It is sort of the de facto standard for just about anything that is going to encrypt things to be stored or sent over a network. **What do you dislike about OpenSSL?** Entire project could be completely refactored while preserving the library api's Documentation on command line usage is not usually the best Code examples are not very well explained **Recommendations to others considering OpenSSL:** I would recommend OpenSSL for just about any kind of cryptographic operations that you may need. I can't think of a particular situation where it would not be appropriate to use OpenSSL for a cryptographic function of some sort or another. If you are going to provide some sort of encryption service in a product, OpenSSL is probably the best way to get it off the ground and going. With other competitors, you may get it working, but I fear long term support and interoperability will be an issue **What problems is OpenSSL solving and how is that benefiting you?** Integrates into just about everything Codebase is well managed and follows predictable paths Although there are alternatives, OpenSSL is vastly better supported ### 3. What I like the most is that it is totally free software. Another feature that I like is that its installation is very simple and there is extensive documentation on the use and creation of certificates. **What do you dislike about OpenSSL?** Sometimes OpenSSL is installed integrated with programs like Cygwin and the software has trouble finding its configuration file, so it is necessary to set its variables before trying to generate any certificate. **Recommendations to others considering OpenSSL:** OpenSSL is the most reliable and easy to use security certificate creation solution you will find. It is free software available for different operating systems. I recommend it. **What problems is OpenSSL solving and how is that benefiting you?** We use OpenSSL to create and renew the security certificates requested by our payment gateway provider, so that our website allows our customers to make purchases safely. It is a really efficient and simple tool.
