It's hard to sum up all that is good about OBS (Open Broadcast Software) - there are other (paid) solutions that might look a little fancier or are a little more streamlined. However, if what you need is a good, workable solution to get broadcasting, OBS is the place to start. And for many of us, it's a fine place to stay - very little reason to "upgrade" to a paid broadcasting solution. What I use OBS most for is integrating with Facebook "go-live" function. Easily enter stream ket and go live in a few clicks. Audio meter right there, middle of the screen to make sure levels are good. I've run on quite a few computers, and it will run on modest equipment. I've even had good luck teaching it to other, non-technical people with a high success rate. It's hard to complain about Open Source (free) software. Yet, if I had to find something, the included font size is a little small, especially in the menus. As eyes are getting older, sometimes I wish they included an option for a larger font size. There are a few places where windows could be a bit more refined (like rounded corners, etc). But the esthetics aren't bad. There is a plug in to control PTZ cameras but it would be nice if it was natively a part of the program (wishes). One of the main parts of my job is to teach my coworkers how to properly utilize various software applications, such as Microsoft Office, Netsuite, etc. The BEST thing about OBS is that is extremely easy to install and set up, which can be the most troublesome part for many I.T. professionals. There has not been anything that I dislike with the software. Since I only use it for recording and not streaming, I am sure there are many more product features that I cannot speak about. I would have to say that the only issue that I had was when I first set it up and that was with me not knowing what I wanted to capture, since the display capture provides so many options for the user. It isn't so much a dislike as it is a... I guess a mistake on my part. I didn't know that the default stream settings were set to where my output would be less than favorable. Personally, I did not feel any drawback of this toll and yes it is free of cost because nowadays there are so many software's which is very costly so according to me only 1 limitation of this software is sometimes it takes too much time for processing rest all are good. First things first - it's free!!! Since it's open-source software - it's free. I was surprised to hear that some other paid softwares are built on top of this open-source version - just adding a skin, adding some UI elements, etc. When it comes to features you get everything you need from a screen & video capture tool. The video capture with slides, webcam & audio is awesome - very easy to use & most used by me. You can record your group video chat. the UI is a bit clunky and some features are buried deep within the application. With a simple interface upgrade and maybe some layout changes this would be unstoppable compared to competitors. Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) is a free video recording and streaming software that allows our church to Livestream our worship service without spending extra money. It seems like the software has been glitchy since the last couple of updates. We also changed cameras simultaneously, so it is taking longer to determine what is causing our issues.
