## OPSWAT Filescan Reviews
  ### 1. Easy drag-and-drop to scan (Updated)

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Hiro M. | Piano / Music theory Instructor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 03, 2022

**What do you like best about OPSWAT Filescan?**

OPSWAT Filescan's Sandbox is a nifty little collection of tools you can use to further analyze file security threats. I find it pretty speedy, also, and that makes it more desirable.

**What do you dislike about OPSWAT Filescan?**

I would really like for the 100MB filesize restriction to be updated for the community edition. By today's standards this has become more restrictive.

**What problems is OPSWAT Filescan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

You always want to be careful with Microsoft document files and Excel files etc. because someone could embed malicious codes in them. It's great to have this free tool to help you stay reassured. It gives you a great insight as to what URLs and word strings are embedded so it's educational as well. Also, it can detect file types for files without extensions.

  ### 2. best software to ensure you are using safe files

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shubham S. | Co-Founder, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 15, 2023

**What do you like best about OPSWAT Filescan?**

One new thing I’ve started appreciating about OPSWAT FileScan is its multi-engine scanning capability, which gives an added layer of confidence since files are checked against multiple antivirus engines instead of just one. I also like the detailed reporting it provides after each scan, making it easier to understand potential threats and take action quickly. The improved speed and smoother interface updates have made the overall experience more efficient and reliable for daily use.

**What do you dislike about OPSWAT Filescan?**

While OPSWAT FileScan works really well for my needs, one area that could be improved is increasing the maximum file upload size, especially for larger documents or media files. It would also be helpful to have more customization in scan settings or deeper threat analysis details for advanced users. Expanding integration options with other security or workflow tools could further enhance its usability in more complex environments.

**What problems is OPSWAT Filescan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Filescan has helped me ensure that the files I use are safe and are not a threat to the safety of my system. Since its free to use, I recommend that many people use it as its easy for everyone.

  ### 3. Efficient Malware Analysis with Minor Setup Tweaks

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tudor M. | Cyber Security Analyst (Incident Response)

**Reviewed Date:** January 28, 2026

**What do you like best about OPSWAT Filescan?**

I primarily use OPSWAT Filescan for high-speed, automated malware analysis and threat indicator extraction, which is a big plus. I appreciate that it eliminates the sandbox bottleneck by using emulation-based analysis. It's great that it automates stuff when dealing with a lot of indicators. I really like how it maps directly to the MITRE ATT&CK framework, providing the team with actionable context and allowing us to identify intent and prioritize our response based on behavior rather than file hashes or names. The docker-based deployment also helped us get the core running quite rapidly.

**What do you dislike about OPSWAT Filescan?**

One of the main issues is initial config and file-type support, it sometimes requires manual tuning for more obscure formats.

**What problems is OPSWAT Filescan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OPSWAT Filescan for high-speed, automated malware analysis and extracting threat indicators. It solves the sandbox bottleneck by using emulation based analysis, making it easier to automate. Mapping to the MITRE ATT&CK framework gives actionable context and helps identify intent.

**Reviewed Date:** July 03, 2025

**What do you like best about OPSWAT Filescan?**

FileScan.io stands out as a next-generation malware analysis solution, leveraging OPSWAT’s MetaDefender Sandbox technology for high-speed, resource-efficient file scanning. The platform processes files up to ten times faster than traditional sandboxes while using 90% fewer resources,

Multi-Engine Threat Detection: Scans files against numerous antivirus engines, increasing the likelihood of detecting novel or polymorphic threats.

Detailed Behavioral Analysis: Generates comprehensive reports that outline file behaviors, potential risks, and specific indicators of compromise.

Broad File Type Support: Handles a wide range of file formats, including executables, documents, and archives.

API and CLI Access: Offers robust integration options through a RESTful API and a Python-based CL.

Sandbox Emulation: Emulates file execution in isolated environments to observe malicious behaviors without risk to production systems.

**What do you dislike about OPSWAT Filescan?**

UI is less intuitive than some competing tools, which can slow down adoption for team members who are not already familiar with advanced malware analysis platforms. The added complexity means there’s a learning curve before getting the most out of the system.
I have also noticed that false positives occasionally occur, leading to extra manual review of files that are actually safe.

**What problems is OPSWAT Filescan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Implementing FileScan.io has allowed my organization to rapidly identify and mitigate file-based threats before they impact critical systems.

The platform’s speed and efficiency have streamlined incident response workflows, reducing the time required to assess suspicious files and enabling faster remediation.

The detailed reporting and API integrations have improved our ability to track, analyze, and share threat intelligence across teams, enhancing overall security posture and operational resilience.

FileScan.IO is extremely quick in generating a report, which contains a high-level overview of extracted IOCs, matched YARA rules and threat indicators. The execution graph and adaptive dynamic analysis (e.g., to bypass geofencing) make it a stellar experience.

**What do you dislike about OPSWAT Filescan?**

They are still missing a private cloud (SaaS) commercial offering. Otherwise, the community edition is fantastic and we are discussing integration of the on premise product.

**What problems is OPSWAT Filescan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

  ### 20. Simple and efficient protection for microentrepreneurs

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pirkko A. | Independent Real Estate Professional, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2022

**What do you like best about OPSWAT Filescan?**

As a microentrepreneur, I am always on the look out for several suppliers that balances low prices but quality effects for my cleaning business. With my email in public, I get solicitations/offers on a daily basis - and with me out of the office at times with limited connection, sometimes my email's antivirus scanning does not work. With this however, I can simply have the files scanned before I open it to protect myself from any breaching.

**What do you dislike about OPSWAT Filescan?**

This may seem different / petty, but with plenty of phishing / hacking efforts using very direct and vague names, I was also hesitant to try it at first. But through the recommendation of a friend, I tried it, and was very happy with it.

**What problems is OPSWAT Filescan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a budding microentrepreneur, I am always looking for various suppliers - and this entails receiving plenty of offers in different file types. This allows me to get peace of mind because I can further check for any data breaching threats and ensure I can focus on my work.

The best part of FileScan is that it offers both a detailed and rough report of the scan, giving great insight into the threat types and an in-depth showcase of Indicators of Compromise, File details, and much more.

**What do you dislike about OPSWAT Filescan?**

Given that the service is free and does its job as listed in the page description, there is nothing I dislike about it. However, one minor improvement of increasing filesize would be grand.

**What problems is OPSWAT Filescan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

FileScan.IO has saved me from opening untrustworthy websites and encountering phishing attacks and potential forced-download encounters. Furthermore, given the service offers to scan up to 100MB of both file and webpage content, it greatly helps when encountering suspicious files or false-flagged filed on any computer or phone.

  ### 26. Complete File analysis solution- FileScan.IO

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mayank V. | Senior Software Engineer - Streaming TV, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 06, 2022

**What do you like best about OPSWAT Filescan?**

Exposing vulnerabilities and threats within a file (Indicators of compromise) and showing detailed analysis of every function and API call within a file.
In the end, it gives a clear verdict if the file is malicious, suspicious, or clean, which quickly helps to decide whether to trust the file.

**What do you dislike about OPSWAT Filescan?**

There is no defintion/description of the vulnerabilities which are detected. A little explanation/definition should be given with a question mark symbol or "i" symbol, such that when you hover over the symbol, the vulnerability's definition will appear. It is a necessary feature that is missing.

**What problems is OPSWAT Filescan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Filescan.IO helps us scan any files we receive from our third party partners via Gdrive or s3/gs uploads. Helps us quickly decide whether the files are safe; if not , we ask the partners to re-upload the file stating that the files are malicious/suspicious and we also share the filescan report generated by Filescan.io.

**Reviewed Date:** November 04, 2022

**What do you like best about OPSWAT Filescan?**

We began using FileScan.io after receiving suspicious attachments. It is an excellent addition if you download files from sources you don't completely trust (which should be all of them). It's a minor inconvenience, especially considering how much trouble it can save you.

**What do you dislike about OPSWAT Filescan?**

There's nothing to dislike. No single solution can guarantee total safety. Don't let any software, however advanced, lull you into a false sense of security.

**What problems is OPSWAT Filescan solving and how is that benefiting you?**

FileScan.IO lets users analyze files without downloading them onto their computers. Assuming you have a "normal" configuration and a common operating system, this is extremely helpful. Getting the wrong bug on your PC is not fun.
