It has the Drag-and-Drop routine for the toolbars; so, if I ever want to re-arrange my window, I can. All fonts, are provided and supported. Macros can be written; also, the Extensions can be installed. The Draw and Impress files, can be exported as SVG or EPS files, which can be edited with Inkscape and GIMP. Most of the frequently used features, are available and compatible across all the other software providers. Even a database can be made and maintained, after installing the suitable JRE (Java Runtime Environment). Custom Animations of Impress are also a remarkable advantage, with compatibility across other office apps. I was able to save a Mathematical expression in MathML format. OpenOffice 4's default file formats, are supported by other major players in this space. Majority of the Reports, Spreadsheets, Slideshows as well as the Drawings, can be made with this software. Besides the ease of exporting your main file, in the PDF or HTML formats; OpenOffice lets you have a full command over your content and the formatting, which comes as a Premium bundle in the Freemium apps. **What do you dislike about OpenOffice?** PivotTable and the charts containing the Data Labels are not fully supported by ODS format, of OpenOffice CalC. At least, MS Excel 2016 won't support them; as per the Microsoft's help-article about the differences between the ODS and XLSX formats. That article has noted, that a Password-protected Sheet, shouldn't be saved in ODS. Presuming the same is true, for other open file formats; it might put off some Businesspersons. It is easy to understand why JRE (Java) has to be installed, to make OpenOffice Base work. You need it if you wish to handle Databases. However, most of the users are better off staying away from installing Java on their machines. It has become safer; but the Database option should have been hidden in the Settings, speaking personally of course. The User Interface could be improved, for aligning it with the modern Design Philosophies. The younger users might be seriously disappointed, because of the current User Interface. The files can be saved in DOC, PPT, XLS, ODB, ODG, ODF formats; as a result, when you open them in MS Office, they are opened either in the Compatibility Mode, or the Protected View mode. I don't think, that my clients or employers are going to be okay, if such words appear in their Window header. So, you might want to convert them into DOCX, PPTX, XLSX etc. before sharing those files with your network. Also, keep a note for the OpenOffice version, and mostly it will be 32-bit for Windows PC, if I am not being incorrect. Why? Because then, you need to download the 32-bit JRE even if you are on a 64-bit system, for using OpenOffice Base (databases). I wish if they improve it, in these aspects. **What problems is OpenOffice solving and how is that benefiting you?** It has no Software costs; so, the additional savings for a Office Suite software licence, can be re-invested in other activities. Most licences these days, are based on Recurring Payments, as opposed to the One-Time Price; so the scope for reducing the Fixed-Costs is huge, when I use such Open Source software. Carrying a software, such as OpenOffice, in your pendrive, allows you to use the software on any other PC simply through your pendrive. I have used it on the occasions, when some laptops weren't having a full-fledged word processor. Especially in the urgent scenarios, it's a blessing. I don't have to worry about keeping the track of my Personal Licences and the other Licences owned by my family members. Believe me, after every system update, I check twice if my OS is still 'activated'. Basically, I am able to do all the Office Productivity activities, using OpenOffice; without needing to worry about any Subscriptions. Whether it's about taking the backups of my Blog Posts, or tracking my expenses in a spreadsheet; I can keep doing it, by downloading OpenOffice a thousand times, on a million PCs, or by running it's portable edition on my Pendrive. Anyone seeking to bring down the Software costs, or increasing the Internal Rate of Return, by minimising the financial obligations, is going to be helped in the similar manner. If I need DOCX or other formats, I simply upload the ODT and open file formats to my Drive, open them in Docs, and download them as DOCX or respective format. They work exactly as you'd expect. And I've noticed no difference or loss of functionality going from Microsoft Office to Open Office. **What do you dislike about OpenOffice?** Presentations: The only problem is that Open Office Presentations are barely usable, and beyond frustrating. It is terrifyingly difficult to click into text boxes, and format things the way you want. Anything that operates as a hyperlink absolutely refuses to let me re-style it beyond font size and font-type. All other edits to that type of text revery to default when the presentation is saved and reopened. Getting into a text box to add and edit content is a nightmare. I have to click around the entire slide for an invisible point where it figures out what I am trying to do. It is often easier for me to write my text out and format it in a Text Document, and then delete text blocks in the slide, replace it, and insert the edited text - simply because it is so difficult to modify existing text blocks. **Recommendations to others considering OpenOffice:** Save money and use Open Office for everything except for Presentations.
