"A Database that Rewards Good Architecture and Operational Discipline"

5/5

What do you like best about Oracle Database?

Oracle Database gives me confidence when an application needs to handle important transactional data without frequent intervention. I particularly appreciate the maturity of its SQL capabilities, indexing options, transaction management, and the tools available for diagnosing performance issues. It also gives administrators a lot of control over how workloads are tuned, rather than forcing everything into a fixed approach. For applications where data consistency and predictable database behavior are important, Oracle has been a dependable choice for me. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Oracle Database?

The learning curve is still one of the hardest drawbacks. There are many features and configuration options, but understanding which ones are actually appropriate for a particular workload takes experience.

Administration can also become complicated when the environment grows and involves backup, replication, security, monitoring and performance tuning.

Licensing and infrastructure costs can also make Oracle difficult to justifyn for smaller applications where a simpler database would be different. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Oracle Database solving and how is that benefiting you?

Oracle Database helps us manage business applications where data consistency, reporting, and transaction reliability are all important at the same time. In one of our applications, we use it to store transactional records while multiple application modules access and update the same data concurrently.

It has also helped us reduce the amount of application-side logic needed for complex data operations. We can keep validations, stored procedures, indexing, and reporting queries closer to the database, which makes certain processes easier to maintain over time. Its performance-monitoring and diagnostic capabilities are also useful when a particular query or transaction starts taking longer than expected. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Enterprise-Grade Reliability, Security, and Scalability with Oracle Database"

5/5

What do you like best about Oracle Database?

What I like most about Oracle Database is its reliability. In our environment, we run business-critical applications, and Oracle has consistently delivered stable performance with very minimal downtime. Even as the database grows and user load increases, it continues to perform well without causing major performance issues. The database engine is highly optimized for enterprise workloads, making it a dependable platform for applications that require high availability and consistent response times.

From a usability perspective, Oracle provides a well-designed administrative experience through tools such as Oracle Enterprise Manager and SQL Developer. While there is a learning curve for new administrators, the interface becomes intuitive with experience and offers comprehensive monitoring, performance analysis, and management capabilities.

Security is another area where Oracle excels. Features such as Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), role-based access control, auditing, backup and recovery, and advanced security options help protect sensitive business data and ensure compliance with enterprise security standards. These capabilities give us confidence that our data remains secure and can be recovered quickly in the event of an issue.

Scalability is a major advantage. As business requirements expand, Oracle allows us to scale both vertically and horizontally without needing to migrate to a different platform. Enterprise features like Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) for high availability and Oracle Data Guard for disaster recovery make it an excellent choice for organizations where uptime and business continuity are critical.

Oracle Database also integrates well with other Oracle products and a wide range of third-party enterprise applications. Whether connecting with ERP systems, analytics platforms, cloud services, or backup solutions, the integration capabilities make it easier to build and manage complex enterprise environments.

Performance tuning and monitoring are among Oracle's strongest areas. Built-in diagnostic tools, Automatic Workload Repository (AWR), Automatic Database Diagnostic Monitor (ADDM), and SQL performance analysis help identify bottlenecks quickly and optimize workloads efficiently. These capabilities reduce administrative effort and improve overall system performance.

Oracle has also introduced AI-powered capabilities across its database ecosystem, including intelligent performance recommendations, automated tuning, anomaly detection, and machine learning integration. These features help database administrators automate routine tasks, identify potential issues proactively, and improve operational efficiency.

In terms of pricing, Oracle Database is positioned as a premium enterprise solution. Licensing costs can be significant, particularly for advanced editions and features, but the return on investment is strong for organizations running mission-critical applications that require high performance, security, scalability, and minimal downtime. The platform's stability and feature set often justify the investment over the long term.

Oracle's support ecosystem is another strength. The documentation is comprehensive, and Oracle Support provides access to patches, knowledge articles, and technical assistance. Initial deployment and onboarding typically require experienced DBAs due to the platform's complexity, but once implemented, the environment is stable, manageable, and well supported.

Overall, despite its higher licensing costs and administrative complexity, Oracle Database delivers exceptional reliability, performance, security, scalability, integration capabilities, AI-driven intelligence, and enterprise-grade features. It remains one of the best choices for organizations operating mission-critical workloads where availability, data protection, and long-term scalability are essential. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Oracle Database?

One area where Oracle Database could improve is its licensing model. Licensing and support costs are quite high, especially for small and mid-sized organizations, and in many cases it’s difficult to justify the investment unless you’re running business-critical applications that truly require Oracle’s enterprise capabilities.

Another challenge is the steep learning curve. Installation, configuration, performance tuning, patching, and troubleshooting generally require experienced DBAs, and for teams new to Oracle, day-to-day administration can feel more complex than with some other database platforms.

I also think Oracle could do a better job of simplifying its licensing policies and management tools. At times, the licensing rules across different editions and features are confusing, so organizations have to be extremely careful to stay compliant.

That said, these aren’t major drawbacks for large enterprises. When the environment is well designed and managed by experienced professionals, Oracle Database delivers excellent stability, security, and performance. The upfront complexity and cost are essentially the trade-offs for an enterprise-grade platform that remains highly reliable for mission-critical workloads. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Oracle Database solving and how is that benefiting you?

Oracle Database addresses one of our biggest challenges: managing large volumes of business-critical data securely and efficiently. We rely on it for applications where downtime isn’t an option, so stability and high availability are essential. It has helped us maintain consistent performance even as our data and transaction volumes continue to grow.

Data security is another major advantage. Oracle offers strong security capabilities such as encryption, access controls, auditing, and dependable backup and recovery options. These features help us protect sensitive business information and meet compliance requirements, and they give us confidence that our data stays secure and can be restored quickly if an unexpected issue occurs.

Operationally, Oracle Database has noticeably reduced performance problems and database-related outages. Features like Data Guard, RAC, and advanced performance monitoring support business continuity and help minimize downtime during maintenance as well as during unexpected failures.

Overall, Oracle Database provides a dependable platform for running mission-critical applications. Rather than worrying about database stability or potential data loss, our team can focus on delivering business solutions, knowing the database infrastructure is secure, scalable, and able to handle our growing workload. What do you like best about Oracle Database?

Very easy to use- as a layman on the software I grasped the basic concepts and could navigate through the dashboard easily without any formal training.

I used it frequently as during my audit procedures for a US client. I had the access to the client's profile. At times in case we faced any issues we contacted the customer support through email or submitted a request and received response usually within 24 hours.

The client during 2020 transitioned from Netsuite to Oracle and the implementation process was very smooth and easy.

Further, the application could be easily integrated to other softwares used by the company- such as leasequery and could be assessed through Oracle. Overall, in my opinion it was the best system ever used. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Oracle Database?

I personally faced issues with report generation—it felt a bit complicated and tedious to figure out which report is meant for which purpose and what results each one will produce.

Similarly the journal entry recording process is a bit tidious. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Oracle Database solving and how is that benefiting you?

I used Oracle as a part of my audit procedures. I used the database of client to download the info from Oracle directly and use as a part of my audit. It made our work seemless as it was a storage house of all information related to the business at one place. One stop shop- for all the reports, information, GL, receivables payables details- everything was easily accessible. Overall, it was very easy to understand without any formal training of the same. Having such databases which are so easy to figure out and work on are a boon for businesses. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
