picking one of 2 pre-characterized database layouts and navigating 5 [Next] catches, the hop to picking the third alternative (a Propelled Establishment) goes from those 5 screens to more than 35, which may overpower another client needing to simply introduce a database to help an acquired application. I'd by and by prefer to see Prophet transport pre-designed formats with its own applications to give new installers a choice of picking an application-improved adaptation layout to additionally accelerate the underlying setup process.

**Recommendations to others considering Oracle Database:**

An incredible stage for any adv application, that must be versatile, multi-stage, and surely supporting a large number of data related innovations, regardless of whether Java, XML, advanced analytics, or high-accessibility.

**What problems is Oracle Database solving and how is that benefiting you?**
