## About OpenText Professional Performance Engineering
LoadRunner is the industry-standard software solution for application performance and load testing. LoadRunner emulates hundreds or thousands of concurrent virtual users, with minimal hardware, to apply accurate workloads to any application. As it drives load against the system, LoadRunner captures end-user response times for business processes and transactions to determine whether the application can meet the required service-level agreements. Nonintrusive, real-time performance monitors captures real-time performance data from every component of application infrastructure. After the test completes, the LoadRunner analysis engine provides a single view of end-user response time and infrastructure-level performance to identify the most likely causes of performance issues. **What do you like best about OpenText Professional Performance Engineering?**

* The number of supported protocols for testing, there is literary support for testing all kinds of applications
* Easy for beginners to learn, Trueclient Web protocol with recording by point and click on Web makes it fast to create scripts
* the types of testing supported, you can even use the product to do API testing instead of using Postman
* The product bundle is amazing, by buying the product today it includes SiteScope which is the most powerful monitoring solution and also Service Virtalization (7 services) which you can use to mimic missing test systems.

* The analytics tool of which you can dive deep into the result and find root causes for bad performance and the great ability to create reports.

I highly recommend this product

**What do you dislike about OpenText Professional Performance Engineering?**

* Sometimea there are small bugs in the VuGen script error where it throws compilation errors first time and then you compile the same and it works.
* Some people thinks it hard to learn, but becoming a senior expert in Prrformanxe Testing takes a lot of experience, a single to does not make you an expert.
* In some project they want to use Open Source software instead to safe money, but Loadrunner now comes with a community edition which you can use, there can with a purchase of the product be tough for some projects to fully understand the license model and what options to pick.

**What problems is OpenText Professional Performance Engineering solving and how is that benefiting you?**

* It has solved all my challenges for performance and non-functional testing since I started using the product in 2003.
* It has helped me in over 50 projects to validate the SLA prior to go live in production, has always found issues in each project which by shift left has saves all companies tons of money and potential badwill by customer and employees.

  ### 3. A very professional tool to leverage the full length of performance testing!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 31, 2022

**What do you like best about OpenText Professional Performance Engineering?**

The protocol support is pretty good, also love the control and power to set up and execute scenarios to emulate real-world interactions. Once all is done, the analytics are also very good to understand pain points.

**What do you dislike about OpenText Professional Performance Engineering?**

It may be considered a little hard to use, and quite a lot of settings, and options may create a painful experience even for the senior testers. The price is also something to look at, because there are quite a few competitors in the open-source market.

**What problems is OpenText Professional Performance Engineering solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Internal training to teammates was easy. Simulating real users' load in environments about to be deployed, it makes it easier to identify pain points before the real users may experience them. Tests can be run pretty straightforwardly, with lots of configurations and very good analytics at the end.

  ### 7. Performance testing tool with great breadth of support and credibility.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Sporting Goods | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 31, 2020

**What do you like best about OpenText Professional Performance Engineering?**

Good use of human time. No peer tool which supports SQL Server, Oracle,Java, Web etc. Identify bottlenecks of hardware, software, infrastructure, memory etc using good analysis window for response time and throughput. Separation of script, generator, controller and agents. Set ramp up and ramp down strategy as needed.Agent can do things like IP spoofing to make look like load is coming from diff machines. Checkpoints can be image or text. Rendezvous points instruct users to wait during test execution for other users in order to perform the tasks simultaneously. Love that!

**What do you dislike about OpenText Professional Performance Engineering?**

Tool is not open source and expensive. Also Vuser scripts saved in C which is case sensitive. You need to be really cognizant about co-relations planned to be used. Protocol advisor could have been more helpful. Also make sure caching is disabled while running tests. Configuration is little tough to figure out.

**Recommendations to others considering OpenText Professional Performance Engineering:**

Nice tool to conduct performance testing and benchmark your other tools. Although learning curve is not steep but the pricing curve is. As said need to be aware of relations while using record playback feature. Also regularly use rendezvous and think statements. Also make sure to add regular comments in code in order for maintainability. Correlation is capture output from prv step and use it as input.

**What problems is OpenText Professional Performance Engineering solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Testing performance of web applications and RESTAPIs. Great support as said earlier. Fantastic ways to parameterize your inputs and see analysis of response time distribution. VuGen is UI independent and focuses on HTTP requests only. Capability to add user data points and regenerate code. Controller helps to add think time, delays etc. Most favorite part is load simulated from other machines, throttling etc Also the part where you can simulate browser like environment by adding proxies and cookies is fantastic in my opinion. Analysis engine shows response time distribution. It can also be run on public cloud infrastructures.Tightly coupled with HP-ALM and can also import scripts from other tools like Jmeter.

**Reviewed Date:** March 28, 2017

**What do you like best about OpenText Professional Performance Engineering?**

versatility, support, ease of use, cloud support

**What do you dislike about OpenText Professional Performance Engineering?**

Extremely expensive, upgrades are a nightmare, complicated installation procedure. No built in monitoring solution. Everything has to be purchased and implemented separately leading to a lot of delays and additional costs. Support, though good is extremely expensive especially if you need 24 x 7 support. Administrators must be experts, else installation, upgrades and regular maintenance will be a very painful task.

**Recommendations to others considering OpenText Professional Performance Engineering:**

Though there are several tools available in the market for load / performance testing, LoadRunner has established a niche market for itself thanks to the trust that customers have established with the sort of detailed that it has to offer. LoadRunner also is able to integrate with other HP Tools (SiteScope, ALM, Performance Center to name a few) as well as non-HP tools such as DynaTrace (albeit with a little bit of coding experience)! LoadRunner also has Cloud support with HP Helion and Amazon AWS. For people who do not want to spend a lot on LoadRunner, there is a community edition that is available for free. Users can also look at StormRunner which is similar, but not as versatile as LoadRunner is for first time use since the cost is less than a 10th of what LoadRunner is!

**What problems is OpenText Professional Performance Engineering solving and how is that benefiting you?**

By implementing HP LoadRunner and by including performance testing as part of the sdlc, we are able to find potential issues before they occur. By being able to use cloud hosted load generators, we are also able to get a feel of how external users tend to experience the product

  ### 29. Best load testing ever seen, easy to use and most Accurate real user emulation

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Arjun B. | Technical Consultant - QA, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 01, 2016

**What do you like best about OpenText Professional Performance Engineering?**

Performance testing is a type of non-functional testing activity that is carried out to determine an application’s response time, behavior and overall performance. LoadRunner is one of the most widely used performance-testing tools since it uses minimal hardware resources and is extremely efficient. Flexible and versatile scripting engine to extend tests with success-failure checks, thus making testing more intelligent. Ramping of many concurrent users to make the most representative testing possible. Integration of external measurements in test scenario's. Extensive vendor documentation and help system included. Extensive experience and support on various fora, blogs and many other support resources. Good availability of expertise in the form of programmers and hardcore testers.

**What do you dislike about OpenText Professional Performance Engineering?**

1) Cost is the major factor that should be considered by HP because it prevents many users from using this product. Despite many advantages of Loadrunner, other open source alternate solutions like Neoload are mostly used.
2) It takes lots time in scripting, if the test cases are very complex, it can take even days to make one script. Re-usability of these complex scripts also becomes a complex job, mostly when the application build are changing frequently. The tool always demands a script modification or re-scripting, in case of changes in application build.
3) Complexity. LoadRunner is not simple to learn by installing it and "doing it". Especially when using different data sources to do cross measurements of system performance. Performance testing with a tool like this requires planning and skilled resources. Fortunately these are easily acquired these days.

**Recommendations to others considering OpenText Professional Performance Engineering:**

LoadRunner, when used judiciously can give you an accurate picture of end-to-end system/application performance. When used in the development cycle, all the performance bottlenecks can be easily identified and eliminated.

  ### 31. LoadRunner solved our need for Automation and simplified our testing and saved time.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 22, 2016

**What do you like best about OpenText Professional Performance Engineering?**

I like the simplicity of using the tool, the integration with reporting, graphs and the overall time it saves during testing phases. LoadRunner has not only helped the team be more accurate, complete and precise with testing we can cover more during our testing phase and provide detailed reporting to upper management on our testing status. Using LoadRunner allows us to focus on other areas of the project with the time saved during testing. Working with our developers also helps us to provide more testing coverage of the code using LoadRunner. LoadRunner has been very ease to learn and even our most beginner/junior level tester can learn the product and apply it to their testing tasks. Test case management is also a GREAT help, it helps us all to be more organized and we all follow the same setup and unlike sing word/ms office we all have the same layout.

**What do you dislike about OpenText Professional Performance Engineering?**

I don't like the pricing and the amount of time it takes sometimes to resolve issues when the product encounters errors and we need to get HP involved for support. There have been times where we had to wait days to get an issue resolved only to realize all we had to do was restart the server or refresh the cache on the HP server.

**Recommendations to others considering OpenText Professional Performance Engineering:**

Learn the basics and provide several user sessions to get your team(s) knowledgeable of the tool and to expose all the benefits of using the tool and how important it can be in the project plan/life cycle. It's also great to point out the time it can save with automation testing verses manual testing, which the saved time can be utilized in other areas of the project.

**What problems is OpenText Professional Performance Engineering solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are solving a timing issue with our testing tasks by using LoadRunner. The project teams were always giving us the smallest amount of time to get our testing done but there were large amounts of testing that needed to be done. Using LoadRunner, we have cut down our testing time to half of the time it took manually and can now be more accurate and complete with our testing efforts. The time we are saving is used in other areas of the project mainly getting the product to our consumers quicker and allowing them to do more UAT testing before roll-out. LoadRunner is also useful in test case management, design and documentation. This tools helps us to all be consistent and follow the same guidelines. Organization on the project has improved greatly.

  ### 32. HP Loadrunner review

It is a very powerful scripting tool to best record user actions programmatically with a flexible and versatile scripting engine to extend tests with success-failure checks, thus making testing more intelligent.

**What do you dislike about OpenText Professional Performance Engineering?**

Complexity. LoadRunner is not simple to learn by installing it and "doing it". Especially when using different data sources to do cross measurements of system performance. Performance testing with a tool like this requires planning and skilled resources.

**Recommendations to others considering OpenText Professional Performance Engineering:**

HP offers extensive documentation and support services to help its customer base.

**What problems is OpenText Professional Performance Engineering solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Performance testing of our system is a customer requirement that could not be done without the use of a robust testing tool.

  ### 33. The best in Performance Testing and Load Testing

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Delfin D. | QA Manager, Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 18, 2015

**What do you like best about OpenText Professional Performance Engineering?**

Best perfomance testing tool.
Test results generated by the tool are really awesome
Best in class test run features. A truly professional performance tester can produce a lot of benefit out of it.
Test case design and debugging is very easy.
The coolest feature in the tool is that Performance tester can adjust the applied load on the go. In many of the other industry leading tools, we have set those parameters prior to the test and it cant be changed at any point in time.

**What do you dislike about OpenText Professional Performance Engineering?**

The programming language is not that very popular.

**Recommendations to others considering OpenText Professional Performance Engineering:**

If you are looking for perfect performance testing tool, Load Runner is the best choice. This brings value for money for organizations.

**What problems is OpenText Professional Performance Engineering solving and how is that benefiting you?**

  ### 37. My 8 years association with HP Loadrunner

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Raja Shekar B. | Professional: Product Test, Information Technology and Services, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 21, 2015

**What do you like best about OpenText Professional Performance Engineering?**

I believe demand is always directly proportional to quality of the product which is why I believe Loadrunner has been on top of the line thorough these many years of it's journey. HP Loadrunner is very user friendly, flexible and highly customizable.

**What do you dislike about OpenText Professional Performance Engineering?**

I cannot specifically point out to a single or specific dislike. I have used many open source and paid tools through my career. Apart from the fact that cost of licensing is one big goal to choose LR; I find managing the C code for huge application (in terms of many tricky business cases) needs more expertise in coding and handling the tool.

**Recommendations to others considering OpenText Professional Performance Engineering:**

If you need comfort and speed in achieving the automation goal with precision and have budget then I would recommend HP Loadrunner.

**What problems is OpenText Professional Performance Engineering solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I used LR for a variety of product domains including E-Learning, E-Commerce etc. Most of the scenarios demands high throughout and variety of complex logic to automate and Loadrunner always played key role in getting this done. As I mentioned the major challenge is using 'C' coding for HTTP/HTML protocol which turn tricky and needs expertise to handle the complex scenarios well without crashing or consuming more Loadrunner infrastructure.
