I have been using NX for the past 2 years and have tested many of the modules in NX, along with it I have been working with 15+ organizations and faced 100s of technical issues in various modules of NX, and below are some of the best things that I found about it:
1) UI and User friendly:-
the UI of NX does stand for its name as it gives a complete feel of using updated and competent software and the user-friendliness is also recommendable as it allows lots of options for users to customize the software as per their need by allowing customize tabs, Shortcuts modifications and saving user preference roles.
2) Easy Customization:-
NX is one of the CAD software that can be easily customized in terms of programming that supports the inputs of almost all file formats like *.vb, *.jar, *.cs, *.py, *.dll and the list goes on. Also, it has inbuild options such as PTS, UDF, and Algorithmic modeling which enables the user to define their own set of commands.
3) Broad Nature:-
Siemens NX has lots of modules across a variety of domains such as Electrical and Mechanical Routing Piping, Reverse Engineering, Mold Wizard, Design Simulation and the list is sizeable which caters to almost every need of an organization so that you do not have to look for any other software in the market all you have to do is enable the license and start using it with the same friendly UI.
4) Constant Improvisations:
Siemens puts lots of effort into the R&D of the software and constantly keeps on updating the software based on customer feedback and IRs and ERs which can be raised by the service partner in order to get quick support from Siemens and if not immediately the problem can be resolved in upcoming releases. As we all know everything has some downsides and here are a few as concerned with NX:-
1) Library updation:
The library updation for various modules can be really tricky and difficult at times which might hinder the usability of the particular module.
2) Working within Assembly file:
Sometimes it is difficult to work in assembly files while modifying the components and referencing some of their features.
3) Pricing:
The pricing of the modules of NX can be tricky and at times unfair but this can be avoided using token-based licensing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

NX CAD has completely changed my design experience. I like how its interface is so intuitive to get around complicated projects. Seamless data management is essential for collaboration, so the integration with software such as Teamcenter is achieved. Its advanced features of simulation and parametric modeling save you tons of time and allows us to validate the designs before moving to the production. The outcome of this has been much more accurate and much more efficient for our project. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The only thing I wish was different with NX CAD is that it has a pretty long learning curve especially for greenhorn engineers. It can initially be quite an avalanche of information to process hence making the onboarding of new team members a difficult task. Further, the software may consume a lot of space on the pc and hence slow computers hinder productivity. I have also learnt to deal with odd bugs that require fixing and this is especially worse when the time is tight. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The main advantage that I found in NX CAD is the modeling advanced tools that support me to produce close to reality and intricate shapes with the right level of detail. This one does not shrink even when dealing with large assemblies, a feature that is very desirable on complicated tasks. Furthermore, it is fully compatible with our PLM system so there are no problems for example with redesigning to manufacturing, all the teams work on the same page. However, NX CAD has its drawbacks - the program is not quite friendly for new employees, which means that the process of their training may take a lot of time. This can further drop the potential for coming up with strategies for improvisation that help the team to speed up on projects. Additionally, the resource requirement stands high and when used in a system, conflicts with available hardware and therefore there are cases of hanging a bit often. 1) NX's synchronous technology allows users to work with both parametric and direct modeling techniques. This flexibility enables quick design iterations and easy modification of imported geometry from other CAD systems, enhancing productivity and collaboration.
2) NX supports extensive automation features such as customizable templates, feature-based modeling, and automated toolpath generation. These capabilities help streamline repetitive tasks and reduce manual intervention, leading to faster and more efficient workflows.
3) Siemens NX provides a fully integrated suite encompassing CAD, CAE, and CAM capabilities within a single platform. This integration allows seamless transition between design, analysis, and manufacturing processes, reducing the need for multiple software packages and ensuring data consistency.
4) NX integrates seamlessly with Siemens’ Teamcenter PLM software, facilitating robust data management, collaboration, and lifecycle management. This integration enhances traceability, reduces errors, and improves overall project coordination. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
1) It take time for NX to convert files from neutral file format.
2) Strong PLM integration with Teamcenter, but less seamless with Dassault products.
3) NX have lots of commands to exicute an same operation in different way so in some cases it is confusing.
4) Strong, but slightly less advanced than CATIA in surfacing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
NX CAD is the powerful and comprehensive software solution used for product design, engineering, and manufacturing.ease of use is enhanced by its customizable interface, extensive support resources, and automation features.Implementing NX CAD effectively involves several considerations to ensure a smooth transition and integration into your existing workflows. An active user community and online forums provide additional support and knowledge sharing, helping users troubleshoot issues and learn from others’ experiences. The exact frequency of use will depend on how integral the software is to the company’s operations, the roles of the users, and the nature of the projects being worked on. NX CAD needs to integrate with, such as PLM (Product Lifecycle Management), ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing), and other engineering or design tools. Cloud storage space is depending on the number of licenses. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
At first I had done my CAD software training through many software in market but my experience with NX was awesome. It's been more than 6 years I'm using NX software to design plastic, sheet metal and casting parts and I found NX very user friendly than other software. The most amazing future is you can use the same sketch in many ways no need to draw different one each time. Also I have used different versions from NX 8 to NX 12 they have improved a lot especially in sketch constraints and other domain like sheet metal surfacing. NX is easiest CAD software to learn. My dislike about NX is in latest version they have made the interface more complicated. My thought on this is bringing back the old Nx 12 sketch constraints method in the latest one. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
NX often referred as UG by old users, gives best flexibility in designing a part which does not requires a tree as seen in CATIA. Or may be interpreted as for quick concepts it is one of the best CAD software available in market.
The implementaion of 11th hr changes is possible and suitable with synchronous modeling.
nonetheless we are very well aware that, in Automotive industry the product lifecycle management tool (Teamcenter) is of SIEMENS which is parent company for NX as well. This integration gives seamless data modification from JT environment to part environment.
We have observed that CATIA may sometime face dificulty while filleting at value R0.5 which can be easily done in NX.
A very active customer support solution is made available by siemens and may not be required to connect frequently. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
As in automotive industry, we are more aligned towards surface designing which is more flexible in CATIA compared to NX.
The part with parametric history tree is more important to let user modify without affecting later operations done on part which is a little difficult in NX.
The UI/UX may require some improvements.
Due to above limitations I do not use NX frequenlty. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Its has a friendly and simple ribbon based interface. I have used it for many years and it is very easy to design the 3d models of components, subassemblies and assemblies of a product with NX CAD. It also makes 2d drafting very simple, just place views and give dimensions in drawing templates. Product image rendering is also very good in NX CAD. It is very easy to implement and integrate with any PLM software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I have used it for my regular work, even my entire design team was using this software. I have found working with it very convenient and that's why donot have any dislikes in it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
From an industrial point of view, the software is excellent as it gives industrial people better ease of integration with various accessibility like surface modeling, and trim features for a plane for the automotive industry, and as far I know most of the industrial applications prefer NX CAD over any of the current software to name a few includes Solidworks, PTC Creo. The most disliked thing about NX CAD is its not that user-friendly when we talk in the context of new users (educational purposes) as compared to the other software and getting the educational license is another problem that is quite easily available for Autodesk products the reason being in India most of the Autodesk products are preferred. One more thing that can be considered is the customer care support that is lagging in the case of the complete Siemens group which is quite better in the case of Dassault Systems.
