Great software for the changing industry of medicine **Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Sherwin G. | Senior System Application Developer, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) **Reviewed Date:** October 31, 2018 **What do you like best about OpenMed?** The fact that it can be changed in a relatively short period of time. There are always changes in the medical industry from location to location, state to state, country to country. OpenEMR is open source so it can be added to and become unique for each and every practice. **What do you dislike about OpenMed?** It is not the most user-friendly but can be learned in two days with no formal training. It's not as pretty as some of the other software packages out there but it can get the job done. **Recommendations to others considering OpenMed:** They are a great bunch to work with. They don't try to upsell you or talk you into things you don't need to boost their bottom line. They keep us running and make changes to the software quickly when we request a change. **What problems is OpenMed solving and how is that benefiting you?** The business of medicine and being able to document a patient visit and track the patient's progress over time is the first issue that is being solved. Transitioning from paper records to electronic records is a big move for speed and easy accessing patient's medical history. The ability to more efficiently share that information is the goal of all EHR software packages. OpenEMR has a solid foundation that is continuing to grow and offer more connectivity to the world around it and give medical professionals the ability to reach out beyond his/her practice. Practice management is as much a part of medicine as seeing patients. Being able to control cost and maximize billing is a delicate balance of information a practitioner needs to stay in the business of helping people.
