What I like most about OpenBOM is the versatility it adds to SolidWorks. Being able to manage BOMs in a more flexible, cloud-based environment feels like it has a lot of potential, especially for teams working on collaborative projects such as Formula SAE. I also really appreciate that OpenBOM reached out to support our FSAE team; it shows they’re genuinely interested in helping students and engineering programs. The biggest downside I’ve run into so far is getting OpenBOM to work reliably in my setup—specifically when running SolidWorks through Parallels. The integration hasn’t been as straightforward as I expected, and troubleshooting compatibility issues has taken more time than I anticipated. I think clearer documentation and stronger support for non-standard environments, like virtual machines, would make a big difference.
