I use tree tests and card sorting studies for quantitative research multiple times per year. It's easy to setup studies and the OW tools are best in class and very flexible. Analysing results using their visualisations make it easy to spot insight. Exporting the results into my own spreadsheets for further analysis is straightforward. How they're injecting AI into areas that offer no value. Placing images into survey questions is too basic and they're hard to adjust. The analysis tools for card sorting and treejack testing in particular have no equal. I've explored other tools in this space for information architecture work and these are the reason I've never truely considered switching. Being able to have access to so many metrics and ways of looking at the data makes it easy to conduct detailed synthesis and draw concrete conclusions. The times I have needed customer support and have been able to have a direct web chat or email chain with a person have been incredibly positive. The lack of logic / quotas for recruitment severely restricts the value of using Optimal Workshop recruitment. For example, I am unable to divide a 100 participant study to gather a set quote of 50 participants from group A and 50 participants from group B. While I am able to screen participants I am unable to select specific quotas for different screener questions and pathways, the screener is binary either you pass or are rejected from the study. We have tried work arounds by creating two seperate studies for different groups however the inability to combine studies means results need to be analysed outside of OW losing access to the analysis tools. Having this address would greatly open up our recruitment options and improve the tool exponentially for research involving multiple segments, especially for web or digital IA work as there are often multiple segments and user types we want to test with. Optimal provides a great interface to work with. I have used it for many UX research sessions and it feels great to have a tool which helps you conduct various research methods. The UI itself is very intuitive and easy to understand. It handholds the user at pretty everywhere within the product. When setting up the research, I needed to change the order or wanted a certain type of input which I couldn’t add. I will say that’s something which can be improved. Initially the survey tool but with the latest updates its a lot more what we need and very happy with it now Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What problems is Optimal solving and how is that benefiting you? We began using Optimal in its early form during the Covid pandemic, when we urgently needed a user research tool that could support both moderated and unmoderated testing, especially at a time when face to face research simply wasn’t possible. What started as a temporary solution soon proved indispensable. Our UCD community found Optimal so valuable that we’ve continued with it ever since. Among the suite of tools, the Insights function quickly became the standout. Once our researchers had the chance to explore it in depth which was helped by workshops that Optimal kindly ran for our teams and it transformed how we worked. Now, six years on, both the tool and our relationship with Optimal have matured. The platform has continued to evolve with innovative updates, and just as importantly, the company has taken the time to understand our work and collaborate with us closely. Their team has joined our internal talks, shared their vision for user-centred design, and crucially listened to our feedback.
