## About Observium
Observium is a comprehensive network monitoring and management platform designed to provide real-time visibility into network health and performance. It automatically discovers network devices and services, collects performance metrics, and generates alerts when issues arise, enabling administrators to proactively manage their networks. The platform features an intuitive web-based interface that displays live network status, performance metrics, and historical trends, facilitating efficient troubleshooting and capacity planning. Key Features and Functionality: - Automatic Device Discovery: Observium supports a wide range of devices and operating systems, including Cisco, Windows, Linux, HP, Juniper, Dell, FreeBSD, Brocade, Netscaler, and NetApp. It can automatically detect and map network devices, reducing manual configuration efforts. - Comprehensive Monitoring: The platform collects detailed performance data on various network components, such as routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, wireless access points, servers, storage systems, and environmental sensors. This includes metrics like CPU usage, memory utilization, interface traffic, and device health indicators. - Flexible Alerting System: Observium's threshold alerting system allows users to configure alerts for a wide range of entities. Some types support automatic collection of thresholds from the monitored device itself. Alerting entries are automatically created during the discovery process, ensuring the alerting system stays up to date with network configurations. - Integration with Third-Party Applications: Observium supports integration with various third-party tools, including collectd, munin, smokeping, and RANCID. This integration allows users to view metrics and configuration data collected by these tools within the Observium interface, streamlining diagnostics and daily operations. - Traffic Accounting: Available in the Professional Edition, this feature is designed to ease the process of tracking and billing customer bandwidth usage. It independently polls and stores measurements, supporting accounting by both total transferred data and 95th percentile. Primary Value and Problem Solved: Observium enhances network reliability and performance by providing administrators with the tools to proactively monitor and manage their infrastructure. Its automatic discovery and comprehensive monitoring capabilities reduce the time and effort required for network management, allowing for quick identification and resolution of issues. The flexible alerting system ensures that potential problems are addressed before they impact operations. Additionally, integration with third-party applications and support for a wide range of devices make Observium a versatile solution suitable for diverse IT environments.

## Observium Reviews
 ### 1. Effortless Network Monitoring with Powerful Features and Low Maintenance

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sharin S. | Team Lead - Azure and Windows server, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**What do you like best about Observium?**

I started with a free community edition, which was great for testing. Eventually, I upgraded to the professional edition for daily updates and real-time alerting features. I get it at an affordable price, and I feel it's a solid investment. Low maintenance. Once it's up and running, it just works. It's been running smoothly for over a year with minimal intervention. Clean web interface, I can drill down into device performance, historical graph, and spot trends easily. The good thing is that it can handle and monitor any networking device via SNMP, so it is very easy for our monitoring team to handle multiple types of network devices.

**What do you dislike about Observium?**

Reporting isn't good. Alerting setup is a bit complex. I had to dig through the documentation to get the email notification to work properly.

**What problems is Observium solving and how is that benefiting you?**

A few months ago a sudden spike in one of our core network switches. Observium flagged the interface as saturated, and I tracked it back to a misconfigured backup job. Without Observium, I probably wouldn't have caught it until users started complaining.
