Fully Integrated CAD/CAM Workflow, but Challenges with Updates and Performance **Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Manufacturing | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) **Reviewed Date:** April 16, 2026 **What do you like best about NX CAM?** I especially like that I can transfer data directly from the design stage and use it in CAM one-to-one without any loss or rework. **What do you dislike about NX CAM?** What I dislike is that we’ve had major issues during updates, especially with MLR not working properly, along with general performance problems in the software. Our partner Janus Engineering is still working on resolving these issues. If you don’t stick closely to the standard setup, updates can sometimes become quite a challenge. **What problems is NX CAM solving and how is that benefiting you?** Before we started using NX CAM in an integrated environment, we struggled with data consistency, especially when working across different systems. Revision control and making sure we were using the correct data were constant challenges, and there was always a risk of someone working with an outdated or incorrect version. Now that NX CAD and NX CAM are connected through Teamcenter, we have a fully integrated and consistent workflow. All data is managed in one place, and revisions are clearly controlled, which helps eliminate errors caused by wrong or outdated data. By contrast, when we work with SolidWorks data, we still have to transfer and prepare it manually in NX CAM. That breaks the workflow and adds extra effort. Overall, the NX ecosystem has significantly improved data consistency, reduced manual work, and increased process reliability across our entire CAD/CAM process. ### 2. No other CAD program has the customizability and power of NX processors, and it shows. While its GUI leaves something to be wanted, the tradeoff is some of the most advanced and useful tools to model complex shapes with intricate geometry. **What do you dislike about NX CAM?** It has little help when using the product. The help function is pretty poor which is not ideal for such a complicated tool.
